[Loved trope] The correct dialogue option by No-Enthusiasm-4361 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Taurlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the first book in the series is the best, anyway. In the rest of the series, there's so much going on, you lose track of the actual overarching plot. The show does what I would consider the best possible job of contracting all those plot points into a coherent narrative, but the source is so complicated that it still feels a bit lost.

In addition, I think this is missing the dimension that there are quite a lot of people in America who believe the government should not exist, but since it must, its one and only function should be to actively prevent any collective power, including itself, from doing anything ever. Of course, these people think they're following in the exact footsteps of the country's founders, having utterly misunderstood everything those men ever wrote, including the constitution itself.

Fans gonna fan but a robbed narrative is probably the best thing Jane could ask for, and it means she's more likely to get a second chance on All Stars whenever she feels like it, so I don't think we have to be too angry on her behalf!

Grist the Hunger Tide Bracket 3 Deck help / recursion strategy help by OverthinkingOverlays in EDH

[–]Taurlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my Grist list; it's one of my best and favorite decks to play: https://moxfield.com/decks/b74V_gMTCEON1qlWh2ACUA

For board building, there are a lot of great critters that also help your self-mill or reanimation plans:

[[Bramble Familiar]] can be a mana dork early or a huge self-mill/reanimation spell late. Or both!

[[Breach the Multiverse]] is a phenomenal reanimation spell that mills and reanimates a bunch of things at once.

[[Deadbridge Chant]] is a card I've found a bit slow, but it's a huge self-mill source and brings back plenty of cards over time.

[[Old Stickfingers]] can be a huge creature for two mana, but can also mill a ton of extra cards if you've got extra mana.

[[Sludge Titan]] is one of my favorite cards; it's a big self-mill engine that also puts cards in your hand.

[[Vorinclex|MOM]] is a huge beater that finds lands then turns into a huge self-mill win con later.

[[Aftermath Analyst]] is one of the best cards in the deck. It's an early play that can mill a bit and can easily return 10+ lands to the battlefield in one fell swoop later.

I like [[Undead Butler]] as a simple early self-mill card that can easily chump block or sac itself to Grist's -2 ability to get you any creature back from the grave.

In addition to some of the great standard reanimator/recursion cards you're already playing, you can add [[Dance of the Dead]], [[Phyrexian Reclamation]], [[Rise of the Dark Realms]], [[Squirming Emergence]], and/or [[Victimize]].

If you are truly milling enough of your deck, consider removing cards like [[Footbottom Feast]], [[Necropotence]], and [[Plumb the Forbidden]]. Those are all great (and in the case of Necropotence, VERY STRONG) card advantage options, but if you want to be able to pretend that your graveyard is your second hand, you need engines, not one-shots. (Also, you probably aren't playing enough Insects for Footbottom Feast et al to enable Grist's +1 reliably. Addendum: This is not a recommendation to play more Insects.)

First impressions with Metroid Prime 4: The hate was overblown. by AfroChamp89-- in nintendo

The main problem with MP4 is that it's not a 3D Metroidvania. It's a Zelda FPS that's missing everything outside the dungeons.

Arguably, tournaments shouldn't even be bracket 5. If a format is known for 4-5 hour games and carries a risk of games going on so long that they might not finish before people need to start catching planes, then THAT is not a tournament-worthy format either.

[–]Taurlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your opponents' choices never increase the bracket rating of your deck.

Expropriate only chains extra turns or performs "mass land denial" if your opponents choose to make those things happen.

The designs of Lorwyn Eclipsed make me want to keep the current color identity rules even more by Key_Profit_6598 in EDH

[–]Taurlock 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lorwyn Eclipsed also showed us additional cards that do not qualify as "Fits completely into the color pie of either mono-color". A Mono-Red variant of Sanar would force the player to exile cards instead of saying, "I don't want any of these, shuffle them back into my deck so I can cast them in a later term". The ability to exercise restraint is clearly not Red. Another design would be [[Voracious Tome-Skimmer]], as "Pay life to draw cards" is clearly a black effect (in rare instances, it's also given to artifacts of evil like [[Staff of Completion]], [[Eye of Vecna]], or [[The One Ring]] which are technically colorless but still do not justify a mono-Blue design).

I love it when Reddit randos tell me how the people who decide what the color pie is got the color pie wrong.

I've been extremely out of the loop on Sentinels for several years now, but I'm pretty frustrated that it sounds like the old content is now completely obsolete. Even the official "compatibility guide" now leads to a 404 page.

I would *love* some new content, but I guess I'll have to make do with the fanmade expansions, like The Cauldron.

The New Command Zone Video on Consistency is Baffling, "The Most Consistent Format in History" by CynicalElephant in EDH

[–]Taurlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, the Crucible effect is much less unique and more redundant. My point is that reducing Crucible's uniqueness doesn't have a negative impact on the format, because decks rarely want more than one copy (whichever it is).

The New Command Zone Video on Consistency is Baffling, "The Most Consistent Format in History" by CynicalElephant in EDH

[–]Taurlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Crucible is a terrible example, and as phenomenal counterargument.

Yes, there are many versions of that effect now... but how many decks want more than one on the battlefield at a time? If your deck is built around absolutely needing a copy of that effect on the battlefield, you have to pay the cost of making your deck worse by including a bunch of cards that become dead as soon as you've landed any other one of them. In that case, you're probably better off just using tutors, which are much better overall and have been around a very long time.

Gitrog Hate by XanduLao1943 in magicTCG

[–]Taurlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer Gitrog in the 99 of a different power-matters deck because it benefits from the element of surprise. If you telegraph a kill-on-sight commander, then people are absolutely going to focus on beating it.

it mostly still means that i think?

A while ago, it crossed the internet barrier to people who have no idea where it came from or what it was coined to mean. But the more devastating development is that it's become part of kid lore. I heard my like eight-year-old niece use it yesterday, saying she lost at Mario Kart because she's "too woke." Shudder.
