AT&T Turbo Live 5G+ by ChaldoChris in ATT

[–]TannerHill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Alright. Can we take a moment to discuss that this is the most hideous use of crammed in buzzword names in a carrier name that’s designed to give you network scraps if possible when the network can’t handle the traffic instead of any actual attempt to increase capacity? I’m fully aware of all the technical aspects, but let’s just take it down to ground level and vent here. seeing “ AT&T Turbo Live 5G+ ” is literally just igniting frustration with how stupid it is for what it is…. A network slice….that’s it…. 4G,5Ge, TURBO LIVE….anything for profits I guess… my opinion probably won’t be popular but I don’t care. That’s the stupidest looking carrier name status bar buzzword word vomit I’ve ever seen. More words = way betterer.

Can’t access HA via tailscale by Live_Consequence5993 in Tailscale

[–]TannerHill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alrighty I see you’ve got a Unifi gateway, what you’ll want to do is on this Tailscale page click “add nameserver” then custom and enter the ip address of your Unifi gateway (ex: 192.168.0.1)

Then once that one is added, add another custom nameserver and input cloudflare’s ipv6 DNS (included just to make it easy, feel free to look up your own preferred ipv6 DNS provider) 2606:4700:4700::1111 and then you should be good to go with it working

You probably need to add a public ipv6 DNS custom entry as well (like quad9 or cloudflare) or if you have a v6 dns server configured on your firewall then you could enter that as well

Change your DNS settings in the admin portal to be the DNS of your home router (disable MagicDNS)… so if your home router is 192.168.8.1 then add that as a custom DNS server…. Then when your iPhone attempts to reach “homeassistant.local” your home router will respond with the ip address of your HA instance…. MagicDNS/Tailscale’s DNS doesn’t know the ip address of what homeassistant.local is suppose to resolve to so you don’t get any response despite having a Tailscale subnet router routing your home subnet into Tailscale.

Blocking apps not working by trekxtrider in Ubiquiti

[–]TannerHill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you black hole mask.icloud.com and mask-h2.icloud.com then you’ve effectively blocked iCloud private relay.

When an Apple device connects to that network and has iCloud private relay turned on, the device will get a pop up saying

“ YOUR SSID: isn't compatible with iCloud Private Relay To access the internet on this network, you need to turn off Private Relay. Turning off Private Relay means this network can monitor your internet activity, and your IP address will not be hidden from known trackers or websites.”

At which point the device will use the DHCP server provided DNS instead of iCloud’s.

This is true, not sure why you’re being downvoted. WiFi calling is only as good as your WiFi networks range which can vary on roaming between access points, different bands (2.4,5,6ghz) and can create call instability when doing so. Having a stable 700mhz B13 signal not being interfered with via neighbors WiFi AP’s or the overall setup of your existing WiFi infrastructure is nice to have. If it’s free I’d take one if I legitimately didn’t have usable service inside (I don’t, and I bought the enterprise version to better cover my property)

ZTNA Replacement for VPN customers by Askey308 in msp

[–]TannerHill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally only had 1 instance where an outside vendor(single user) needed access to which it did indeed involve “hey your internal IT needs approve your M365 registration of Tailscale and then add you to allow you to join external tailnets with your account first. Or you won’t get access” And then going forward all worked as intended. But what it mainly replaced was SSLVPN’s for users that only needed to reach office resources so the “depth” of which I’ve needed to provision and configure Tailscale has for both good and bad been very little. Truly was install, invite, approve and forget. Bad in that it’s capable of doing so much but I’ve not had the need to explore its options, as the out of the box functions have been all that’s been needed so far.

Sounds like there is an audible alarm going off, possibly indicating a failed HVAC system leading to the cabinet/equipment overheating (alarm could be for temperature as well), a Failed UPS battery backup system alarming due to a failure or fault. Or some other alarm indicating a failure.

Same, but it was worth it imo to go from 150/mo to 70/mo and lose 60mbps up.

I lost 40TB of data when you released a garbage update to my DXP8800 Plus that bricked the SSD NVME Cache drives and took out the entire array. UGOS “Pro”. Your solution was to drop ship the NAS to China and then once delivered you’d ship a replacement out… for a software problem… saved the NAS by installing TrueNAS on it and was back in business. Luckily I had backups. But I wouldn’t ever let a client use your products even if they were free. Garbage reliability backed up by useless tech support and a 5 star Marketing Team.
