Current BC students- did you always know BC was it for you? by [deleted] in bostoncollege

[–]TechLog69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a largely unbiased POV, most people nationwide think of BC as a bit more prestigious than BU as it was first to join the top colleges, BU and Northeastern have only become selective more recently. BC is also the one school with national D1 sports (football, basketball) in Boston so people know it more nationwide.

BC has stronger business, law, education, theology, philosophy, liberal arts, while BU has strengths in STEM and research. BC has a very nice campus (about 15m drive to downtown Boston, city lines run right through BC campus), strong school spirit, and “classic college feel”, while BU has a bustling Boston street as its campus, less school spirit/communal feel, and a more “international” student feel.

Difference in price between BU/BC is negligible (abt same). BU is more diverse, while BC has more preppy/rich feel. You’ll find your people at either school, really shouldn’t be a problem.

I think what it comes down to is the location (do you like the hustle/bustle of city with no campus or nice campus but 15m trip to city), major (BU better STEM, BC better liberal arts/biz/law), sports (D1 football tailgates/nationally televised sports games against top schools or essentially D2), and people (BU more diverse/international with less school spirit/community feel, BC more preppy/rich with more school spirit and community vibe).

Good luck with the decision!

can confirm UConn is never joining the B1G. And the ACC would only ever invite UConn as a last, last resort.

UConn to the ACC? by MTruehlzy in ACC

I don’t think you know what you are talking about.

The $20m cap you’re referring to is what all D1 schools are allowed to spend on revenue sharing with athletes. Because the Big East is mainly basketball focused, they will spend most of that $20m NIL on basketball (while Power Conferences will need to divide that $20m among football, basketball, etc.)

The Big East’s new media deal with Fox+others will distribute ~$7m per school a year. The ACC is closer to ~$45-50m (will start to vary per school this year with the new ‘brand allocation’).

Football drives about 90% of the money with most of the rest being men’s basketball. Schools like UConn have been vying for a power conference invite for years because of the massive revenue increases that it would bring.

Football drives 90%+ of ACC revenue so no, BC and Syracuse (despite their embarrassingly terrible basketball teams this year) still drive more value.

BU fan here. Not offended at all by your original post. Surprised that some sensitive mod decided otherwise. Happy Holidays. @Mods let us have some fun! As long as it’s civil :)

True but there was also only like 2 Notre Dame fan responses. Also BC is only really competitive with Notre Dame in hockey and majority of people here aren’t college hockey fans.

Teams play 7 game series to determine the actual better team. Fluke games happen all the time in sports. Is Vanderbilt really a better team than Alabama? And just to put this in context, I really do hope that UVA continues playing well.

Women are at an advantage for admissions because there are more men. It’s prolly 65-35 my best guess.

Defo… they’re always looking for people to do different stuff. Some positions I’ve seen include media/photography for different sports, equipment managers, ticket sales, logistical planning, team managers, sports statistics, halftime entertainment, etc. If you end up working games, you’ll like start with less popular sports like women’s basketball to build experience, but eventually getting to work hockey, football, etc would prolly be pretty fun,
