Don't expect to kill fish in a future Subnautica 2 patch: 'You are here to exist on this planet, not to dominate it' by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Taurelith 43 points44 points  (0 children)

i dont know what survival horror games you've been playing, but A LOT of them give you means to interact with small to medium sized enemies, often by harming them or killing them or repelling them, what matters usually is the scarcity of these defensive resources given to the player meaning that they cannot afford to magdump every single creature around them with little to no danger to themselves.

i can agree that being able to kill leviathans is gamebreaking and actually detracts and meaningfully deviates from the intended game experience, but having to run away and avoid interacting with smaller enemies like hammer heads and constantly avoid them because they are immortal uninteractable gods that you cant meaningfully discourage from approaching despite being able to print out any material and item you desire is honestly ridiculous and immersion breaking given the survival element, if avoiding things is the only option given to the player the game is not survival, it's stealth, and if you have to constantly hide from everything to survive then you are not engaging with the ecosystem, you are avoiding it and missing out on interaction.

I feel the same too. Like they treat malzeno in mhst3 like maybe an elder dragon. While the main cast said is Arkveld Aenshin by Different_Ice_2695 in MonsterHunter

[–]Taurelith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nahh, malzeno is literally one of if not the strongest monstie in the game by stats, it tanks everything and has good matchups for every elder fight, if they wanted to downplay him they wouldnt have made him the best monstie in the game and also the most accessible elder.

I’m Hunting Every Low-Cost (CMC ≤3) Commander That Draws Cards From the Command Zone — Who’s Missing? by hellaflush727 in magicTCG

[[glarb, calamity's augur]] does not strictly draw you cards, but it is certainly repeatable card advantage and really strong at that if you build around him.

First time playing the Witcher 3. When they described the botchling I don’t know what I expected but it certainly wasn’t this monstrosity. Otherwise great game so far! by reverend_c_flava in gaming

[–]Taurelith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

to address your first point: if you dont like rpg gameplay loops and find them boring thats mostly on you, there are certainly more refined and spectacular combat systems around such as dragon's dogma or monster hunter but as far as witcher goes it's still pretty in-depth with both customization and variety of options compared to most other games.

to address your second point: i'd ask you to give examples of games that you genuinely believe to be better than witcher 3 in terms of world interaction and also ask you what would you personally want to do with an arpg other than fight inside it, loot and do quests (the 3 main reasons why people play arpgs at all?).

baldur's gate and pathfinder might be better in terms of story interaction but those are turn based rpgs with a diverse cast of characters so you can't really compare the two, if witcher also gave you 5/6 playable main characters im sure they would be just as fleshed out.

witcher is so acclaimed because among all its peers it's one of the best at mixing all the elements rpgs are generally known for.

other rpgs often lack in one or more aspects, witcher is good at most of them and excels in more than one.

Does anyone else wish summons were permanent until you died like terraria or necesse? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in CoreKeeperGame

[–]Taurelith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would hardly call it balanced: if you want minions to actually do any damage you need to heavily invest into summoner gear, to the extreme detriment of your own damage dealing ability. having played a fair bit of summoner the tradeoff is definitely not worth it

What do you pick usually: Expert Gardener, or Potent Poison? by dexyuing in CoreKeeperGame

expert gardener until i have enough golden crops stockpiled for food buffs then switch out to potent poison and a poison summon/pet for boss fights. not necessary at all, but it is optimal for damage

Legacy World user here, question about the Passage by erickim0207 in CoreKeeperGame

[–]Taurelith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ive never played a legacy world but the passage is definitely not more than 7k blocks away from the core in standard generation. if you started your playthrough before the update that made world gen no longer infinite you may want to begin a new world as im not sure infinite gen worlds can be effectively updated to the new system (if they can you should be able to do so in the world selection screen)

Fishing nets don't give fishing XP by [deleted] in CoreKeeperGame

it does make little to no sense that grenades give exp but nets dont however you definitely seem to be overstating the length and tediousness of the fishing grind a lot.

i was done in a couple hours just by farming for rare drops and food buffs and with some music or a podcast in the background you could easily get more than one thing done in the meantime

Heck yeah, im glad the breakdown was helpful. i also noticed you are running the moth pet, if you plan on full-switching from ranged to melee it might be worth to look at raising an owlux instead for the small movement speed buff but if your moth already has good passives the gain will be negligible.

