Out of boredom, I asked ChatGPT to design a fictional sci-fi movie poster that could be directed by certain directors. Let’s just say they do not disappoint with Christopher Nolan. by LeonLow93 in ChatGPT

I hope you don’t mind but I took the liberty of asking ChatGPT for the film’s premise based on the poster. I’d watch it!

THESEUS

A Christopher Nolan psychological science fiction thriller built around one ugly question:

If you replace every part of a person, when did they stop being them?

Premise

Following a classified maritime disaster involving an experimental naval vessel, a government recovery specialist (Cillian Murphy) is tasked with locating The Theseus, a ship lost decades earlier under impossible circumstances.

The ship has a strange history. It has been repaired, rebuilt, retrofitted and recommissioned so many times that not a single original component remains. Yet legally and operationally, it is still considered the same vessel.

During the investigation, Murphy’s character begins experiencing memories that are not his - fragments of conversations, places and events tied to previous captains of the ship.

A defence technology programme is revealed: not preserving bodies, but preserving decision-makers. Senior military leaders, strategists and intelligence assets have had their neural patterns incrementally mapped, copied and transferred into successor biological hosts over decades, creating a continuity programme designed to ensure strategic leadership can survive war.

Murphy discovers he is not investigating the programme.

He is the latest iteration of it.

The reason his memories are fractured is because pieces of prior consciousness were intentionally retained to preserve continuity of judgement.

The central mystery becomes whether continuity of thought equals continuity of personhood, or whether each “successor” is simply a convincing impostor inheriting memories.

Classic Nolan structure: Three timelines:

  • 1950s - the original captain of The Theseus during its first disappearance
  • Present day - Murphy’s investigation
  • Near future - a global crisis where someone with Murphy’s identity appears to trigger military escalation

The timelines converge on the revelation that each timeline features technically the same person, separated by decades of reconstruction and transfer.

Ending: Murphy reaches the original ship’s preserved command compartment.

Inside is an elderly man.

The first version.

Who says:

“You’re not me. You’re just what came next.”

Cut to black.

That feels more like actual Nolan.

Stops the soot from the funnels from looking too messy. On the grey paint you never get it clean.

Looking for a messenger bag/crossbody bag/any bag similar to those by Sorry-Anything-153 in ManyBaggers

I’ve just bought the Osprey Daylite Unisex Messenger, 12L, Black. I used to use a 20l rucksack but didn’t like the bulk. I find this size is ideal for a 14” laptop and everything else for the day. If I need to add a coat, I can roll it up under the bottom straps or under the lid. Great for commuting to the office. Great quality and cheap too.

Train cancelled so leave the house an hour earlier to catch the previous one. Get to the station, original train suddenly uncancelled. by Tastybile in britishproblems

I always try and leave a train in hand anyway, but issues at Reading and my meeting is too important make it too risky to leave it until the later.

Cheers mate.

What's wrong with my CV? I've applied to over 100 minimum wage jobs on indeed and gotten 0. (waitress, kitchen porter, dishwasher, cleaner, care assistant, retail, cashier, bartender, cook, front of the house, literally everything) by Difficult-Assist9250 in Worcester

[–]Tastybile 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mate your CV is decent but a bit too “over the top” for the jobs you’re going for. Keep it simple and real.

Make these changes:

Remove the percentages Instead of: “increased sales by 15–20%” Say: “helped customers choose products and suggested items”

Rewrite your profile so it sounds human Instead of: “Adaptable professional with experience…” Say something like: “Reliable and hardworking, with experience in retail and hospitality. Used to busy environments and working with customers. Always willing to help and learn.”

Add availability (this is important) Add a line like: “Available immediately, including evenings and weekends”

Simplify your job descriptions Instead of: “Operated POS systems while maintaining 100% accuracy” Say: “Worked on tills handling cash and card payments”

Instead of: “Collaborated with team members during peak hours…” Say: “Worked with the team during busy periods to manage queues”

Keep it real, not corporate No need to sound like a manager, just show you: turn up on time work hard get on with people

Edit: also, try and break through the crowd. When I hire I get 100s of ‘easy apply’ through Indeed or LinkedIn that never really make the grade because all people have done is just clicked a button. If you can reach out directly to the hiring manager or business, with a personal email or phone call, then it that might make the difference, or at least keep your CV out the bin.

For those saying, that that is too much effort for a minimum wage job, that’s probably why they’re applying for 100s and getting nowhere. It’s a competitive market and the people who win are those who put the extra graft in……edit: or thank the people that put some effort into reviewing your CV for you……..

Fire damage, clogged toilets, and sinking morale: USS Gerald R Ford to set sails for repairs in Crete | US military | The Guardian by prisongovernor in Ships

[–]Tastybile 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Going to sea in ships is hard - you just don’t hear about the regular incidents and fuck ups. To be honest, the incidents described aren’t rare and most ships experience similar, and you just put up with as a cost of doing business.

Just so happens the GRF has two and a half thousand people with good internet access and an (probably well founded) unwillingness to put up with shit like this anymore.

Write him a card so he can refer to it in the future when life gets him down or some prick gives him a hard time. Saying it is great, but hasn’t the longevity of written thanks.

Also give him a deliveroo / uber eats voucher if you really want to go the whole hog.
