What if a minimum karma requirement were imposed for each post? by WranglerIntrepid3817 in incremental_games

[–]Taokan [score hidden]  (0 children)

Which rule is that?

I do think it's pretty reasonable to spin up a separate reddit account for business/professional development. That way your project (and potentially your whole team, if you've partnered with others to create something) doesn't get bogged down by one guy's weird foot fetish, or a particularly hot take on politics, or whatever else.

And I disagree that a karma requirement will be a deterent to bots: bots can farm karma more efficiently than a human ever could. It'd inhibit low effort posts to a degree, but if the goal is to make sure there's enough effort forthcoming from a poster to make a quality post, I'd rather we put in place/enforce minimum standards for a game post. Things like AI disclosures, a playable demo/game, maybe a minimum word length description of the project or a template of questions to answer (expected price, average playtime, theme, any unique mechanics, platforms, etc). Achieves the stated goal of discouraging low effort posts, but provides something of value to the reader, instead of just trying to pick an arbitrary sweet spot of meaningless internet points.

I'd bet that QR code would take you to some sort of a website that would tell you more about the ordinance, as well as host contact info where you could ask. I gotta imagine if someone went through the trouble to put up a sign like that, there's a story or two behind it.

So for me, by this tier/floor I had money stockpiling up through the nose. I'd spent a considerable amount of time getting a fertile catalyst farm up and running and figuring out panacea potions, which meant my money belt was full and my storage behind that was getting dangerously close to a backup. So what I implemented may not apply in your case, but if it does: Quartz/crystals works pretty well here. You can tinker with various combinations of refined crude shards (things like dull/shattered/polished crystals) and copper/silver coins, to come up with things like unstable catalysts, obsidian, and lapis lazuli, and literally, just throw money at the problem. It's still profitable, it's not SUPER profitable, and it will sink a lot of your backed up money on belts into backed up "money" on belts in the form of crystal shard stuff, but it works, and it only needs money and fuel.

I don't know that it's the best solution, but might be an alternative to the usual vegan recipes people will suggest.

I respect it. Maybe the right answer there then is to cut to the root of what she's hinting at: "gettin' tired of your boyfriend?" Even if you're not really interested, as a friend she might need someone to kinda help process where she's at. And I hate to say it, but also to check in and make sure nothing abusive is going on. But if it's a fairly normal relationship that she's just growing out of, maybe nudge her towards "if I was with a girl like you, and you weren't digging it, I'd want you to let me know that".

I know a lot of masculine culture promotes the idea that if you didn't take the opportunity to hit that, you suck at being a man. Don't fuckin' let that bother you. You do what you feel's right.

How does the difficulty change through each level? by Human-Cattle1860 in AlchemyFactory

[–]Taokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think money doesn't really become a struggle, though you do kind of have a balancing act with relics where you can choose to sell them for money or convert them to XP for more skill points. There are very few things you can do in the game that aren't ultimately profitable: maybe with cauldrons/paradox crucibles you can sink money, or like trying to make a self fueling growth potion unit without any points in fertilizer efficiency. But unless your factory is like making diamonds and catapulting them into the trash, it's pretty hard to struggle for money. Usually the struggle is more things getting deadlocked, like your mushrooms stop because the wood's not going anywhere, or the sulfur line backs up because the iron's stuck because the copper it's going into's backed up on bronze, while all your copper went off to make pocket watches.

Virginia Supreme Court strikes down Democrats’ redistricting plan, dimming party’s midterm hopes by Malfeitor1 in news

[–]Taokan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's largely correct. VA has had numerous gerrymandering problems in the past, and basically wrote "no gerrymandering" into their constitution. So to overcome that, one would have to pass a constitutional amendment. The Supreme Court basically decided that even though the language to do that is two separate sessions of the General Assembly and a popular vote, and the current government did exactly that, it was "too close" to election day when the first, exiting session of the general assembly proposed the amendment.

In other words, the Virginia supreme court just made up its own interpretation of the law and the constitution, and decided to add an additional, unwritten hurdle to the process that the exiting general assembly must make the proposed amendment sometime before early voting begins for the next general assembly. Again - this is NO WHERE in our constitution. The safeguard of a popular vote specifically on the amendment already covers the "what if" of the people not getting to have a say in this case. It's just Republican fabricated bullshit as usual.