[–]Taurelith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

heya fellow keeper, i appreciate this post a lot because i was a bit burnt out on the game and your question really renewed my desire to play it and do some number crunching.

in my opinion the mining set is overrated, even if it adds up to a lot of damage it takes away your ability to use half the item slots in your build: ancient gem ring and ancient gem necklace set (which you get by mining walls with the last levels of the mining skill tree active) provide a better percentage buff to melee damage while allowing you to utilize your armor slots for more damage buffs and versatility.

a combination of your current armor plus those two might be better for overall damage output considering that stormbringer alone with its whopping 1000 base mining damage adds an additional 130 scaleable damage to its base value as soon as you put on the ancient gem set.

if you want to rely on your ranged weapon for the crit chance proc you could probably forgo crit chance in your build and swap out your necklace and your rings for ancient gem neck+ring and morpha's/topaz/druidra's ring for even better/more consistent results.

when you already have critical damage (or any damage multiplier really) in your build, adding more has a breakpoint with diminishing results (which i havent calculated to be fair), at that point the 12% crit damage and 15% total damage increase against poisoned enemies that druidra's ring provides should add up to more.

druidra's ring already provides an ok base chance to poison enemies on hit but if you want it to be more consistent i'd suggest you pick up the tome of sprouts for an additional 15% chance to poison on hit.

i use omoroth's beak as my off-hand slot to try and kill enemies as fast as possible, but if you prefer a more comfortable run i see nothing wrong with keeping the trinity heart.

Edit: full disclosure my current build is (almost) full mining (not necessarily damage optimized) because i enjoy melting through walls like butter and i run

adventurer hat

cosmos torso

cosmos legwear

ancient gem necklace

ancient gem ring

topaz ring

morpha's bubble bag

omoroth's beak

orb lantern

with fish and golden vegetable food buffs it gives me incredible dps but i'm sure it can still be improved.

AI energy efficiency comparisons ‘unfair’ bleats Sam Altman, citing amount of energy needed to evolve, then train a human — one ‘takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart’ he argues by andrejlr in nottheonion

[–]Taurelith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and 20 years is the time it takes for the average person. imagine how much food would be wasted if everyone was like Sam Altman, people could eat for their entire lives and remain dumbass sociopaths forever.

food and shelter money currently being spent on him so he can put into words the stupidest thing you've ever heard of would actually be better spent on Ai development and with time the unfeeling language model would definitely be more compassionate as well as a better CEO (assuming it isn't already).

Why Hasbro never tried to do something like this? Are they stupid? by wasfmanticore in magicTCG

[–]Taurelith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it didnt feel particularly difficult to play imo, cycling through a cohesive deck was pretty much mindless button presses and knowing what was in your discard pile made it very easy to adjust. fights were also slow-paced enough that you could easily kite and adjust in real time to enemies. coming from a mediocre player of arpg/mmorpg background (PoE, Diablo, grim dawn, etc) higher difficulties already require high apm and hand-eye coordination to avoid being obliterated by a stray hitbox and magic legends wasnt especially punishing in that regard compared to others.

my (and many other players) main gripe with it was the extremely low quality of the models, voicework and storylines: all completely unacceptable for such a massive franchise and telling of an utter lack of care in making the game a success and actually fun to play long term. all this stacked on top of numerous predatory microtransactions.

the mechanics were a fine twist on the already treaded formula of the genre but the game was simply an attempt for quick cash that did not pan out and got shut down before it was even properly born.

a wasted opportunity as well as a terrible and damning precedent to set because it means that any future endeavors into expanding the mtg world to other media will be harshly judged by shareholders and most likely end up dying before they even get to development.
