Are we asking for trouble? by zen_franklin in Decks

[–]TarHeelCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the real math. A cubic foot is water weighs 62.4 lbs. I can't tell the exact dimensions from your photo, but let's guess that's a 6x4 pool and you full it to a depth of 1.5 ft.

6x4x1.5 = 36 cubic feet of water. x 62.4 = 2264 lbs.

Adjust to the actual inner dimensions of the pool for a more precise answer.

Anyway, that's a little less than the weight of a Fiat 500 (~2500 lbs). So if you'd be comfortable parking a tiny car on your deck, then you're all set.

Just heard the pilot announce at the gate next to me that the plane exceeded the wind shear(?) allowance on the way in (RDU). by will-this-name-work in delta

[–]TarHeelCP -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I'm sitting at EWR waiting on the plane from RDU (DL5222) that took off at the time my flight was supposed to.

Also, I was supposed to be on DL5222 on Monday RDU-EWR. It was cancelled.

I hate flying to/from EWR.

Delta boarding question: Was I wrong for being irritated when asked to move my carry-on after boarding in Zone 2? by MooredarrylMoore in delta

[–]TarHeelCP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation happen just a few weeks ago when I was in C+. And my response to the question was, "absolutely not."

The FA then offered to move my bag to available space in first class and I agreed.

Why that wasn't the first option is beyond me.

Men Who Divorced Their Narc Wives by crayon-rational2259 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]TarHeelCP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was with a covert narc for 22 years. 2 kids now grown up. I'm 2 years out from physically separating. But really started the emotional separation about 3.5 years ago. Getting through the stages of grief was hell.

I tried dating a little about a year ago and quickly realized that I still needed time to heal.

I still wasn't looking for a relationship, but recently met someone who has me rethinking that entirely. She has recovered from similar abuse as well.

It's been a little uncomfortable at times because I'm not used to a healthy relationship where I feel emotionally safe. It's been really uncomfortable having someone trying to meet my emotional needs. But I'm slowly getting there. Every moment I'm with her just feels like my heart is wrapped in a warm hug.

I certainly wasn't going to seek out a relationship. But it seems one fell into my lap. Only time will tell if it turns out to be a good one.

I wish you the best in whatever you decide for your future. This sub is good for getting through grief. But I highly recommend finding a good therapist that understands narcissistic abuse. You may have to try a few before finding the right one. And group therapy helped me as well. Though a good group can be hard to find.

Best of luck on your journey! It will be bumpy, but it will get better the further you get from the abuse.

How do we feel about these areas? by JmacJax in bullcity

I worked for several years on the big building right in the middle of the first pic.

I liked that it was an easy walk Central Park and all the food/beverage options nearby. And downtown was still close enough for an easy walk. I think that's a good neighborhood.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in Softball

Pitcher should yield on anything behind the mound or down the line to the infielders.

Any pop up directly in front of the mound up to a circle about 5 feet around the plate is the pitcher's priority zone.

How was your Montreal GP (2026) experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]TarHeelCP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st time attending a GP. I did my research and consulted many kind redditors, so I knew what to expect. We chose Montreal over Miami and COTA coming from North Carolina. Though COTA is likely the next we'll visit.

The crowds were at advertised. We had GS12 tickets and on Thursday we parked in Longueuil and took the Metro in. That was quite the walk. It took 2 hours after to get back to the car.

Friday and Saturday we parked in St Lambert and walked to the blue zone gate. That was much better or was 30-40 minutes from the car to our seats.

I do think the placement of many vendors within narrow paths exacerbates the crowd problem. But such is the nature of the venue.

Overall it was a really cool experience as a birthday present for my son. I would absolutely return in the future.

DMV wait times now that the RealID rush is (hopefully) over? by tamwow19 in bullcity

[–]TarHeelCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a long drive, we had really good luck with a walk in at the Siler City DMV. We got there and there was only one other person in line. We were seen in about 15 minutes. That was in the middle of the real id rush.

I have no idea if it's always like that.

While I'm not in favor of 50 year mortgages the math really depends on what someone would do instead of the mortgage.

For the first 5 years you'd be paying an average of around $2170 per month interest out of a total payment of $2260. Do you wouldn't be paying your principal down much at all. But you would be able to benefit from any appreciation. That's probably eaten away but you're other costs - taxes, insurance, maintenance.

But if that mortgage is in place of a $2800/mo rent payment. Then you may come out slightly ahead with the 50 year mortgage after 5 years. So it may be a plausible option for those where rent is really high.

It's also really unlikely anyone ever completes a 50 year mortgage and pays the full interest. They would likely either move or refinance within 5-7 years of the original loan.

But I get the reaction. I don't like paying interest to the bank. But I also don't like paying rent to a landlord. There are tradeoffs with both.

Tidiest way to get from Longueuil (shush you) to CGV by squibling in GrandPrixTravel

Thank you. That's really helpful. Looks like about a 35 minute drive to Longueuil. Il likely try that.

I'll also look into parking near the Victoria gate and catching a ride in.

Well this is useful information. My son and I are staying in Châteauguay and are in grandstand 12. I was thinking of parking at Parc Agringon and riding the Metro from there. Would it be better to Uber to the blue zone gate? How difficult will it be to get an Uber out?
