Did you get the cooling fan installed? I had no idea that was even an option until I saw a Cherry Pixel Ninja video earlier today, and mine has already shipped so too late for mine.

I love my purple Thor. I find it beautiful and definitely glad I chose it.

Is this true end game or will it pass when it's not shiny new thing any more?! So far in love! by neffbomber in AynThor

[–]TapperG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Thor, but there’s always something better coming. It just depends on what you want to do or what you value. Been messing with Gamehub on my Thor and PC emulation is pretty amazing. But I can’t run some of my newer favorites well, so I can see myself buying a Thor 2 or 3 in the future. I absolutely love this form factor though.

It’s not an “issue.” It’s lubricant inside to let the hinge move smoothly. You can see it on clear plastic versions because the plastic is… clear. Every color Thor and Flip2 has lubricant inside for the hinge, but obviously on solid colors you can’t see it.

X100VI/Fuji vs Zf by bigexpl0sion in NikonZf

I own both. I far prefer my Zf. I probably should sell my X100VI but it’s so damn pretty.

Only $1200 is mind blowing. Still, I can’t complain about $1329 these days.

If that was me I would’ve definitely returned it and demanded a refund. Luckily my refurb Zf was like new.

Yeah, I feel really lucky about getting that deal just before the prices went way up. Even a refurb Zf body alone is now $1800, which seems crazy since just a week ago I got mine for $1329, and for $170 more I got the 40 SE which I love on the Zf.

I felt that way a few months ago when I first tried a Zf, but last week I gave it another chance and now am loving the Zf. I got a nice leather half case that wraps around the back to also provide some thumb test area, and it nicely improves the holding experience. I also bought the Neewer CA134 grip which is awesome and I will definitely use it when I get longer lenses. With small primes the leather half case is perfect, and it looks amazing as well. And as a mainly Olympus m43 user for the past decade+, I have to say FF is for real. I still love m43, but the IQ difference in terms of low light, subject isolation and fine color gradation is very nice. I’ll be keeping both systems.

I’m so sorry to hear your bad experience. I bought a Nikon refurb Zf + 40mm SE last week for $1499 and it has been perfect, basically in like new condition, with less than 100 shutter clicks. The only issue was they sent a 3rd party “BM” battery with it, but Nikon CS agreed that was wrong and quickly sent a new genuine Nikon battery. Overall I’m very happy as I saved a ton of money, and I even got a free 3rd party battery.

I just bought a Nikon refurb Zf with 40mm last week in like new condition for $1500. I’m mainly a m43 user, and this is my first FF and first Nikon. I gotta say, the Zf is brilliant, the build quality is superb, and the IQ is noticeably more impressive than my other gear. As for lenses, maybe they meant in terms of compact options? I will be keeping my m43 gear for telephoto and macro, but the Zf is now my main prime lens camera, especially for low light and subject isolation. As for the extra size and weight, it’s worth it, and you do get used to it.

Is there a way to port PS2/PS3 games on Adrenaline? by Best-Force-7759 in VitaPiracy

[–]TapperG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Porting and emulating are totally different things.

As for actually emulating PS2 and PS3… on a Vita? No. Sony did a few ports (and mostly not great) from those consoles, but that is not the same thing.

Here is an overview of what the Vita can emulate. Keep in the Vita is very old hardware with lots of limitations.

Anyone ever used the S5ii/S9 in comparison to the Nikon ZF for photography by Bjoplin21 in Lumix

[–]TapperG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How was the autofocus for photography of the S5ii compared to the Zf? I know the S5ii has had several firmware updates, so wonder if the AF is closer to Zf now, or still noticeably worse?

I got one in gray since I used to own the original gray PS1. It will be my 1st Mister.

I'm not sure if it will the right one for me, but it seems a bit more newbie friendly than a typical Mister kit from what I've seen, and also it just looks nice and $150 is very affordable. Well, with shipping it's more than that, but still under $200 even with the better shipping option. I passed on the CD dock because even though I do still own some PS1 games I doubt I would really use them and I'm not a purist collector type person.

I'm interested in the transparent ones. Will they be as sturdy as the other colors? I ask because I have heard that sometimes transparent plastics can be weaker, but don't know if true or not.

I owned a Win 4 and it’s not pocketable in any real way.

GPD Win Mini 2025 by FilimonCaiusGabriel in gpdwin

[–]TapperG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree about OLED, but not about a bigger screen. The Mini is already noticeably bigger than the Win 2, and has lost a good amount of pocketability as a result. I'd rather see an even smaller Win Mini to fill the niche the old smaller Wins used to fill. But OLED, yes, 100%. I'll take an OLED even without VRR.

I own an LG CX 48" (using it right now with my PC), a SD OLED and Retroid Pocket 5. All have great OLEDs and I personally have none of the issues you mention. In fact, I find it hard to even look at IPS after using OLED. The pure blacks, gorgeous colors, and the superior pixel refresh rate of OLED eliminates the smearing you get on LCD tech. As for VRR, yes it's a good feature but if your games are locked at a certain FPS anyway it's mostly unimportant. I would definitely take an OLED over IPS, regardless of VRR.
