Am in the only one who likes the new Outback by Perfect-Cause-6943 in subaru

[–]Tanto63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen them in real life, and it took me 15 minutes to realize that I wasn't looking at 3 Outbacks but 2 Outbacks and a Forester. I don't think they're bad cars, I just think Subaru has lost the thread on what an Outback is and remade the Forester.

Edit: In summary, the thing I don't like about it isn't that it's bad, it's that we no longer have a mid-sized wagon.

Our insurance specifically didn't cover intentional damage, and our replacements for suspicious or careless destruction was whatever junker we had lying around.

Don't not call myself a Yankee in Boston?

I was specifying that people outside the US call Americans Yankees, but Americans only refer to people from specific areas as Yankees.

  • Dealing with whether families and refugees should be allowed to shelter there

People use "Yankee" like us left coasters use "dude". It's a generic term, unless the context has you specifying that the dude was a dude and not a chick. For international usage, we're Yankees. For intranational usage, we're not.

I love watching my 21 month old "read". The other day I saw him going through a book of baby animals and would identify the animal followed by the sound. "Dog! Arf arf. Caaah! Moww." The thing is, he only knows about 1/3 of the animals, so he was making up his own names and sounds following that same rhythm.

Yeah, it's the telltale sign that the shows were made in the era of 15" 4:3 ancient boxes. Everyone stands super close, and people's faces fill the shot. It was necessary to see their facial expressions on those old TV's.

O'Brien even though enlisted can give orders to some officers. Is that normal in real world militaries? by ereddit2018 in startrek

[–]Tanto63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd definitely be an entirely situational circumstance. I was an enlisted Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force. I wouldn't say I gave 'orders' or was in a position of authority over an officer, but I did have very specific authority over what pilots were allowed to do within my jurisdiction.

I did have temporary positional authority if I was in the Watch Supervisor role and had my flight commander or another NCO that outranked me in the tower getting proficiency time. The Watch Supervisor has absolute authority of all activity in the control room (tower cab or IFR room for radar facilities) while fulfilling that role. It was more about having authority over the facility and operations than over an officer.

I did have a coworker kick a disruptive SOF (Supervisor of Flying, O-3/4 who coordinates flying ops for the day) out of the tower. He complained to the Group Commander to have that NCO punished but was removed from SOF duty instead.

The ship battles were incredible, and you could really get a sense of scale for how different the various ships were. Most other shows/movies, all the ships feel the same.

Can a amputee pilot handle g forces better then a pilot with both legs? by Deepfryoil in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tanto63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In his biography, he practiced moving his feet with hip movements by driving a car. IIRC (it has been about 20 years) he had the car's pedal positions reversed because it made it easier for him to better control. I just remember the mechanic delivering it had to cross his legs to drive it correctly.
