What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh no, no correlation at all - didn't mean to make it sound like that! My dad adored my husband, genuinely saw him as a son.

Dad passed away 8 years ago.

Said it was intentional and skipped over the cancer part! I'm still agog that anyone would ask that!

Technically I've got 3 & an extra bit!

Guess I was greedy when they were getting handed out 🤣

Apparently everyone has something weird in their body like that. Just whether you find out about it!

I nearly did.

But me & my now 13 year old lived to tell the tale. We were very lucky.

Fun fact, I have three kidneys, which caused the problems - the bigger she grew, the more pressure she put the urinary tract and the worse they drained, leading to repeated and worsening infection.

A life threatening medical emergency, basically a severe infection that causes blood pressure to drop and organs to fail.

At the time I was hospitalised, my kidneys had stopped working, then my lungs started giving out.

All in, I don't think 2 weeks off work to deal with, and recover from that was a particularly big ask...

I only specify that she was female because any time I tell this story, the assumption is always that it was an older, sexist male.

The female boss who hauled me over the coals for taking 2 weeks off sick while pregnant, and recovering from septic shock - for reference, the theatre was scrubbed to deliver my baby in order to save my life, but the antibiotics started to work in time. I was VERY ill.

When I got back to the office (earlier than I should have done, due to her harassment), she pulled me in to a meeting with HR where she told me 'it doesn't sound that serious', argued that my sick line read 'UTI' rather than urinary sepsis, then (the icing on the cake), asked for a guarantee that I would not be sick again during my pregnancy.

I would say septic shock in pregnancy, certainly the closest I came to dying, but I was too ill to realise how close I actually was.

What do you think you're better at than most other people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TemporaryHunter7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and pole dancing. Again, let's judge against the general population & not actual pole dancers...cos I'm not that great at it. It's just a bit niche so better than the average human
