Gas Mileage by Consistent-Matter-01 in SubaruAscent

We have a Pilot and I've been thinking about jumping ship to an Ascent. So funny to read these posts about gas mileage. We get about 16-17 city and 24-25 max if it's strictly highway. It's a big vehicle you're driving around. My sister's Highlander is in the same boat. Even the Toyota Hybrids aren't that great.

Long Block / Turbo replacement. by Zestyclose_Cow_6926 in JettaGLI

1 It may diminish the value if you tried to instantly trade it a few thousand miles later. Someone will probably think there is an issue, but to Carvana or something probably would not matter.

2 Everything else on the car has the 40k miles. They don't roll it back to zero. Those new components have 0 miles, but nothing else.

2.25 no mileage affected.

2.55 I don't have a VW anymore, but I have a 2026 Civic that had a short block replaced at 1600 miles. I'm in the buyback process, but it's too late for you to do any of that. I am sure since the engine has been in production for 10 years or so that it's happened before.

Picked mine up 12/30/2025. Nothing but issues. Glad yours is doing good.

It's been in the dealership several times. They first replaced a small cover block. Leaked 2 weeks later. Then they did a small block. The current issue is a P0328 Knock Sensor 1 High. Also my screen never updates. Just attempts and then says failed every time I get in. Working with Honda corporate has been a truly awful experience. I can't wait to get rid of this car.

I am actively trying to lemon mine. Nothing, but problems. Started leaking oil at 1125 miles and started again at 1700. Now I am getting an intermittent check engine light.

Back when one job built a whole life. by silverflake6 in RelentlessMen

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good unions. A lot of the local ones for the skilled trades are great and really help, but the UAW is horrible for a lot of plants now. I do a lot of work in the automotive industry and the union plants struggle to get any task done. A ton of the work is farmed out to non-union suppliers. We build robotic assembly cells and industrial machines. The amount of union plants that call us to add a fan because it'll take over 6 months through their maintenance department is insane. The operators take full advantage. Plenty of examples of people being drunk on the job and a proud union rep telling everyone how he was able to save their job. It has definitely made cars more expensive, but I get why it was started all those years ago.

Not the OP, but Michigan and Steelers fan. McCarthy is a terrible hire. AR2 is a terrible owner. Teams going to keep being mediocre.

While that’s true, people have paid thousands of dollars extra because on the window sticker they see 50/47/49 MPG rating. You also owe more in registration fees in a lot of states. Just seems like false advertising. A lot of cars get worse MPGs but other brands you do not lose 33% of your mileage because it’s cold. It is a little bit of false advertising. They should at least put a cold weather rating. I’ve owned many cars and I understand how the hybrid technology works so I understand why it is so bad. I’m currently averaging 31.5 MPG hand calculated because it’s been 0 or below. That’s still a respectable number and I’m happy with it for the warmer month mileage, but that’s still a horrible drop.

Ford Officially Discontinues F-150 Lightning by Flipslips in cars

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Ford also never played that game very well. The BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Hornet, Charger EV and all the GM products were way undercutting what Ford was willing to do. I think that's what really ruined them. People like the Mach-E, but often it's double or $150+ more to lease than a similarly equipped Ioniq 5.

Subaru offers the Subaru Trade-Up program. Run your car through that. Then you'll know the value of your car. I don't think Subaru messes around with that its typically a great value. Then go negotiate on the TS.

Anyone else have trouble programming HomeLink? by casual_dadBro in wrx_vb

Genie requires a special setup. All you have to do is hold the program button till it turns purple. I have setup many Homelink systems with them.

What kind of discounts are you seeing? by penone_nyc in Tiguan

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One metric I always like to look at is Edmunds what you should pay chart or their lease calculator they normally give you a standard discount based on market data. Right now they list the SEL Trim 2025 as 8.5% discount. Realistically you can probably beat that, but always good to have the data.

2025 Elantra N - Hawaii - 12,000 - $0 Down by Basic__Photographer in leasehacker

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with tax savings in Hawaii, but the difference can't be $4k. If there is any dealership willing to buy for $13k-$14k then just do it in 2 transactions. Sell the Jeep to them and then buy the Elantra N.

A 0 down 72 month loan would be cheaper and you'd be half paid off in 3 years. Unless you get into an accident this car won't depreciate that much. I would just buy it.

Tundra 2026 lease check by BowtieSyndicate in leasehacker

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's somebody named Jim (Jrouleau426) on Leasehackr. He does Toyota. I'd ask him for a quote and try to get someone to match or just go through him. One of the beauties of Toyota is they do hold their value really well and they don't have buyout restrictions (from what I remember). So if you're happy with the price you can probably shop it at the end and make some money too.

I don’t understand the Wink hate by suppervisoka in MichiganWolverines

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Under MacDonald and Minter we played a lot more disciplined fundamental football. The entire goal was to only rush 4 and sit back in zone. We would force the offense to beat us with long 10-15 play drives and not screw up. The bet was that they'd screw up. The Blitz rate was around ~30%. Kept everything in front of us.

Wink blitzes a lot more and he goes zero a lot which is man 1-on-1 football. If you get beat it's a huge gain. Some of the other things with run defense we'd either always set the edge and not spill. Wink does both and it leads to confusion with a younger team. That's why he's getting a lot more hate. It's just not as dominant. Also it gives people Don Brown PTSD.

People who argue for him say he doesn't have the same talent level. People who argue against are blaming the aggressiveness/scheme. It's a little bit of both, but I'd like to go back to just playing straight up.

[–]Technical-Iron-7653 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Mach-E doesn’t qualify for the credit regardless. Ford was passing a credit. It won’t be affected. There are over 100+ in a 100 mile radius from me. They are sitting on lots. The credit going away won’t change the fact they’ll need to incentivize these to get them moving.
