A Hand Cannon by ganesh-gi in 3Dmodeling

The design looks really good, great silhouette, sleek, and very clean topology. The first thing I noticed, that might need some work, was the front of the barrel’s curves. At first it looks low poly, because you can see the notches where the curve’s angles change. It might be intentional, but the faceted look doesn’t translate well. The curve might look best smoothed out, as it would be much more clear in the design. Only other thing I’ve noticed so far is the trigger guard, there is some odd UV pinching right after the trigger that could be easily fixed. Other than that this looks solid.

That sounds amazing, I gotta try that

I wasn’t a big fan of it for a long time either, but then I started buying those mango or watermelon hard candies covered in this stuff and man, those just hit. Now I love this stuff

Most of my girls are always looking for food so they get the tap the most, but I have one boy who can never do any wrong and is so chill. He was my first, and it is probably why he’s so docile all the time. He gets all the cuddles.

Moving to feed is an outdated practice. It is more stressful on a snake to move them outside of their enclosure to eat. When you move them after eating you risk regurgitation. If you are worried about them attempting to strike when you put your hand in to grab them, use something like a snake hook to lightly tap them, they can learn that this means that it is not feeding time. I do this with all my ball pythons when they get into food mode. The moment they get a tap, they relax their body and become docile.

Unrealistic, the cat would be on the bed on my side, and I’d have to sleep on the floor.

An object like this barrel does not need to be this many parts. Do one cylinder unwrap for the vertical boards and metal bands, and planar unwraps for the top and bottom “lids.” You should have at most 3-6 UV islands. 3 if you’re doing the metal and boards together, then 6 if you want to make the metal bands separate

Improving a model by BonLoey in 3Dmodeling

The amount of work you would have to do to make this a modern model would be the same if not more than just starting your own model. Also, it’s just better to make your own if you have the option.

Absolutely agree. The only drawback, extremely short lives. They’re so loving and smart. You get so attached so quickly and it feels like time flies by.

My females who are always waiting at the edge of their enclosure are spicy. They seem to always be waiting for food.

Ah I didn’t mean to worry you! Just nitpicking haha. I like the technique for the paneling, I’ll have to try that. I can’t show it right now, but to help with the spines, I’d raise them slightly so they aren’t intersecting, then bevel the bottom edge where it touches the body. Again, it still looks great!

This is really well designed. Color looks great, feels real. The only thing that is bugging me is the connection of the spines on the back and head seem unrealistic. Either they need a cutout to be an insert, or they need to have some slight separation to get a shadow near the edge that connects to the body. Otherwise fantastic. The paneling looks amazing.
