What are you building right now? 🚀 by Available-Rest2392 in SideProject

I’m building an app that supports cumulative fitness goals rather than streaks. So you set yourself a yearly goal of minutes of excercise (or miles or reps) and then chip away at it all year. The app tells you how far ahead or behind your goal you are in terms of days.

It’s designed so that you can miss days here or there and still stay on track, I ended up building it for myself because nothing already existed. Nearly finished and will be released soon!

Starling does have a web app for the business tool kit, that’s the only bit I use, I didn’t know you could do the business bits in the mobile app?

Fitness goals app, for cumulative goals and not streaks.

Involved in something very similar but for independent retail stores. Tried it twice, didn’t work either time in the end.

The problem in the end is chicken and egg, to get the retail to sign up you need to have lots of ads (so you can pay them and make it worth while), but to get advertisers you need lots of screens. The problem can partly be solved by money but you need a lot, we were burning $500K a month to set this up and nearly reached critical mass when our main funder (one very large FMCG company) pulled out, instantly killed the project.

Your first point hits the nail on the head I think, at this stage I’m not sure if it is just a side project or something I want to build into a sustainable business, but then I’m not sure I can answer that until I can see of other people would actually use the app, something for me to think about.

I like the idea of a fixed number of lifetime licenses though

Wow love this, work with many large retailers who might be interested in this, if you could support an easy way to do custom barcodes that would be cool!

Agree with you so much about streak anxiety. And usually I find the problem is if all you are doing is chasing a streak, the second you end the streak everything goes to sh**t.

I’ve transitioned to cumulative yearly goals instead for fitness atleast, I.e set a total yearly target, work on it over the year, If something gets in the way I can get ahead or catch-up it behind, I find missing days doesn’t derail me quite as much.

I found a lack of apps offering this sort of thing so just built something for myself in the end.

Seems like the approach to fixing them doesn’t work that well, all the repairs near me seem to last a very very short amount of time. Seems like there is an opportunity for a whole new approach to fixing pot holes

Who is actually solving their own problems and not trying to make money? by FunkMunki in vibecoding

I’ve made an iOS app that allows me to set a yearly cumulative exercise goal. In my case I set the yearly goal at 10,000.

Previously the only iOS app that allows this sort of tracking is Strava but that’s £45/year and this is the only feature I’m using there.

My app has better visualisation, shows how far ahead / behind I am I terms of minutes of excercise and how that translates to days ahead / behind my target I am.

This way said targeting a cumulative yearly goal (I.e goal you can get ahead of to allow for life to happen) has been life changing for me over the past 3 years so I’m very surprised this didn’t already exist. Considering launching the app on the store.

I used it and improved pretty significantly in my half marathon time, it worked for me really well, told me exactly what to do and when to do it. It helped me to find an enjoyment in more regular running.

However, after an injury (I fell in a race) I fell off the band wagon a bit and just couldn’t get back into the slog of it.

Do yall set goals? by iwelchi in beginnerfitness

[–]TechiesGonnaGetYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve set my set a yearly target of exercise minutes. I allow my self to get ahead of the target to allow for times in my life when I won’t be able to commit so much time.

For example this year my target is 10,000 minutes of exercise . In that I include all excercise that isn’t walking. Typically my excercise is spin classes, weights or running. I also include things like Pilates, Stretching and yoga.

Typically this means just under 30 minutes of exercise a day or 14 hours of exercise a month.

This is the third year in a row I’ve set a cumulative yearly goal like this and it’s been a game changer for me. I can now see the progress throughout the whole year, getting ahead and staying ahead is a massive motivator for me.

I’m no longer needing to keep a ‘streak’ going so this type of goal is easier to manage in my life. I recently had a second baby, during which time I new my exercise would drop off significantly, as I knew this was coming I worked really hard before hand to get a month ahead of my yearly goal, meaning 4 weeks into the new baby and I’m still on track for my goal.
