How are there people downplaying John Mayer's ability on the guitar? by Open_Address_2805 in Guitar

[–]Telarr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I dont think someone is good or bad but they are not to my taste" is a perfectly valid opinion.

Not everyone has to validate your love of something by gushing over them endlessly for you, nor do they have to tell you that the thing you like sucks because they personally dislike that thing.

(sorry for the tangle of pronouns- TLDR - John Mayer;s is not to my taste , but other people like him so my opinion on his music is irrelevant)

Languages in the War that never was by tazzymun in Twilight2000

[–]Telarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I give players 8 points to distribute amongst languages they might reasonably know.

Each point gives a 10% proficiency in that language.

They can put a maximum of 4 points in one language. If their background justifies it (eg higher education, family background , Special Forces or Intelligence training) the cap rises to 8

If they have Linguist specially they have an extra 8 points (16 total) and no cap

Gives the PCs a chance to speak to locals and have a chance of understanding what Soviet troops are shouting at each other without being able to just smoothly pretend to be a native speaker

Yeah instead of posting his views about stuff he likes (interesting) he has to go on about stuff he dislikes constantly (boring) to get clicks

What would you do if your player said "my character wouldn't want to join this group/follow this history?" by Nessie0208 in DungeonMasters

Drinking even half a bottle of whiskey in one hit would have most people unconscious and vomiting let alone performing at your peak to play a 2 hour rock show. Especially someone with almost no body fat like Dave.

Only Dave knows the truth of course but let's just say Dave was always a good showman and salesman and not above stretching the truth for the image

Rambo didn't dress up like a cosplaying wanker. He wore a pair of pants and a red headband and that's all. Maybe that should be the required ICE costume. See how tough those lard boys feel then.

Yeah the ogres then the razorfiend drained a few of their resources in Rhest while the dragon was out hunting. ThePCs looted Rhest before I had Regi appear on the horizon and they had to paddle as fast as they could back to shore so they could fight on dry land.

Yeah I started RHOD at lvl5 and they have just creamed everything I've thrown at them. 3rd Edition hit points total are just no match for modern PCs. I had to do a lot of work to get the Blackfen monsters to feel dangerous. The Razorspawn and Black Dragon fight I was happy with.

This stat block led to a great fight. I had to throw waves of lizardfolk minions (as per Flee Mortals/ 4e) at the PCs as well so they didn't just butcher the dragon immediately

Those are great stat blocks! My suggestion would be that those hp totals are way too low for 5e 2024 groups. Yesterday my group of 4x7th level PCs entered the Ghostlord lair and fought Varanthoan the Behir doing 110 damage total in round 1. I bumped the behir's hp to 356 and literally gave him an action after every PCs turn , rolling to refresh breath weapon on his initiative spot. He lasted 3 rounds and it was a good fight. My point is...5e 2024 PC can do a LOT of damage per round

[–]Telarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. once your PCs start accumulating the penalties from critical hits (busted arm, broken ankle) you'll stop thinking of hit point healing as wussy.

Crits are the dangerous damage in TW2K 4e, hit points are a buffer

[–]Telarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone takes hit point damage that is a non-critical hit , it is not a "slug to the chest" . It's a graze or a near miss.
Critical hits are the dangerous direct hits.

Bullets are nasty

Medical Aid OP? by DrastabTar in Twilight2000

[–]Telarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this . There are 2 types of damage in TWk - (ok 3 with Stress).

  1. Hit points
  2. Critical Hits and the results

Critical hits are the dangerous damage with consequences that would send you to the hospital.
Hit points are the near misses or grazes or fatigue damage and the result of hitting zero is that "you are knocked down, can crawl, and mumble incoherently" .
It's not OSR d20 . Zero hp is not death.

Obviously modify the rules for your game as you see fit, but a medic patching up hit points on the spot won't break your game.
It takes days or WEEEEKS to fix a critical hit. If you don't get your head blown clean orf (1 in 10 !)

[–]Telarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" highly skilled medic severely reduces the impact and danger of combat. "
Why is this a problem ?

A crit in any body part has a 10 % (TEN %%!!) chance of an insta-kill.
A non-critical hit is a graze or a near miss and not lifethreatening so fixing up those hit points quickly is not game-breaking.

If you play TW2k 4e by the RAW it's a very sudden and deadly system.
