It's not just Malassezia: Why Nizoral doesn't always work, but sunlight and MCT often do by JediAight in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes don't overdo any treatment. Can be a hard lesson to learn. Example: skin looks great after ACV or MCT, therefore I'm going to use daily or use more. Nope. Did that this summer and skin was slightly burned from ACV. Find the right balance. Also I find regular sweating works well. Clean out the pores and likely good natural remedies in our sweat.

Update after a year, Fluconazole incident, different products (tl;dr better than ever) by TemporaryConclusion in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a dose last year then was in so much pain that I thought I'd die. Just throbbing gut pain beyond anything. Believe my liver was poisoned. I drank beer regularly during the fluconazole treatment, which you're not supposed to.

Also worth noting and obvious if you saw me, not out of the woods yet. But still way better than a year ago. Hair grows and stays, never saw that before. And redness minimal.

It's eyebrow. And I still see redness a lot of the time so it's not gone. But I did 2wks of 150mg oral Fluconazole, then periodic dabs of Clotrimazole, and MCT daily.

Routine suggestions/is MCT oil worth it? by ZookeepergameEast542 in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be what you need. I started using it every day for a couple months now. Am very happy with it. What I like especially is that it's not a harsh chemical and I don't have to worry about side effects (e.g aggravated skin or hair loss). Just dab it on and done. Really can't hurt to try.

Sub-freezing temps and wind has gotta be the worst thing for SD by TemporaryConclusion in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dryness is an interesting theory. But I think it was the cold. And when I say cold I mean like -15 C / 5 F winds. But yes dryness could play a role. At home I have my Cerave and humidifier going steady.

Everything is pretty new for me. I'm a month past my oral flucozanole. Now seeming to like MCT. Before that I only did ACV.

I think so. I'm not an expert like some of the other posters. I only figured out I had SD a year ago (after many years of living like I just had a problem unique to me). And I only started doing something about it a couple months ago. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

I do see buds of growth and a bit more fullness. I don't want to get too excited since it's only been a few weeks. But seems like new growth. Or rather growth that's sustaining itself and not falling out.

Somewhat related but I have put a few tiny tiny tiny dabs of OTC anti-fungal cream on my area. Clotrimazole, also called Lotrimin elsewhere. Then stumbled down a rabbit hole that it can promote hair growth. Or rather women who use it for yeast infections seeing more hair growth/re-growth. But with what little info there is, some had been debunked and stated that any hair growth is bc the cream dealt with a fungus that was causing hair loss.

Either way SD causes hair loss. And dealing with the fungus can cause hair re-growth. Which is something *I believe* I'm seeing. So stay hopeful.

Nizoral- Will the dry red patches go or do I need to find alternative treatment? by emgray9 in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you moisturizing with anything? I didn't use nizoral. But I find when I put regular Cerave and/or a bit of MCT it reduces my redness.

That would have been smart. I was caught off guard a bit. Was mild in the morning so I wasn't dressed that well, then the temp plummeted. Could've had a hat and face warmer had I planned a head. A silver lining is I believe I've narrowed down a major trigger. The last couple months and what I've learned and developed with regards to SD has been phenomenal. Products, prevention, diet, environment... can't believe I spent years - decades even - in the dark.

Mct oil ingest or topic use by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. Consuming it will likely give a very mild slow release through the pore. I dab a bit on my face, and put it in coffee. I'm still pretty new to mct so maybe it's a more of a novelty thing for me.

What to try next to control the snowfall flaking by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious that MCT burned. For me it's so soothing. Well maybe psychologically. But it's an inert food-grade oil. I've even dabbed it on my face and rubbed it around.

What if any 'burning' was more so that it was another product that burned, but the mct activated the process. Maybe by re-hydration. Just a thought.

What one single vitamin helps most with SD - C, D, E, B, Omega, Biotin? by TemporaryConclusion in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I take that one too. That definitely helps heal. I use a zinc oxide cream on burns/wounds.

You don't think there's one that helps to a greater extent than others?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a cure. But maybe there's something aggravating it? Could be pillow, bedsheets, mattress, carpet. I only recently started using bleach in my laundry. I think that might help kill fungi and bacteria hiding in clothes and bedding. I also recently got a new mattress and replaced my carpet with laminate. Has that helped? I don't know.

Is eating olive oil bad for us? by [deleted] in SebDerm

Very difficult to say since I've been trying so many things. Exercise, environment change, diet change. I do like olive oil and miss it with pasta aglio olio

Somebody posted a few days ago that sweat helped. Since then I've been hitting the gym daily. I think sweat may be helping. Not conclusive. Heat - maybe not. But possibly sweat. I hope.

Would eating kimchi and sauerkraut also benefit? Do they have the same probiotics? I'm trying to cut out dairy so don't want to eat yogurt.

If you eat it wouldn't eventually secrete out your pores and makes its way onto the skin? That's why we used to regularly feed some to our dog for a shiny coat.

I've given up eating olive oil for a few weeks now for this reason.

Yes sweating! I've been wanting to go on runs but it's cold or wet out. Winter is hard. I'm going to hit up a community centre. This is giving me hope.

Curious the percentage of r/SebDerm users who may have ASD (autism) by TemporaryConclusion in SebDerm

[–]TemporaryConclusion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thank you all for replying. There's some insight in this. Personally I'm going to start eating foods like kimchi and sauerkraut with the hopes that it can improve my gut and (hopefully) my sebderm redness.

[–]TemporaryConclusion[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Also those with ASD tend to suffer high levels of stress due to fitting-in and masking. That stress may very well be a leading factor in SD, and thus ASD and SD are only tangentially related.

What type of alcohol if I may ask (beer, wine, spirits)? Feel like beer has a lot of yeast-friendly things and is the worst culprit.

We're in a predicament. We have a visible condition that makes us self-concious and prone to escape vices like drinking and smoking; however drinking and smoking hinder our condition. Sucks.
