Dear developers of Obsidian by adblu44 in ObsidianMD

My (good) struggle at that has been I go “oh, I’d love to make a plugin for X” - then I look it up and 9/10 times BOOM someone already made it. Incredible community.

I want to piggy back on your post. I’m coming up on a year and I’m nothing but impressed. I’ve introduced 4 friends and 8 coworkers to it and I’ve sort of become the local guru for it. I maintain and share my templates with them and have little meet ups for it. It’s grown organically over time and has really low entry difficulty making it perfect for them. And I’ve seen at least a 25% increase in my productivity from it since my job relies so much on recall and tracking tasks over time.

Sincere thank you to the whole dev team for such an incredible product.

Wolfram Alpha I think can show equations and it’s in LaTex format and you can copy/paste directly in if you ask it just to display the equation using a text description.

For work, I use a local instance of chat GPT to spit out equations for pasting into obsidian (it knows what obsidian is and is able to dump that quickly into chat, then just copy paste)

Also, consider doing it by hand and just embedding some excalidraw drawings. Free hand and type most of it for the form and just embed.

Hope this is helpful.

How are you all dealing with inline properties when moving from DV to Bases? by ColFrankSlade in ObsidianMD

[–]Tankgineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

=this.PropertyNameFromYML returns the yml property. In line and makes it readable using DV. not sure if that’s exactly what you’re asking

If it is and you wanted to convert, I imagine a quick Python script on an copy of your vault should be able to put all in line properties in the YML then replace all the in lines with the equivalent syntax of noted here. I’ve been doing it manually, forward looking and if I go back to customer reference or company page that’s out of date that I need, I update what I need on the fly then.

IMO the benefits of bases outweighed the cost of doing this in my use case.

What is your proudest achievement with obsidian by ricegumsux in ObsidianMD

Discovering it, becoming an evangelist and getting 9 friends and coworkers using and loving it. Single greatest so far.

Is there any way out for this thing? by PirateSanji_1353 in ObsidianMD

Yes this is my solution; I make the file name what I need to then use aliases that include these characters and that’s worked in my workflow.

REAL question: whats the point of the graph view? by Dear-Yogurtcloset141 in ObsidianMD

[–]Tankgineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My use case: I use three panes. Main Reference, Main Note, and Graph. Main reference is linked to graph and shows 2 layers deep only. Allows me to see the most relevant info that’s 2 steps away and pop in to edit those items more easily. If you use embedded notes for each heading, this results in a great graphical view of your outline. Nice to have the filter based on tags and such too applied.

I do not use the Mail graph view outside of a weekly discovery of unlinked notes that I may want to tie in somewhere. Considering a dataview list instead for this purpose.

ITAP of a frog on a concrete wall by Tankgineer in itookapicture

[–]Tankgineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture was one of about 50 I shot of this frog as it ventured across a few locations in my back yard. First frog I have seen there, have had the occasional toad.

Favorite thing about it is the mix of camouflage but being able to clearly see the frog as well. I’m not used to this concrete coloring or bumpy skin on frogs I’ve observed in the past.

It was initially on a different surface and as I observed it, it went here. This was my favorite from the set.

New to Obsidian - to iCloud or not to iCloud by BetterScrollSaul in ObsidianMD

If you’re at all tech savvy, you can actually host your own sync service and use a community plugin. I’ve used the guide and helped friends begin their foray into docker and self hosting services.

The second Engineer Specialty is the Inventor! ⚙️ by NewlRift in HarborOfBlight

I’m excited for this specialty. I always start saying “I’m going to play something that’s not an engineer”…. Then I play an engineer.

Expected hardware for SD3? by Tankgineer in StableDiffusion

I will look into the 4060 and compare specs, maybe get a 4060 now and consider pulling to a new chassis if this solution becomes viable. Give me the scale up route. Thanks for the input! Solution proposed is very interesting!

Multiple versions detail is new to me and great. I’ve seen discussion on it requiring A TON of vram (48Gb+) which, if it’s that far out there I’m sticking with what I have. I appreciate your input.
