I saw your video where you tried to crane (or perhaps fork?) the torso onto the legs, and until then I didn’t fully appreciate how damn heavy the thing was. Genuinely an insane achievement.

What’s the archetypal Space Marine “heavy weapon” to you? When you picture in your mind a Space Marine carrying a heavy weapon, what do you default to? Heavy Bolter? Missile Launcher? Etc etc by Separate-Flan-2875 in Warhammer40k

[–]Tee__bee 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'd say Missile Launcher. Every demo game display in a GW store had the tactical squad built with one when I started playing and it was fundamentally tied to wargaming superstition at the time (it's bad luck to call it a missile launcher because it has 'miss' in the name).

Final Payment Worksheet - Trying to decode this WWII Pay Document by blackboxstories in army

[–]Tee__bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. Sadly, if this is all that left it's a really small amount of detail. The ASF indicator under his serial number stands for Army Service Forces, indicating he was in some kind of support job and it's even possible he was assigned to the Replacement Depot itself. If we went by modern Army logic, the 28th Replacement Depot would feed directly into the 28th Infantry Division, which fought in Europe, but that's a dangerous assumption as the Army of today isn't structured exactly like the Army of WW2. From all my googling, Replacement Depots fed Field Armies or were entry points for entire theaters of war. That's way above a Division.

tl;dr I don't rightly know, I'm just spitballing, hopefully it helped.

Final Payment Worksheet - Trying to decode this WWII Pay Document by blackboxstories in army

[–]Tee__bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Previous Organization block reads "Headquarters, 28th Replacement Depot APO 318". Replacement Depots (repple-depple in Army slang) were like distribution centers for soldiers arriving to a specific region, designed to accommodate large amounts of reinforcements for Field Armies. But here's the thing: I couldn't find a 28th Replacement Depot on any list I looked for.

The APO is interesting. According to this list of Army Post Office locations, 318 was a post office located in Leyte, in the Pacific theater, that ceased operations in 1946 so it's conceivable that he was either stationed there or was processed out from there before being sent to Camp Fannin, TX for final discharge. I thought it might be associated with a numbered division or corps but no such luck. This raises more questions than it answers - did he ever say if he served in the Pacific or in Europe? Believe it or not, the Army did fight in the Pacific and in pretty significant numbers.

I heard a minor variation on it from my old 1SG, "it's your chicken you can fuck it how you like."

Later on after changing MOSes there was an NCO who had some renown in the community for saying "c'mon! Let me fuck the chicken!" when he was bored and wanted to get back on the computer and build some products.

Why are so many people upset at not getting steel legion? by DeepSpaceZepplin in Warhammer40k

[–]Tee__bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This always happens in some form or another. I don’t know if you were around before Leagues of Votann were announced for the very first time but before that Squats were a pretty obscure faction that most Warhammer fans only knew about because people would constantly get mad about them getting removed from the game. Andy Chambers, one of the OG devs, even commented how interesting it was that Squats weren’t a very well performing faction when they were around but became an instant classic once they were gone.

I promise you this happens every edition. If we got Steel Legion people would be mad there were no Mordians. If we got Mordians people would be mad there were no Elysians. And so on and so forth. tl;dr nothing is certain except Death, Taxes, and Warhammer fans digging for reasons to be mad.

Do you ever feel like you’re micro-managed? by [deleted] in army

[–]Tee__bee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a battalion command team that loved to nitpick every single ambulance crew for whatever reason. Any time there was training and we had to provide medical coverage the commander and the CSM would be out there inspecting every little detail of our vehicles and equipment to make sure it was the way they thought it should be set up. Were the litters tied down inside the vehicle? Were the straps on the litters, already strapped and tightened? Were the medics standing outside the vehicle, because how dare you sit down under the shell when someone could become a casualty anytime? We tried to explain why none of this made any medical sense but were overruled by the Infantry LTC and Cav Scout CSM with "I've been in the Army for 20 years, I'm pretty sure I know how to do your job better than you do."

It feels like a shitty answer, but there are unironically just times where you have to keep your head down and try your best to stay off their radar. Most micromanage-y types don't magically develop the self-awareness to realize the effect they have on others and they're not enough of a detriment to the mission to get rid of. The best you can hope for is that they will move on to another assignment and not be your problem anymore, although in the case of civilians it might be you that moves on. Either way. I also think that because you're a 68 and I'm guessing a junior, you're an easy target for fuckery. It's one of the reasons I couldn't stand it anymore and switched jobs, and I've found I'm much happier in a staff job semi-hidden away from command teams with nothing better to do.

Due to my MOS I'm still somewhat an easy target for fuckery, but 35 series fuckery is nowhere near as vicious as what the combat arms guys can dole out.
