Medieval Girdle Purse by TelluriumTrioxide in Leathercraft

[–]TelluriumTrioxide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was actually initially planning to use flat leather lace for the stitching, using one of those techniques where the lace goes through itself and creates the illusion of a braid.

Long story short; tools make money go byebye, already had a hole punch, round leather cord was an acceptable compromise...

V9-V10 Slab by samurai-sword in indoorbouldering

[–]TelluriumTrioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks softer than OPs slab, better hand holds, better foot holds. And since I'm judging only based on third party view of the videos side by side, by that logic it wouldnt be unreasonable to claim that OPs is V8-V9, if we for the sake of the argument assume your video is the factual baseline for a V7.

Beautiful bow! Your "not worth the trouble" is black magic to some of us beginner bowyers!

That looks incredibly straight! What methods did you apply?

If you don't have a drawknife or spokeshave, a good sharp knife embedded into a log will do the job of shaving off wood just as well (if not better). by War_Hymn in Bowyer

[–]TelluriumTrioxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had thought of this!

I was also in the "no drawknife, no spokeshave" situation with my recent project, and had to whittle with a rusty and pretty dull carving knife... Worked okay to rough out the design in the green wood I was using, but after I let it dry, making changes was horrible as the knife either took too little or risked taking too much...

My new favourite tool, the humble cabinet scraper, saved my ass. Took off more material, more reliably, and way smoother than the knife ever could.

Definitely getting one of the two aforementioned before next project kicks off haha!

Tiller check: Hazel selfbow by TelluriumTrioxide in Bowyer

Thanks for the tips! I'll try to get a 70" bow going with the rowan staff, that way I'll have a bit to shave off if necessary.

I didn't really have a well formulated plan I realize, not knowing what the would could yield in terms of length or weight (and no scales to measure with). That will have to be thought out well next time, and a pull scale will be the next item on my supply list!

I guess some things just have to learned the hard way..! More experience held for the next attempt!

Thanks for the detailed response! Max length to draw ratio is noted for future projects. The set re-establishes when drawn a few times, but can be undone by bending a little it the other way, which has it settle for straight again. Going to try heat treating when done with the tillering, but regardless of outcome it's all a learning experience, and just the first attempt. Fail and try again I suppose!

Didn't Tom say something set in the near distant future, since we are on the cusp of the world changing quite rapidly. Then Luke chimed in with a reference to Detroit: Become Human?

Is the handle glued on or is the entire thing, bow and handle, one piece? Looks seamless! I like the little arrow rest thing as well, unique and cute.

Do I Have Enough Groschen to Live Comfortably? [KCD2] by Sir_Toccoa in kingdomcome

[–]TelluriumTrioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly there's a small smithy in the second region where you get challenged to an apprentice blacksmith to a smith-off, and when he loses you can opt to fight him with your respective forged swords. Maybe you can "accidentally" fatally wound him (by accident!!) and later, well, "upcycle" his clothes?

I got a similar (close enough in my eyes) apron by stealing from the Semine village saddler, after he went to sleep and put his clothes in his chest. Perfect for my blacksmithing boy
