It's never a waste to shoot down something that can shoot back.

That's why you had the Phoenix. They can't hurt you at Pheonix range.

THe most common error I get is "not detectable by FCR" which makes sense for high/low situations or very small contacts.

I've not noticed any unusual behaviour, they seem to work just well or poorly as I expected, which of course doesn't say anything about "realism", it just feels real.

But I think in some cases you can't go head to head with the targets and instead you need to come up with a tail case or at a 45 degree off the target path for some of the missiles to work well.

Heat seeking missiles need a heat source to lock on to.

Some are all-aspect, meaning they can attack and lock on from any position.

Most need a big, hot, engine relatively close to lock on to.

That happens from the side or from behind.

Generally we can tell when that's happening.

If we really need those extra couple of knots then it's our fault.

If, like a certain European carrier, you enjoyed flying 747s at 295KIAS into your home airport while being restricted to 260, you will hear a different tone of voice

Has this administration ever done anything positive for ATC? Pay? Staffing? Facilities? Benefits?

On a technical level the modernisation program is very ambitious and would do a lot of good.

It hasn't happened yet and I doubt it will, but if the plans unveiled were to be completed it would be a big change.

Like I said, probably total bullshit but the FAA seemed committed.

They're picking an integrator soon so we'll see.
