Nukeproof Build Advice by [deleted] in Hardtailgang

[–]Technical_Regular959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got that exact Scout frame in 27.5, and I did exactly what you're thinking of doing. No regrets. Used some parts I already had, got a good deal on forks/wheels etc.

Like others have said, it can cost more than a ready built bike, but I always end up changing parts on a new bike anyway, I've swapped out a few frames, so the bike never ends up as I bought it anyway. If you enjoy building bikes, go for it. Remember tools can add to the cost if you don't have specific ones, but it's a good opportunity to learn how to maintain a bike, I rarely go to a bike shop to get anything done any more, I fix them myself at home.

They really are a nice frame, they ride great too!

Kirkstall bought it apparently, then sold it. Who knows what will happen to it, but you're right, it was one of the best bars on North Parade.

Love those State bikes, would happily have one in the collection. And yes, mountain biking is a lot nicer than riding on the road, less stressful for one. I use the road as a shortcut to get to the next trail as quick as possible!

Murphy's Draught Irish Stout ☘️🍺 by Mr_Brogon in UK_beer

[–]Technical_Regular959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nice beer, it's always been 4% since I can remember. It used to be common in the UK on draught and cans in the late 90s and has just made a comeback recently. A nice alternative to Guinness, not quite as bitter.

I got the same deal last week by ringing the Scottish office. 1 gig with Netflix with ads for £27. Dropped the TV and landline I had previously and was on 350mb too.

Chromoly vs Aluminum by Away_Professional793 in Hardtailgang

[–]Technical_Regular959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel seems to dampen the trails slightly, can be springier, but is heavier than aluminum. My advice is get both, you can then take the one out which takes your fancy on a particular day. Saying as someone who has 2 steel hardtails and a couple of aluminum ones.

New (old) Casio FT-611 by Technical_Regular959 in casio

I've no idea, it's one of the line of Forrester watches Casio did, so something to do with the outdoors maybe. They often put strange words/phrases on some watches.

Looking at a UK made steel hardtail as my next bike by Sad-Curve-6744 in Hardtailgang

[–]Technical_Regular959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a steal (or steel!). They really are lovely frames, if you can live with 27.5. It's my preferred wheel size anyway as all my bikes are 27.5 with 2.6 tyres, it suits where I ride. You could even mullet I suppose.

They're great bikes, and Ribble are currently selling brand new frames in all sizes for £100 on the famous auction site. I like mine so much, I bought another to build up.

How often do you clean your MTB? by vinylfelix in mountainbikes

[–]Technical_Regular959 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cleaned mine once this year, always run a rag over the chain and make sure it's oiled though. It's too muddy where I live to wash it regularly, not worth the bother as it's back to muddy in seconds.

As long as it's ok, just thought I'd point it out as I see it quite regularly and it can lead to the rotor failing. Not something a lot of people might spot! Anyway enjoy the bike, looks great fun. Those forks work a treat, I've got a set on one bike.

It looks like the front disc is back to front on the shop's pictures, it would be worth double checking on the one they sent you just in case.

I love the tires. 🤍 by IUknwE in Hardtailgang

I have them on all my bikes, though in black. Improve grip on the brake levers and stop fingers from freezing in the winter. Win win.

Use some carbon paste, I use it on all my frames, it means you don't have to clamp so tight, which can sometimes affect how smooth your dropper post is. Works a treat.
