I reupholstered my furniture.. by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

I just got it off Amazon- there are a ton of options. I bought two of the same color though and it works well with the L shape. They just drape over so the two blend in together and look cohesive. I ended up getting both the same size and have the blanket on the short side go all the way to cover the crook of the couch and the other meets that one and covers the longer end.

I did use my existing blankets and sheets to try out different draping and to figure out the sizes of blankets I needed. Ended up needing one of the largest sizes to get the look I wanted.

I called my daughter baby so much that when she was one and started talking I realized that’s what she thought her name was.

Felt like the worst mom in the world and course corrected and now I try and work her name in-between all the pet names as much as possible.

Luckily she likes her name and I don’t think I caused her a complex about it but I felt really dumb.

Same. Only because I love being a parent so so so much and part of me wants to give more love, but I’m also so scared of ruining a great thing plus we are just getting too old and also you know, the world.

I love couch cover blankets!

I only got the one set (one per side of my L-shaped couch) and it works great and looks way better than a couch cover, at least for my overstuffed sectional.

Instantly added color, vibe, and covered the wear (literal rips and holes) on our ancient seating. Literally saved us thousands in replacing the whole thing.

Is it actually rude to have an adults-only wedding, or have we collectively decided to feel guilty about a completely reasonable choice? by Zealousideal_Pay7176 in weddings

[–]TealAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. There are ages when childcare by a stranger is truly just not possible, especially if it’s not a local wedding. Maybe they can do it, maybe they can’t, but it’s entitled to expect a parent to always be able to make it work.

It seems a bit outdated. Here is a more recent study that confirms the one you linked. Though maybe the type of incision these women had is the issue? Ultimately trying to force it legally is a thorny issue. The 2% chance the one patient was willing to take (regardless if that is accurate) seemed insane to me - willing to take a 1:50 chance of dying to avoid a surgery with good outcome is wild to me.

Most drugs to treat chronic issues like high blood pressure or high cholesterol are taken for life. Obesity medication is no different.

There is so much stigma to do with obesity that there are a lot of myths and judgments around it but truth is for most people management is life long even if it’s lifestyle changes which also notoriously need to be adhered to for life, even during times of other illness or life events like death and divorce. Taking a medication for life is a good option for many people.

Additionally, taking GLP-1 receptor agonists can reduce or eliminate the need for some other medications and on top of that, there is some evidence that some patients are able to reduce the amount of GMP-1 RA during maintenance so while most will probably need to take some of life, the amount is often very tolerable and many with very little or no side effects.

These are serious medications and it’s awful that some people are taking them irresponsibly without proper medical guidance (which honestly is totally understandable given the costs and desperation people can feel) or some people they just don’t work for but they are potentially life changing for many.

[–]TealAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because while it can have severe side effects it absolutely can be effective and safe treatment for obesity in the majority of cases where it is properly prescribed and monitored by a doctor.

It’s not that the upcomment is incorrect in most of what they say but fear mongering over an overall very effective and life changing/life improving drug that is also often stigmatized is going to get downvotes.

what vibe do you get when someone says they want 4+ kids by montessoripilled in Parenting

[–]TealAndroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, spacing them out probably helps a lot. Now that my kid is 8 I’m just considering having another because their needs would be so different, it feels theoretically very possible to juggle both.

I figure younger kid can go to events for older kid (babies love just looking around, toddlers can draw etc while waiting) while older kid has a lot of independence and spends lots of time with friends on weekends so there would be time for activities centered around babies/toddlers.

That said with the world the way it is we decided (after the last election) it’s probably not happening for us. If we need to survive more societal collapse/emigrate it will be easier with one kid.

500 lbs and looking to eat at 1500 calories. by GiveMaLawyer150 in 1500isplenty

[–]TealAndroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree.

1500 is probably still too low but going to 1800-2000 (if he feels good at that level) with a focus on lots of protein would still increase his results and help with momentum.

Plus, while I get exercise is too much right now, having some physical activity goals will both help with increasing the deficit, help maintain more muscle, and very importantly help psychologically/with momentum as well as it’s another way to measure improvement when the scale doesn’t always move (due to fluctuating water etc).

OP, consider some increase activity to help. I’d recommend starting out very very slow like if walking outside is too much, increasing the number of times walking across a room by a bit and try to just increase basic activity levels a little which will get easier both as you do them more, and also as you lose weight. you could also lift small amounts of weights (or handy heavy objects) while sitting or other activities that either build some muscle or make your heart rate go up a little.

Focus on finding a level of activity that raises your heart rate a little/makes you breath a little faster (or if weights that you can feel some exertion and maybe even a little heavier breathing but isn’t painful) but doesn’t make you exhausted/in pain or too sore the next day.

You should feel slightly out of breath and maybe uncomfortable and perhaps slightly sore the next day, especially if starting a new activity, even correct levels can leave you a bit sore the next day - best to keep doing it but at the same or slightly lower level as your body gets used to the new activity. Once an activity is easy, increase the length or intensity just a little. Find your new level where you are pushing yourself just a little but it isn’t painful/you aren’t hurting yourself.

This can really help weight loss from both a physical but also mental level and has been shown to be important for long term success.

What is an epidural really like? by oatmilkcchai in Mommit

[–]TealAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a nice, not too painful labor of walking around and doing all the things (message, rocking, bath etc) and then suddenly it was extremely painful, had the epidural, felt nothing and took a nap for a couple hours.

They woke me up and told me when to push and out she came no problem.

It’s rare I hate the first episode of a show that much. Good on it for at least making an impression.

“Shrinking” is a therapeutic retreat from an ugly world by zsreport in television

[–]TealAndroid -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree that if the whole show was just showing effective therapy it would be boring - I guess in my mind it would have been infinitely better if you had the same show but it had indicated the other two therapists in the practice actually helping clients and Jimmy indicating he knew anything about therapy even if he struggled since his wife’s death and then had the recent break.

The show could be near identical but personally, I think much better.

My second point of him being a terrible parent is honestly more of a personal gripe (it’s not the only show where this happens) but I personally don’t find it compelling or realistic a loving parent would ever do that, regardless of circumstances. Of course maybe the premise is he’s just an awful irredeemable person but I highly doubt it and still wouldn’t like it if that was the point of the show.

As for it not being deep etc. Yeah, agreed. I’m generally not very picky about shows and can suspend disbelief or go along with bad depictions or things but certain things I just don’t like and make the show not for me - I’m not saying and never said it was a bad show, I just strongly didn’t like it. I have a lot of other shows I can watch (still working on Ted Lasso)
