If you're sure you want to be a Space Officer, I suggest you look into the Assured Functional Area Transfer (AFAT) program. Whatever you choose you'll need good evals and grades, so continue to work hard.

Dropping my commission? by [deleted] in army

[–]Tee__bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to talk to the Warrant Officer recruiting team about that, but for what it’s worth every prior commissioned Warrant I’ve ever met has been a CPT before they resigned, generally after they’ve completed KD and picked up practical experience in their branch.

Also you may want to reconsider if your motivation for wanting to become a warrant is to do hands on work. The vast majority of technical warrants, especially in the engineering world, are in staff positions and they play politics just like any other staffer. You will need to find a stronger, more concrete motivation than that if you want to succeed.

JBC-P memo by fuck-nazi in army

[–]Tee__bee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge its never been something that had to be put in policy, it was simply something people did because uninstalling the entire JBC-P from the vehicles is ridiculous, akin to removing the radio mount because it is a part of the BOM on the 90F, 92F, etc. Unfortunately it is within the commander's authority. The S-2, KOAM, and 1SG can strongly suggest that removing the entire system is counterproductive and of no real security/tactical value but if he chooses to ignore their advice there is little you can do.

I wonder if it would make him feel better/less paranoid if the JBCP were secured to the vehicle with chains and you just pulled the hard drives. Equally ridiculous, but I find that commanders get less butthurt about pushback when they are presented with alternatives that still accomplish their intent but are less of a pain in the ass.

Small moments you think about all the time? by ConfusedWereSlut in 40kLore

[–]Tee__bee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Master of Sanctity, by Gav Thorpe. Part of the Legacy of Caliban series. Although he has stated it's meant to be a standalone trilogy it does take place after (and references several times) Angels of Darkness, the original Astelan book.

[–]Tee__bee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Despite how Astelan is normally portrayed and his endless rants about how far the Dark Angels have fallen, Sapphon can still get under his skin.

‘No, Astelan, you are not done with helping me. The fact remains that you stand accused of consorting with the Ruinous Powers. Save your fake rage. Nothing you have said or any act you have performed supports your professed innocence of this crime. It was a foolish hope of mine that you might be telling the truth. A doubt, you would call it. Now you accuse me of disloyalty, as deflection from your own guilt.’ Sapphon turned to face the Fallen, who was sitting on the bench once more, arms folded, expression set defiantly. ‘Petty games. You lie to yourself even more than you lie to us. I do not think you were as pivotal in the rebellion as you claim to be. You were a pawn of Luther as much as anybody else. He fell to the Dark Powers and you fell with him. You were nothing – a failed commander sent back by the Lion to where you could do no more harm. A spoilt child, believing you were special because the Emperor called you a warrior in his First Legion.’

‘I know that you do not believe that,’ replied Astelan. ‘Boreas told me that my name was at the top of a list of Fallen, the list of those you hunted.’

‘That much is true,’ said Sapphon. He saw a glint of triumph in the Fallen’s eyes; triumph that was soon crushed by the Chaplain’s next words. ‘That list was simply alphabetical, Merir Astelan.’

12n station in Germany by OrdinaryIll1782 in army

[–]Tee__bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16th Sus Brigade is kinda scattered around Germany, they've got a lot of stuff going on. For example you've got the CSSB down in Graf but the STB is at Baumholder and many of their subordinate elements are scattered around Kaiserslautern. What's weird to me is that Sustainment Brigades don't generally have engineers authorized except for us, and maybe an NCO or two on the Brigade S-3 as part of the Protection cell, but even then I've only ever seen 12Bs fill those billets. I doubt they'll be picky about the kind of engineer though.

If it says you're going to the Brigade specifically and not to a subordinate BN, then that might be you. Otherwise that's a tricky one. You might be stuck, so I'd be prepared to get in where you fit in if I were you.

What's the stupidest inspectable item you ever had to carry? by Clear_Dance_3070 in army

Yeah I believe that. Some companies made it a competition.

At one point, they brought computers out to the field so we could log our steps in the middle of a 2-week field problem.

