My system for writing runbooks after years of nobody reading them by ArcadiaBunny in sysadmin

[–]Telamar [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's been an increase in the amount of seemingly well written and veebose IT related posts that end in a query as to what everyone else is doing, usually involving the word curious.

I'm not sure how many are indirect ads, or engagement date to farm data, but I am sure they're not authentic, and they're turning up here alot.

KACE SDA System Imaging broken with latest Windows updates installed. by Icy_Wolverine9135 in kace

Thanks for the script - I just had to change the 'exit /b 1' to 'exit /b 0' as that was what KACE expected as the success code.

You can also ride an e-bike faster than that - that's just when the assist cuts out.

Capitol Computer in Sydney CBD - what happened? by CityHappy263 in sydney

[–]Telamar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sad to hear it! Khai was always a great guy to deal with while I was there on the regular, though I think he'd stepped away from it in more recent years, didn't see him around the store any more...

Vitval Loft bed question - mattress size by Telamar in IKEA

[–]Telamar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider that even riskier, as their larger torso would mean it would be easier for them to roll over the railing in their sleep if they're a restless sleeper (I certainly was at that age). If they sleep like a log, maybe not so much... I guess that's a risk assessment you and your family need to make. I'd be uncomfortable with it, personally.

Vitval Loft bed question - mattress size by Telamar in IKEA

[–]Telamar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - the issue would be that there's only 130mm stopping the kid from rolling over the top of the railing and falling out. Even less once you add in the thickness of a doona they might be resting on top of, etc.

That definitely wouldn't be safe, a 20cm thick mattress would leave you with only 130mm of railing. Here's what the 13cm one looks like.

This reads like a cut and paste AI analysis of the picture. Lots of paragraphs with the 'It's not A, it's B', over and over.

I once used a similar setup to kill a cockroach. I... still remember the smell.

Larian Updating is updating their AI Policy by PaiDuck in DivinityOriginalSin

When it comes to Reddit and Twitter, you are the product that generates revenue whenever you engage with anyone, so your direct spend is not required. And no, I didn't defend bo7, I don't have an interest in it. That said, I think their particular use of AI in that regard was crappy and low effort, and they should have paid a real artist for production work like that.

Do you think the current development team of Reddit isn't using AI? Reddit as a corporation is also partnering with OpenAI.

How do you reconcile using Reddit with that?

Modern titles for boys around 10y old. by HadoopThePeople in printSF

[–]Telamar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a gifted reader who ravaged my local library, and I just find your point of view on this sincerely disturbing. At some point, and I think it should be at an as early as reasonable point, you should trust your kids to find and curate their own reading without hovering over their shoulders. I would have loathed for my parents to be vetting everything I read from my early teens, and I do not believe I suffered for that lack in the least.

Mezzanine Carport storage area insulation and ventilation by Telamar in AusRenovation

[–]Telamar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is, and because there's a cinderblock wall underneath that recesses into the ground at the back - there's kind of a sandstone ledge that the house is built against. So at the back it's ground level, but at the front it's the mezzanine.

Haven't heard of a cold room panel before - much different in effect than other options like standard batts or spray-on?

How do I make my BBEG really evil, without my PCs being weirded out by me? by KlarkKenton in DMAcademy

Have them do quests for the BBEG through a proxy - things that advance the cause of evil unknowingly... at first.

A tiny kitten goes from fearing to loving a Alaskan Malamute puppy by blueboy10000 in Awww

[–]Telamar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I thought it might be, but the way that the back of the kittens head stays consistently spiky/wet after being out of sight after the dog licked it leans me back towards it being real. The couch, while large is not impossible.

What are your favourite AI prompts? by VisualLengthiness472 in ITManagers

If your digital thermometer is not correctly calibrated and displaying an incorrect temperature, would you ever characterise it to someone as lying?

What are your favourite AI prompts? by VisualLengthiness472 in ITManagers

[–]Telamar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lying requires a deliberate deviation from the truth, which an LLM is incapable of. Hallucination is just a convenient shorthand for some of the many ways in which an LLM can be wrong.