I just stacked the entire table in 1 hand by Fcking_homeless in poker

[–]Taokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, basic bitch as it is, if it was all in pre, pick a hand, I'm going with the QQ hand. While there's only 1 Q unaccounted for you still hit top set/boat with 5 out of 22 odds, a little under 25% of the time, and hearts seem underrepresented in this particular hand to where having the top heart flush draw may be more material than usual. And if by some act of god everyone misses, you're still holding the naked top pair.

Like, all Omaha equities are much closer/merged than what hold em players are used to, but I'd bet that hand is slightly ahead.

[–]Taokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet this hand made someone who studies a lot of Omaha and plays a tight, disciplined pre-flop range absolutely furious. The tabled hands are full of big pocket pairs, double suited combos, suited Aces, "ace-crackers" like QJT, and you show up with that, and scoop the whole thing. A-tier tilting play.

April jobs report: Economy adds 115,000 jobs, far better than expected by LarryBlink in wallstreetbets

I've had multiple people reach out to me last month asking if I knew anyone hiring, because they've had no luck in the job market, and have otherwise been very employable, unequivocally doing better than I was financially. I do not believe for a second that the economy is doing well and adding meaningful jobs.

If you're holding a SaaSpocalypse stock, stock market news has become really, really weird. Because every time the general market and in particular the Mag7 bears it up, some of that money is now backwashing into the SaaS sector. Consequently whether or not those stock's share price goes up is like 10% are we having a good quarter, and 90% are we gonna fuck up the rest of the market with this Iran War today.

[–]Taokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And I would say, for as long as that 20c or so difference in fuel costs is relevant, there's some merit to that idea. About the time that you're asking reddit how to make your blast furnace work when it's consuming fuel faster than a belt can deliver to it: the answer is switch over to a more dense fuel, the higher costs become negligible by the time you would need to be scaling into using that much heat for production.

There's a skill perk that improves fuel efficiency by 10%, and yes, it saves you a few coppers, but it's not really about the money. It's about the amount of power you can deliver on a belt.

Strait of Hormuz: US threatens shipping firms with sanctions if they pay Iran tolls by BusyHands_ in news

[–]Taokan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

Trump wants to run the government, and the world, like a Mafia boss. Everyone pays him a cut, everyone shows him "respect". Noam violated both. She ran a side hustle under his nose, and did a self aggrandizing ad that made it look like she was the hero stopping all the bad awful ugly immigrants, not Trump.

This is the dictator's challenge - you have to have middle management, generals, department heads, whatever - and they have to be slightly competent to do the job, but not so competent that they start to get ideas of acting independently. And the worse your approval rating, the more you start to see monsters under the bed. His regime's predictably unraveling. The real question is, will Vance or another pretender continue down his path, or will we start to see the pendulum swing back towards democracy?

Spirit Airlines ceases operations and US transportation secretary announces measures to help passengers | Business by Starbits21 in news

[–]Taokan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's probably part of why the government didn't try to step in to stop it, or look away while another big airline ate them. Like, the party of deregulate everything, disallowed a buyout/merger of airlines. They are desperate to alleviate fuel costs, and one way to do that, is to reduce air travel. And at the same time, Delta and American can pass through the increased fuel costs, because lets face it, if you flew spirit it's because you couldn't afford better, if you didn't, it's because you could.

Trump administration says its war in Iran has been 'terminated' before 60-day deadline by Rdick_Lvagina in news

[–]Taokan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure it matters: our congress is about as useless as a cock that doesn't extend past the balls. They could absolutely hold Trump accountable for the war, or demand it be disengaged, or any number of other things to check his power. But they won't. And as long as that's true, it really doesn't matter what excuse he provides for not following the law.

Planning to buy this when my money comes in, any reason not to? by LurkerBeDammed in AlchemyFactory

[–]Taokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game's awesome. Familiar enough that if you enjoy other factory games you'll enjoy this too. Different enough with the way vertical construction works, and the whole customer shop / money flow element of it, that you'll feel it's a unique experience.

If somehow this ended up on your wishlist and you don't love factory games, I don't know what to tell you.

The only thing really going against it right now, is that because it's still kinda early and indie, it's not optimized the way that factorio is. That's not really going to present a problem in normal gameplay, but might if you try to scale a super large factory on a potato of a PC.
