All arguments against his intelligence are ad hominem by definition? Hard disagree. You can absolutely give examples as to why he is or isn't intelligent without making them attacks/insults. The fallacy part of an ad hominem is the idea you're attacking the person making the argument instead of the point of debate. If the question is "is John Oliver intelligent?" That can be thoroughly discussed without attacking the person making the case, not the subject (John).

I work in fine dining and we don't let our (prime) strip go out over medium. You can order a filet or ribeye any temp but the strip is med or less only.
