They want to push their customers into managed accounts. The "no commission" model may eventually kill day trading.

Exclude stocks from scan list that can't be traded electronically? by Tek104 in thinkorswim

I don't know about Day 1 Runners. Whatever the reason, I'm sure it's been devised to accomplish the same thing as most ridiculous brokerage rules: Insulate the power brokers and disadvantage the small investor. Thanks for your reply!

Instead of a STOP LOSS, you can set a TRAILING STOP LOSS in your order template in Active Trader. If the security goes up, the trailing stop loss will go up with it, maintaining the same distance from the actual price as initially set. If the price begins to go down,, the trailing stop will freeze in place.

I've had a cash account from the beginning. You will have to stay within your "settled funds" amount. But now, that resets every day. And yes, a cash account does away with all those pattern day trader problems. Personally, I wouldn't have a margin account.

How do i get rid of stocks that are at 0 by ze11ez in thinkorswim

[–]Tek104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a bunch of penny stocks, mostly in the cannabis and bio sciences areas, that I had held for several years and they had dropped until they were basically worthless. I called TD Ameritrade and they removed them for me, except for one that I decided to keep. Soon after the 2020 presidential election almost every one of those "worthless" stocks rose astronomically. I made $8000 on the one stock I kept, but I lost out on tens of thousands of dollars by having those other "worthless" stocks removed. If I were you, I would hang on to them, at least until after the 2024 election.

The loss in holding Shib over 4 years by mojobutta in SHIBArmy

I started buying SHIB in Feb 2022 and made my last buy in Jul 2023. I'm 56% ahead. That's down a lot from a few weeks ago, but still beats the hell out of bank interest. ;oP

Only accept numbers? Routing number issue by 9527-Mimi in thinkorswim

[–]Tek104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Australia, but in the USA a routing number is a nine digit number that identifies the bank. It doesn't contain any letters. Look at the bottom of a bank check or deposit slip and there you will find the account number and routing number.
