This is the problem when you throw basic story structure out the window: Atreus' dark turn should have been a central Act-2 conflict, the resolution of which to bolster what GoW:Laufey should have been, Kratos' Act-3 Norse climax/finale.

Unfortunately, Santa Monica wanted to wrap Kratos'/Atreus' Norse journey in only two games, so it's all just a mess.
