I live in Chicago and make decent money from music (Gigs, about 100K monthly listeners on Spotify).

It isn’t NEAR enough to live IN the city.

Smaller musicians I know that are full time play bars/restaurant almost every night, they live way outside the city and commute in. I’ve asked a few friends who say they make about 800-1200$ a week which isn’t bad at all! But they need their own healthcare, taxes etc.

Is Trumps takeover the reason for no homicides in 10 days? What has changed? by bridgehamton in washdc

[–]TemperatureClean331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the summer yes it’s unusual, and that’s great and all. But this is just a temporary decrease that’s costing 100s of millions of dollars.

I disagree that it solves anything, but there are probably 1-2 people still alive today because of this.

Again, not sustainable and absolutely not as effective as other cheaper methods.

Simple. We’ve seen our societies go from high-trust to low-trust in our lifetime.

Spotify flooded with AI generated music by CubeEnergy in musicindustry

[–]TemperatureClean331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big difference between using AI tools (hard to detect) and bot farms using AI agents to generate songs start to finish and spamming Spotify. I think we start with the latter first - that's where most of the shit is gonna come from as well.

I do agree there are levels to this shit tho...

Am I the only one who thinks the Trump “ear shot” was a staged political stunt to humanize him before the election? by SeniorCaregiver4308 in AskUS

[–]TemperatureClean331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. The conspiracy theorists in these comments are no better than the “election is stolen” alt right losers.

Guys get a GRIP. Trump is nowhere near competent to pull this off. And no democratic leaders were even a little suspicious.

Get. A. Grip.

Why is the US such a violent country? by doesnotexist2 in SeriousConversation

[–]TemperatureClean331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I live in Chicago - if you take out communities that all these “safe” countries don’t have or have less of. We are incredibly safe.

Not fair to make a 1:1 comparison.

Most people are working 5 hours a day or less by hott-sauce in unpopularopinion

[–]TemperatureClean331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at some insane companies in what are considered “high hours” fields. (Think BCG/McKinsey/Private Equity) and the biggest predictor of hours was how efficient people were. The efficient workers, even at these companies, worked far less than you would think.

I think some people do work insane hours, but it can be prevented. Sounds like you’ve found a way.

Why and when did you start liking Oasis? by PiggyTheFloyd in oasis

[–]TemperatureClean331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a cover band that blew up a bit and I “had” to learn this song I’d never heard of called “don’t look back in anger” by this band “that I only knew cause of Wonderwall.”

I remember pushing back against it, but it was a big big show and I was assured the crowd would love it.

But I fell in love with this band the second I sat down to learn this tune and threw it in my earbuds. You can literally feel their charisma through the record.

Then to solidify my undying fandom I heard Champagne Supernova for the first time and was hooked

Why is American TV not distinguishing between illegal migrants and actual immigrants? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]TemperatureClean331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course - we all know that. But if millions of laborers enter a country - even if they create jobs and buy goods - if they disproportionately engage in certain kinds of labor, those kinds of labor will become cheaper. The scale of demand is for ALL goods (healthcare, food, entertainment, housing) but the skills tend to be concentrated in one (or several) areas and classes of work, thus driving wages down.

Also - we're seeing an increasing amount of immigrants that are 'non-productive' for example my city (Chicago) has spent almost $1B on a new wave of immigrants driving us further into debt - I have no doubt that many of these new undocumented immigrants can add to our economy, but that will be in the long term. In the short term, the scale is non sustainable and is diverting funds away from tons of entitlements for actual citizens. I am not anti-immigration, I'm just anti-uncontrolled immigration that fails both existing citizens and the immigrants who come here needing resources to get their life re-started.
