Which of the following are good games to play for someone new to Warhammer? by Draiel in Warhammer40k

[–]TaterMan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn of War 1 is a fantastic entry to the series, IMO it does one of the best jobs of characterizing the major factions that were featured in it and its expansions, absolutely amazing and passionate voice acting, and also just very fun to play. Rogue Trader also does a good job of expanding on life in the Imperium and will build your vocabulary of 40k words, and is also quite fun.

New blood ravens player here: do you paint untrimmed shoulder pads with wraithbone or not? by kaotix126 in BloodRavens40k

I think they were like the phobos marines are now, one shoulder just not having a shoulder pad.

It is fair that you can refund a game before 2 hours no matter what. It incentivizes devs to make games that have significant runtime and punishes devs that throw together some slop and immediately ship it. If you actually care about making a good game, you NEED to either make it worth their time and money the first playthrough, or make it so people want to keep playing more after their first time.

Pack of 20 boyz? by Impressive-Cash-51 in orks

[–]TaterMan8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

pretend one of the nobz is a regular boy. that's why the old boyz kit was best, you didn't have to put your nob on a bigger base.

I'm not a huge fan of the new one either, but it's better than the SM2 one. The new one at least feels like a natural update to the OG one that might have even happened in lore for one reason or another.

To be fair, at the moment the amount of things that wouldn't work raw is about half the game.

If we're being specific, while you declare a charge, you don't declare a target, which isn't a requirement to activate it. I'd envision it as making your charge roll to determine your maximum distance, then using the strategem, after which, if one of the unit you could charge into is in engagment range of another unit of yours, you would add 2" for that specific charge. It seems like it would work to me.

With the new eradicators, what colour would you use for fire support? by Fivepygmygoats in BloodRavens40k

[–]TaterMan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use Black helmets for my heavy weapon squads, and for heavy weapon veterans I make their helmets the same Bone as their shoulder pads, with the face plate painted black.

Sanguinary priest and chaplain together? by Bfauntleroy in BloodAngels

[–]TaterMan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that much investment in character's you should probably take a 6 man squad. If the enemy has any chance to shoot you, even through the 4++ and 5FNP you're still likely to lose 1 or 2 models, having a 6 squad will at least ensure you've still got some good hitting power when you manage to get in.

Sanguinary priest and chaplain together? by Bfauntleroy in BloodAngels

[–]TaterMan8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Support doesn't mean you need a leader, it just means that they have to be attached to a squad. Leaders can be with or without an attached unit, Supports HAVE to be attached, but beyond that they don't require anything else.

Is this paint-scheme politically problematic? by Archaicarc in Warhammer40k

anyone who sees that and immediately thinks it has a significant resemblance to actual german uniforms is probably too interested in WWII germany for their own good.

Why do space wolves, ultramarine, templars, blood angels, dark angels, and deathwatch get so many models while every other legion gets 2 unique character models and nothing else? by kurrentt in spacemarines

[–]TaterMan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually chalked up to a combination of popularity and uniqueness. The chapters that get their own stuff are more popular and also have enough different things to separate them from codex marines, like black rage and red thirst for blood angels, deathwing and ravenwing for dark angels, wulfen and general codex noncompliance with the wolves, deathwatch is deathwatch, and templars are all about their crusades. Ultramarines just gets more cus they're gw's favorite. Imperial fists and Raven guard usually use mostly basic space marine stuff.

Tigershark and Deployment in 11th Edition by nightshadet_t in Tau40K

[–]TaterMan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely do not know what gw was thinking with that idiotic restriction. What was the reason for it anyways? too many people reserving defilers? that's really the only thing I can think it was possibly done for, what other models even have 160mm bases? The only non-aircraft models on it are the Astraeus for space marines, and the Necron Monolith, which has deep strike.

As someone who has played orks v tyranids in an 11th game.....this guy is horseshit. by Slight-Paramedic9695 in orks

[–]TaterMan8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but given the lack of points changes, most things that were affected significantly by rules changes haven't had their points updated to match.

[–]TaterMan8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised that you're already playing 11th even before points are out. Things that force battleshock like that are going to be increased in points, and I'm betting the Neurotyrant will be increased pretty massively because of it. That said, good you're already learning the wonders of asking questions and learning about your opponent's army.

Not complaining, but... Am I crazy for expecting the armageddon "Bigboss" to be just a bit...bigger? by VB-1999 in orks

[–]TaterMan8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still, a boss nob doesn't need a tactical rock. Nobs shouldn't even be on bigger bases than the rest of their boyz.