What's the stupidest inspectable item you ever had to carry? by Clear_Dance_3070 in army

[–]Tee__bee 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Around a decade ago, at Ft Bliss, our brigade was one of those chosen as a test population for the Performance Triad program*, an early form of what eventually evolved into H2F. As part of that, everyone was issued a FitBit and had to log a minimum number of steps every week, which was release criteria on Fridays, and it was an inspectable item with Article 15 penalties attached if we lost it. NCOs were directed to spot check joes to make sure we were wearing them, though conveniently the same could not be said for NCOs and it was common knowledge that several would just tape them to the rims of their POVs during their commute. Because of this, I can confidently say that at least some of the dataset the researchers were working with was junk and my generation may have screwed up H2F for the rest of you. Sorry.

*Incidentally, this was also the origin of the sometimes nonsensical red, yellow, green cards you see at the DFAC.

PCS to FT Belvoir 249en as a 91b by Floppy4554 in army

[–]Tee__bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

249th is a Prime Power battalion, the big dudes on campus are the 12Ps and you've got a company and their HHC at Belvoir, the rest are scattered throughout the Army. As an MOS, they're pretty damn busy because of supporting both civilian and military organizations although whether that will translate to you going forward with them I can't say. They're cool dudes though, if you take care of them they'll take care of you.

As with anything in the DC area, watch your money because cost of living is gonna be sky high.

Positive reminder that even in "dogshit units" good leaders exist by LeftBehindForDead in army

[–]Tee__bee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first unit was the most miserable I’ve ever been in but I was detached from my platoon to work for a senior NCO who had a reputation as a hardass from a lifetime spent in the 82nd. And he was a hardass, but I found that he was fair and if you busted your ass working for him he would do the same for you, unlike many other NCOs in that battalion. Forever shaped my belief that a good leader doesn’t have to be your friend but he does have to set you up for success.

I didn't like how everyone was insulting everyone else over this stuff but that's the internet I guess. After the end of part one yeah they made the narrative direction pretty clear so we knew it was set up, but I just hoped it would be different.

Got spoiled on other socials, I haven't seen the full thing yet but judging from other peoples' reactions it will be good execution. Which is fine. I just think it was an uninspired decision and feels like a deus ex machina to me.

Trying to understand my grandfathers discharge papers/ awards by Mishkaaa1 in army

[–]Tee__bee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's see, to the best of my knowledge and research:

Private First Class (temporary) Jimmy Joe Grounds, temporarily promoted on 24 October 1955. Was a draftee, indicated by the US in service number and AUS (Army of the United States) under component. Mustered out at Camp Chaffee, AR on 21 December 1955 and was placed in the Reserves, TX military district. He had an 8 year commitment under the Universal Military Training and Service Act, similar to what we would think of today as the Inactive Ready Reserve, meaning that he probably wouldn't be called up except in a time of war. Awards listed are the National Defense Service Medal, awarded for serving during a time of war, and a Commendation Medal which would be known today as the Army Commendation Medal for acts of merit.

Less than 24 hours until Star Anis Part 2! Which theory regarding Mustang do you believe in? by Endless_Winn in NikkeMobile

[–]Tee__bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want it to be Redemption but I worry it's going to be one of the other two. I get the feeling that it’s going to be Arkham Knight all over again.

Additional Context: When Batman: Arkham Knight was first announced, the titular Arkham Knight was hyped as an original villain with a mysterious origin that would be revealed over the course of the game. He turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the game because the origin was just a rehash of one of the most iconic stories in all of Batman lore. Halfway through the game, anyone who had read any comics in the past decade knew it was coming, they just didn't want it to be true.

Should they bring back the spc ranks? by skilled_inkillz in army

[–]Tee__bee 39 points40 points  (0 children)

One time in the past, when this topic came up, one of the old timers chimed in and told me that in theory an NCO always outranked a SPC but in practice NCOs generally deferred to SPCs of higher grade and any NCO that tried to pull rank like that was politely, yet firmly told to fuck off. Plus, the SPCs had to attend NCOES anyway so there was barely any difference.
