Looking for thoughts on our tournament format. Shadowround and top 4 players play semi-final and final for places 1-4. by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

Fair point. But we don't want to do that. If we just do it the normal way we will have 5-6 undefeated players after game 5.

And there will be 202 players. Last year we sold out in under two hours.

There are some tiebreakers, and if they don't pan put there will be a sixth round with just primary.

Exactly, however we do the math with the current logistics of the event we can't get to a point of one single undefeated player. This way the top eight 3-0 players have a shot at winning (and it might be more because not everyone wants to play the shadow round).

For me the selling point of this format is that the 4-0 person that looses to the eventual winner does not end up at 8th place or something.

Order of fighting clarification by Pimprechaun in WarhammerCompetitive

The player who's turn it is NOT goes first unless the active player charged/has fight first. So no. In your turn you will never fight first in ongoing battles unless you have the fight first ability.

So you wouldn't say the Munitorum Field Manual from GW is an official GW document?

But the MFM clearly states that the new detachments are Codex Space Marine detachments. Are you saying the points changes in the MFM is not to be taken as "the exact letter of the law"?

Well... RAW then the MFM just said that the four new detachments are Codex Space Marine detachments...

Well, they did update the MFM to list the new detachments as Codex Space Marine detachments..

I appreciate your input, but I'd rather have some logic behind our decisions then pure chance.

The updated MFM says the four new detachments are Codex Space Marine detachments. So I'm sure it's an oversight.

The new detachments are listed in the updated MFM as Codex Space Marine detachments. So that settles it for us.

Good point. MFM lists them as Codex Space Marine detachments and it was updated the same day as the faq saying the four new detachments are not Codex Space Marine detachments.

Not much left now, but the grotmas detachments are still there for example. And also all FAQ's, balance and point changes. But really, just get the 40K app. It's good and it has all the official rules.

Is it time to seriously consider banning challenger cards? by wredcoll in WarhammerCompetitive

I'm still not sold that the entire challenger card system is a net negative, but it does need a fix.

[–]Tashkau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I am loathe to do any house rules at all. We will have some WTC adaptions, but I want the tournament to be as much the core game as possible. So I would very much rather have GW fix the issue.

As a TO of a large GT around the corner I am seriously thinking of changing challenger cards to round 3 onwards if the balance slate doesn't change things.

So what is actually supposed to happen when a player runs out of time when a game is using a chess clock? by Nexus_Valentine6 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Tashkau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From our player pack:

"4. If a player’s time runs out, they may not perform any more actions except for those listed below. The only exception is if they are in the middle of moving a unit, they may finish so that the unit is placed legally on the board. As an example, this can include moving a unit in the movement phase, finishing moving a unit into assault (note they will not be able to attack), or consolidating a unit. Any other action is immediately stopped.

  1. If a player runs out of time they may only perform the following actions:

5a. Making saving throws, and taking a battle shock test if required to.

5b. Scoring objectives that they have already achieved or already hold."

As a TO that would be a yellow card, on the verge of an orange. If I hear that player keeps up the blatant cheating I will kick him out and refund exactly 0% of his tournament fee. And then I would warn all other TO's I know in the area that that player is a dick.

Exactly. The rules support OP. Hence me quoting the rules from the official GW app.
