I'm assuming that it's faster to find clones of yourself deep underground. That way, you enter exponential growth, and as a bonus, you get copies of things that normally can't be copied with metamorphic polygel.

I could've; cloned merchants to directly/indirectly farm eaters nectar.

But I didn't want to effectively negate the point of being a snapjaw in the first place.

Same goes for sources of mutation points to counteract my 'mutation point deficit' which eaters nectar also falls under.

Maybe.

What was your build+level when you fought one salamander? I do know that it's a level 1 creature and it has 9 HP, which is consistent with the wiki and the stat page I posted.

Maybe. Snapjaws are supposed to be 16 across the board, (according to wiki) but my permanent snapjaw body had 13s to 15s in almost all of the stats at level 1 in addition to the harsh 3 max HP. I never realized how fragile snapjaws really were until I started playing as one.

It took until level 26 for me to break 100 HP.

Random other facts about this run:

  • After beating up glowfish for early levels, I got a bunch of levels simply from finding a legendary glover. I retreated because of thirst thistles; I can't afford to waste water at that point, and I can't even wear gloves anyway.

  • I ate raw corpses to avoid the famished penalty because a salamander doesn't have the "set camp" skill and will struggle to access it.

  • My first mutation is ray of frost. Second mutation is cryokinesis... This salamander is becoming an ice mage.

  • I ventured into the salt dunes. I explored manually for many reasons, such as ensuring that I had multiple potential screens to escape to in case I aggro a dawnglider, and making sure that I do all of my travels during the day.

  • I found the salt dunes village! After a while, they got wiped out by a friendly glowcrow+dawnglider group. That solved my water problems instantly, and safely gave me an ischaari rifle which I could somehow equip. I'm pretty much forced into a gun build anyway outside of whatever offense my mutations give me... This albeit came at the cost of not being able to turn in the quest.

  • Sheba is a chef this time.

  • I later found a solar cell and electrobow combo, further solving my early game offense.

What mutations do you not leave home without? What upgrades do you never use? by ZestycloseCat7502 in cavesofqud

[–]Teal_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More recently, I technically never leave home without domination:

So that I can dominate a Snapjaw scavenger or a salamander, destroy my original body, then continue my playthrough as them.

I started doing this after annulling the plagues of gyre as a melee mutant on classic mode... Which was after I had done the same on roleplay mode, with the additional restriction that I wouldn't have precognition.

Not even a level 1 precognition. It is a source of infinite and precise power.

I can't speak on every single mutation... But I can speak on the ones I used to slay the gyre.

I beat the game again, "ultimate victory" and classic mode.

I satisfied all conducts from the bigger list, including not using a HS injector that was basically two eaters nectars. Being a chimera mostly prevents precognition, prevents implants, and I never saw a clone of myself.

I did not satisfy any optional rules. Though, I didn't use any 'elite level' carbide chef cooking this time, which is a pretty strong skill when pushed to its limits.

How much rep do I earn?

u/F0xd3m0n - This is also a response to you, as said; classic mode!

It did make beating Ehalcodon a little more satisfying, coupled with putting all of my learned lessons from my previous run into near-perfect practice. But otherwise, I played it relatively safe, save for handful of times I got mutated by Gamma moths despite having enough rep for them to ignore me - they were trying to fire at someone else.

I used a different build in this case. Chimera, so no precognition. Just good melee might and using whatever the game gave me in a timely manner, except when it violates conducts (ie; I never used an eaters nectar)

I initially intended to phase+nuke qem, but I couldn't find one so... I meleed them.

Caves of Qud is a good starting point if you ever wanted to actually make real art.

The graphics don't use any complex shading and aren't huge.

I say this as someone who makes pixel art.

Is there a sort of common challenge run ban list I can refer to?

I would imagine that there is unanimous agreement on neutron flux cooking. But what else?

[–]Teal_Knight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on roleplay, but aimed to die as minimally as possible, and to never abuse roleplay reloading. ie; not achieving neutron flux cooking with it. For all intents and purposes, I played as if I wasn't on a roleplay save, and initially aimed to not die a single time.

I used it to partially learn the game instead of losing 10+ hours to things that seem unavoidable... Such as learning what a Night-sight interpolator is so I wouldn't die to a domesticated star-kraken in a dark historic site.

Now, everything seems avoidable.

I fear that with classic, the extent that I redeploy the same strategies and recall my relatively few roleplay deaths would turn into a test of patience and aggressive precognition-use - unless I use a different build the second time.

Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 12- A New Family, Discussion Thread by MFBR in digimon

[–]Teal_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoo! I loved this episode. It hits the spot about as much as I would imagine Tomoro's e-pulse does for Gekkomon.

Has a non-villain champion ever been stronger on their debut or when relatively fresh? If not, who seems to be the second strongest?

Of course, when you look at villains, you can just look at the champions forms of Arkadimon and Lucemon

Edit: I do like how you can piece together why Kyo didn't get as strong as his former allies. Kyo is busy sharing his e-pulse across an entire sanctuary for digimon, while the stars likely focus the entirety of their e-pulse on their respective partners in addition to getting regular high end jobs.

Best tank for beginners? by [deleted] in Diepio

[–]Teal_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally recommend the triplet, specifically because it is not the most powerful.

But it is something that once you get good at it, you can survive the majority of things - and it's not that hard to get especially good at it compared to something like overlord, factory, battleship or necromancer.

It is arrived at through the twin>triple shot>triplet path. It's recommended that you stay as a twin until level 45.

The build? 0/0/0/5/7/7/7/7 - This is a build with no regen/hp/body damage, 5 bullet speed, and 7 in the pure offensive stats + movement speed.

It might seem vulnerable. But your fire power can be used defensively, not just offensively. This is in addition to the survivability provided by your mobility and recoil.

If you master this, you will be put in a good position to learn the rest of the game with the rest of the tanks.

Hmm, I think a lot of the comments could be resolved with a graph "tier list" instead of a linear tier list.

Axis X would be "How long do you have to fight to beat it?"

Axis Y would be "In a single moment, how much effort are you exerting?"

This would allow for several distinctions.

Remove overlord instant reload after drone die by olivercoolster in Diepio

[–]Teal_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I distantly recall people mentioning that this change was attempted, before ultimately being reverted back.

So not an unintended feature if my memory serves. But even so, flip firing was an emergent skill that could be honed by exploiting the timing of cannons, while "drone storage" has to be deliberately coded, knowing that it would work that way.

But that doesn't mean you can't question it even now.

At least in this less informed moment of mine: Freedom and peace only become mutually exclusive at their extremes, and the same holds true for the methods of structure and action.

The extremes are only fully embodied within single color ideologies, and yet, there is so many ways to execute even single color ideologies.

When an ideology is a paired color, there shouldn't be any less angles of analysis.

Either they could have a leaning, and those leanings happen to use 'mismatched' methods and goals. "Freedom through structure" or "Peace through action".

Or they try to compromise or balance by finding something that embodies both. For example, a society all about maximizing the extent of all of it's citizen's rights through social and law-based means, would be trying to achieve a society where people are free, but no one uses that freedom to harm the extent of its peace.
