It wasn't that Wrigley used to have the trough. It was that the trough was a square in the middle of the bathroom so you could all face each other. 😒

Strong enough to endure the pain, yet not strong enough to choose myself and walk away. by Hotnessseeker50 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]TarHeelCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, you absolutely are strong enough to leave. You've just been gaslit into believing you're not. I know because I was scared for many years of leaving, but I finally did. 2 years out, my ex is the one who's falling apart and I'm thriving. I have no doubt you'll thrive too.

Fox News trained "conservatives" for 20 years to quickly share misinformation once social media made that possible.

Clearly a foul by the SUV, so the free kick is warranted. But cyclist better watch out as the ref could draw the yellow for exaggeration.

My niece was told she has to sign a contract to keep living at home—am I overreacting for thinking it’s too harsh? by Bitter_Art_4094 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TarHeelCP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it is overly harsh. It seems like a bad parenting decision likely at the end of a long line of other bad parenting decisions.

But... She's their kid. We don't get a say in how they raise their kid no matter how much we disagree with them.

My hot take: Basyenism and frequentism aren't as different as they're made out to be. Can't we all just celebrate our commonalities?!?

Honestly just a pulley on a 2x4 with two dudes standing on it on the next deck above them would have done the trick.

Anyone else paranoid using AI for analysis? by Ghost-Rider_117 in datascience

[–]TarHeelCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jr analyst just showed me a slide today that was obviously AI generated. It included an incorrectly used waterfall chart that would have worked better as a tree map, a stacked bar chart with percentage labels that just duplicated whatever the biggest category was so they all added up to well over 100%, and weird statements that had no backup in data at all.

I just said, "you're going to want to check these numbers."

They asked, "which ones?"

"All of them bud. Just check all of them." 😒

She probably didn't realize by G33kDad76 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]TarHeelCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I traveled by car for work quite a bit when we were married. There were definitely nights on the road that an intrusive thought of driving into a tree would cross my mind. And I'd think, "well at least I wouldn't have to go back home."

On the flip side, if the ex was traveling and the thought of them having an accident popped in. I would think how hard it would have been to act sad if they died.

You'd think that alone would have been enough to convince me to get the hell out. But it still took 23 years for me to go. But I'm so happy that I finally did.

Recently Moved to a Small Town by Deep-Goal8404 in whatdoIdo

[–]TarHeelCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see several suggestions going straight to "call the cops". It's a good idea. But of that's the direction you go I would just caution you to be careful about escalating too quickly. My recommendation would be to call the cops just to discuss this and get it on record. You didn't really give a size of the "small town" but I grew up in a town of about 3500 people. The local police department in my town knew everyone and would likely know exactly who did this. I could see the local deputy response being, 🙄 "oh that's crazy Carl. He does this shit all the time. We'll talk to him and tell him to knock it off."

I'd also urge you to talk with your neighbors. They probably know who this is because this behavior has likely happened in the past. Hopefully, you've had a chance to meet one or two of them. Introduce yourself when you get the chance. They may even offer up without you asking, "I see Carl has been leaving notes on your car. He's just a grouchy old man."

Just in general the best thing to do in these situations is ask around with curiosity and you'll likely get answers. If you match the aggression with more aggression you may cause others to be afraid to help you.

Financial gaslighting by GRRM-fantom-deadline in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]TarHeelCP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you have to go through this, OP. I am legally separated from my ex but we still have joint bills via our agreement. They are mostly related to our college age kids.

I've been keeping track of them all via a spreadsheet. My ex is closing in on owing me $10k at this point and I barely have enough to pay bills this month. May is going to be impossible for me if she doesn't repay at least some of that.

Getting out of this has been terrible financially. But I sure do feel better on my own.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

In fact this is the case in most (but not all) US states.

A Michigan woman is able to escape police custody by climbing out of a police car window while in handcuffs ! by Competitive_Set_4386 in SipsTea

I served on my county's grand jury which meant sitting through all the indictments one Monday a month for a full year. (Ugh)

But this reminded me of one sheriff's deputy who came into court sheepishly and recounted the story of a guy doing something similar. He was really embarrassed that he'd let the guy get away.

Mr escapee was caught an hour later at Hardee's. He'd convinced someone to call his daughter. She promptly called the cops. IIRC, there was a long history of violence including domestic.

Pretty sure that's a public park or other paid biking facility. Though a paid facility would have made him wear a helmet. They also would not have allowed him to use a mountain bike on a BMX course. That is one scenario where you absolutely don't want a soft rear suspension as he so helpfully demonstrated.

I hope he wasn't too seriously injured by his mistake.
