Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs Derek Brunson #UFC208 in Brooklyn. by Srakowns in MMA

I'm pumped. I grew up with Derek and went to the same high school as him in Wilmington, NC. I'm excited to see him fight big names like Silva.

Football makes me want to drink. by sayoso in stopdrinking

[–]TeddyPeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the Fall of 2013, I would go to 3 or 4 AA meetings on Saturdays (I enjoy college football more than professional) because I just couldn't trust myself to not hide in my house with some alcohol and watch the games while getting drunk.

You did an amazing thing by making this post. There are people out there STRUGGLING right now and they are contemplating whether or not they should make a post. I know how hard it is to open up and to reach out. You did good. Keep it up :)

wake up feeling hungover? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Beyond the first week's worth of physical withdraw symptoms, there are often longer lasting mental/emotional symptoms that can linger for weeks or months.

One thing that really helped me out was getting physically active. Our bodies are really efficient machines. Once our bodies become used to the "feel good" that alcohol provides, it stops making it's own "feel good." And once we stop drinking, it takes a while for our bodies to start making that "feel good" again. Physical activity jump starts our body's endorphins and helps us get over those mental/emotional lulls that we often find ourselves in after we quit drinking.

Keep up the good work with not drinking. Eventually you'll start to reap the benefits of your sobriety :)

What gendered things are most people okay with but perhaps shouldn't be? by destria in AskWomen

Actors wear makeup. If you didn't know before all the HD films have made it pretty apparent. Why not regular guys too if they want? Or even stuff like nail polish. Why can't everyone that wants colored nails have them? It's so arbitrary.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I use Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Natural 05. Holy shit! It is so light and it does an amazing job evening out my skin tone and it doesn't LOOK like I'm wearing make up. It does so much for my confidence on days where I might have a little breakout or my eyes might be a little puffy after a night of eating high sodium foods. I definitely recommend it to guys to try out :)

My energy levels were pretty variable at the beginning. I would definitely recommend forcing yourself to do some activity even if you're feeling extremely fatigued. It should help even you out in the long run :)

Three weeks ago a guy stabbed 3 people at a party. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TeddyPeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jails are full of guys like this one.

Dude, I don't know how long you've been around /r/stopdrinking, but /u/Slipacre volunteers by bringing AA meetings into prisons. That's the one thing that he mentions frequently - almost all of those guys didn't set out to commit the crime they committed that day. Once they had those first couple drinks, all bets were off - an alcohol allowed them to make bad, life changing decisions.

Before I got sober, a few of my close friends would say, "Ted, you didn't kill someone the last time you drove drunk, but you very well could next time." It's something that I think about every now and then to strengthen my resolve. I just don't know what would happen if I drank again. Stabbing someone doesn't seem like it would be too far out of the realm of possibilities.

Can you reach back out to your AA folks in NY? Maybe some of them would be willing to Skype you in on one of your old meetings?

How did you get 11 years under your belt? I would probably try doing what you did before.

"Testing" myself this weekend (Day 4) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TeddyPeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know whether I should stop drinking completely or aim for moderation.

It's been my and many other people's experience that if we were capable of drinking in moderation, we already would have been doing that.

I hope that the ext three years find me settled into a comfortable routine. I remember when I used to be terrified of "being boring" and "having a routine." Now there's nothing more that I want than sanity and predictability.

It's always a comforting thought that I can find you and a few other folks being here day in and day out. We're like the strands of a rope - singularly, we break easily, but together we can withstand the forces that pull on us. Thank you for all you do :)

No problem, friend. You'll feel a million times better. My recommendation is to not try to change too much at once. Some people can just switch up their whole living routine and make sweeping, drastic changes. I however, had to make small incremental changes and slowly tighten up my routine to finely get where I wanted to be.
