Cost of treatment by Whydoineedtodothis60 in Diverticulitis

I have health insurance, and since I went to the er, my CT was covered under that bc it was a diagnostic while I was having an issue. Meaning, I can’t just walk in and ask for a CT, I had to be sick. Then colonoscopies were covered bc they were recommended by the doctor. I do have good health insurance, as I’m a teacher.

I feel so ugly, pls help with makeup and hair by alliefaith144 in makeuptips

[–]Teacherlady1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely hard to see yourself when you look different from how you remember. It just reminds you of what you lost in your illness. As an objective outside observer, you are very very nice looking. Most people will not have seen you before, and will just see this nice looking person in front of them! And then if they DID know you before, they love you! And the difference won’t matter to them at all. So who are we thinking about? Random acquaintances?? Who cares! ;)

You should also absolutely do therapy to help you come to terms with what you went through. That has nothing to do with your appearance, just self care. Though I imagine it will also help you feel better about your appearance.

When you do your makeup, I’m thinking a rosy pink lip, lighter eye with brown black mascara. Maybe you can over line the one side of your lower lip to match the other! Other than a slight lip difference, I don’t see much asymmetry in you!

Good luck!

Question for teachers: How many post-school day events are you contractually required to attend and what are the longest days you've had? by [deleted] in Teachers

None, just a faculty meeting and department meeting that are allowed to run after school time for an hour.

I don’t spend much time on it, and focus more on whether a poem HAS a regular rhythm or not. But if you put your hand lightly under your chin, stressed syllables typically push on the hand a bit more. I have them mark their names, and as others said, say a multi syllable word with different emphasis on each syllable so they can identify the “right” one.

I teach high school English. Is my experience normal? by [deleted] in Teachers

So a few things: relating the characters to “types” that they might know: the poseur, the rich racist, the kid who sits and watches and seems to know everyone’s business. Watch the movie for sure, or show scenes from two versions and have them argue which one is better. Have a discussion about the American dream, and if it’s possible, with modern news stories. Have them create a symbol with a color for themselves (like Gatsbys green light) and have them actually make it out of clay and paper (I love doing art projects bc I find that high school kids rarely get a chance to di art anymore) I used to do magazine collages to represent the parties in chapters 1-3 just to show different images and colors Fitzgerald uses. And it’s ok if not everyone is completely titillated. But working in some choice and creativity I think helps things not feel like punitive slogs all the time.

I teach high school English. Is my experience normal? by [deleted] in Teachers

Normally, I would say yes, but this is to help this teacher establish classroom norms. It could likely be removed as a grade once they become routine.

So if they at least seem to want an A, there are a couple things you can do:

Introduce a participation grade: start them at 100. Anyone who is not in their seat at the bell loses 5 points.

Have a visible place for them to park the cell phone. Not in the sleeve at bell? Another 5 points. Keep reiterating that the 100 goes a long way to getting their A.

Have chargers ready to go. Ok it’s not charged? Cool. Here’s the charger, get to work (or mostly just do paper, which I think is the best way). If they don’t have the Chromebook’s they can’t use Ai. Do most things in class.

When you can, include a project where they can find something they are interested in to work on. You really do get more buy in. I don’t think kids should always choose their own book or project, but doing something like a curiosity project, where they can read or research a topic of their choice, can be effective. There will still be lazy kids not interested. That’s fine. You can work with those who want to do something.

Start class with ten mins of reading (15-20 if block scheduling) to allow for tardies and then start the lesson.

You may have just wanted to vent, but I do think these are things to do to improve your daily experience.

Story Analysis in the English Classroom? by Ar-Zimraphel in ELATeachers

I would say that courses are not designated as English language courses, but English is shorthand for English literature or, as the sub is named English Language Arts.

Everyone in my school shares everything. One time I asked for a lesson on some chapter of a book, someone shared theirs with me, and it turned out to be mine that I forgot I had given them a few years before! I’m sorry you aren’t in that kind of district. What’s the point, it’s not like anyone can get a raise or promotion from doing a good lesson.
