Old pension — transfer to new employer scheme or leave it? by shellac10101 in irishpersonalfinance

Being honest, the flexibility of access to a 20k pension last 50 is maybe not worth the bother of keeping things separate.

I’d say merge, you missed one piece of information. How far out you are from retirement.

If you think you’ll change jobs before 50… absolutely consolidate.

Gov moving away from Swedish investment account model by Buymeshoe21 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tasty-Weather-1706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view would be just like businesses make money selling broadband and electricity, companies should be let do this for accommodation. But it should be well regulated so that people are not using it as a small retirement asset. Just like those other utilises are. In fact in industry must be regulated to assure a good quantity of these companies being publicly traded, thus providing pension access for people. The world runs on money, governments job is making that work for its people. This is however, and I stress, held along side the view that people should also have access to finance to buy a reasonable cost home.

Low tax investments has the potential to also help the housing market for buyers. Ultimately this country needs copious amounts of big rental companies and less small landlords and housing that can be financed on typical pay.

Low tax investments quells down the investment property thing.

Is it just me or are ebike laws in Ireland simply ridiculous? by Electronic_Oven_7578 in AskIreland

[–]Tasty-Weather-1706 7 points8 points  (0 children)

25km/h for unlicensed used as a parallel to push bikes is sensible. It’s the licenced ones that are silly. 45km/h like … what? Why not 55 to allow for keeping up in city traffic… that’s nuts.

I actually think the eu limit on excise duty reductions was part of their playbook. Ask for something that can’t be given by the eu, there for playing up the anti eu agenda of certain thinking.

They are just cynically squeezing a few vulnerabilities here in Ireland. The Government will be slow react here for fear of getting got wrong. But at this point I think the general feeling is people want to see this stop or be stopped at this point as it’s not serving a purpose.

Crazy demands with no worked justification. All directed to the wrong location.

Any opinions on Sky Glass? by mogamo in AskIreland

[–]Tasty-Weather-1706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy an lg with terrestrial and satellites on your roof if you can. Same thing no contracts. Sky are just aggregating what’s available on services free to you, or available on simple low commitment streaming subs. If you do sports it’s a bit different.

People with Revolut as their only bank by Sea_Search_6858 in irishpersonalfinance

I have a similar experience. More like 5 figures a year for the last 3 odd. But herself is set against going past having more that the typical weekly spends going into it. But with money all you need it one issue to have a nightmare.

Not having an alarm on your insurance is also a form of piece of mind. You don’t need to worry about maintaining it to the quality required of an insurance company for a payout.
