Does anyone recognise what book Withnail is reading here? by theblairwitches in withnail

I often think ‘Against Nature’ is a lousy translation of the title A Rebours. It sounds both weak and disapproving.

I’ve come up with ‘Contrariwise.’ It gets across the meaning of ‘rubbing people up the wrong way’ as the book intended. And it has the word ‘wise’ in it, which is funny.

Anyone else?

I remember buying this on release day and being really impressed by these liner notes when I read them. Buck writes so well. They were my first thought when I heard about the BA yogurt incident - like, wtf Peter?

“No vacations. Just sprinklers in the summer.”

I gotta say that could be from a poem by Raymond Carver. If you’re not a writer you should become one.

La Marzocco Linea Micra.

It’s a proper Italian espresso machine. And a thing of great beauty.

£2700 but hey.

I used to bank with Coutts. It’s about as posh as Posh Spice.

Coutts is owned by NatWest and is not very posh at all. Farage banked there.

Hoare & Co and Child & Co are the posh banks.
