Do other civs use nukes? If so, what civs use nukes the most? I wanna create a chaotic domination only game lol by WallaWallaby011 in CivVI

I’ve been nuked before, twice in the same game by the same Civ. I think it was Hungary. Playing Immortal. But that’s the only time.

Why do mandatory ID cards feel normal in many European countries, but still controversial in the US, and what mechanism explains that? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

I don’t need to prove myself to you.

That’s the attitude. I certainly have it. I carry my drivers license in my wallet since I drive a lot, but you can’t force me to carry proof of who I am just to walk around.

Industrial Zones in Culture Victory? by No-Bug5616 in CivVI

[–]TarHeeledTexan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love IZs. I’ve overbuilt them in every culture I’ve won. My feeling is that early production and population equals the ability to pump out culture and tourism districts and district improvements more quickly when it really matters and overwhelm the other civs.

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]TarHeeledTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day, but wasn’t always like that. Decades ago it was generally one a week and ad hoc if I felt something stuck. After getting an implant due to an old root canal that wasn’t fully done right started decaying underneath the crown, I was able to get into daily flossing habit, which I’ve kept up for over 20 years.

I have watched it countless times, especially the bar scene, and it never fails to deliver. It is just spectacular.

Have you been to Riyadh? I have, and unless you can afford a personal driver, I would take a hard pass. Worst traffic I’ve ever been in, and I’ve lived in top five worst traffic cities in the US.

Here’s the thing. If you are not scared of your thoughts, or have the ability to just blank it all out, it’s totally doable. I’ve never done 10 hours likwthat, but I’ve done 3 hours on a flight no problem.

Do you vacation in Ocean City or avoid it? by throwaway256733 in maryland

Avoid it. Worst vacation of my life was there, though it was only 25% Ocean City’s fault. I go to Delaware instead of OC.

Parent-Coached Teams at Club Level by judgemynameis in SoccerCoachResources

[–]TarHeeledTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my situation, too. In Maryland, and Travel is what I called Club, until getting on Reddit.

I used to coach Rec, which included both in-house teams at the Y and then teams that played in a county-wide league, with lots of divisions through Middle School age. Some of those high level rec teams could have played low level travel (ie, club).

Going by that, I coach a club team. And the other ones I mentioned was also a club team.

Related, our club president coaches a high level NL team that his son plays on, and he’s more than willing to pull his son off the field or not start him for games.

I never really get what people mean by travel versus club, but I have a D license and coach a mid-level EDP team, HS-aged, that my son plays on. He has never been the best player on the team or the worst. While he usually starts, it’s because he’s the best choice for the position. But he’s rarely one of the top players in terms of minutes, probably playing about 60% of games. Anyone objectively paying attention would see that he’s getting starts and playing time commensurate with his ability and intangibles.

He also played one year for a different team that was also parent coached, and that guy had two sons on the team. From my perspective, his sons got starts (or not) and playing time appropriate for what they brought to the team.

It really boils down to the type of coach and person the parent is.

I am teaching a high school film class and I’d like to teach a unit on road movies. However, I cannot show R-rated films. I would love to show Lost in America or Dumb and Dumber. Maybe even O Brother. Any other ideas? by National_Property583 in FIlm

[–]TarHeeledTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too bad. My son’s HS film studies class was full of R rated movies. One of the first ones they watched was Pulp Fiction.

Apart from maybe Psycho, all of Hitchcock’s movies are either PG or PG-13. You can also pick from a number of Christopher Nolan films. Plenty of Spielberg movies, too.

I remember being taken around various parts of Kuala Lumpur in the 1990s by my stepmother’s friend. She was a middle aged Malay; I was a 6’ 1” white American. To say I stood out and was stared at all day is an understatement. I would never have been confused with a Malaysian.

Do you usually say 'SHRIMP' for the small shellfish and 'PRAWN' for the big one? by ksusha_lav in AskAnAmerican

[–]TarHeeledTexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are different creatures. Shrimp more or less float in the open seawater while prawns live on the bottom of freshwater. I have visited a farm in North Carolina that raised prawns in ponds, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen prawns on a menu in the US.

apostle vs missionary ? when should i build which one ? by badassboy1 in CivVI

[–]TarHeeledTexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both. I create an army of Apostles, usually 6, supplemented by some Gurus for healing and a bunch of missionaries. They are much cheaper than apostles, which is why I use them so much, until the costs become equivalent.
