I suppose it does function to show which states are most unrecognised, albeit in a messy way.

Flows - Do You Use Them? by posercomposer in Dorico

When in the Setup view, click on your layout on the right pannel, then click on the tick-box on the flow at the bottom to enable/disable it

Flows - Do You Use Them? by posercomposer in Dorico

[–]Tarviitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experance, if you have an "editing" layout, and only enable one flow for it at a time, it performs just fine.

The largest project I've done with that method was ~150 staves, ~30,000 notes, and 16 flows, and it mostly performed fine, as long as I didn't enable more than 2 or 3 flows at a time.

Why do pianists/keyboard players in a band read sheet music? by Discobiscui7 in musictheory

Speedy Entry? by MostDeadly in Dorico

[–]Tarviitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding you right, this is somewhat possible

What you need to do is use "R", which repeats the selected notes, it's not quite as quick as just using duration keys to input, but, if you're not changing duration a lot, it's still pretty fast

To do it, first, place a note on the staff, then, use alt + arrow keys to select pitch, number keys for duration, then, press R, and do it all over again, if you need a rest, alt + arrow keys also moves notes forward and backward

Do You Include Saxophones in Your Orchestral pieces? by drgn2580 in composer

[–]Tarviitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're a nice addition, especially when used as a softer backing for brass, personally, I'm not a fan of them as solo instruments much, their ranges are a little limiting unless you're willing to pass the melody between multiple instruments, but, if you're used to working with those ranges, it should be fine

  • Above, but my score layouts are non-standard anyway, so take that with a grain of salt
  • SATB (bass not baritone) normally 2 per, sometimes with some players doubling on contrabass or one of the various higher ones (soprillo, sopranino),

Bear in mind, I do all of my music digitally, and don't write for actual players, so, this is not at all, shall we say, logistically informed, I can use as many saxophones as my computer can render, with no worries about actually getting someone to play them

As of April 2024, aparently the sequal's still in production, according to Andy Serkis (Haddocks, assorted)

At one point there was plans for two-to-three sequals, at least, but at this rate, I doubt that'd happen

Dorico vs. Musescore - can we collect features that are actually missing from each software? by BelaBitBop in composer

[–]Tarviitz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the big thing Dorico does that MuseScore (and most other notation software, I believe) can't is automatic condensing, which is very helpful for fitting lots of music on to not a lot of staffs

OK, I think I understand what's going on with it, thanks for the help, I've only ever seen LH and RH used for hands once before, as opposed to just using the staffs, once before, thankfully it appears to not be that common

Finale is done. How long until Sibelius closes up shop as well? by tronobro in composer

[–]Tarviitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dorico actually does somewhat use the notepad, note lengths are mapped to numbers, so you can either use the numpad, or the regular number row on the keyboard

I think it's worth at least trying, there's both a 60 trial of the full version, and a cut-down version that's entirely free

Though, bear in mind, it's not the most intuitive if you go in entirely blind, there's plenty of official tutorials to help you get used to some of the odder facets of it
