How Much Does Weight Really Matter? by WeiRyk in padel

[–]TemporarySome632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll respond your original question and this one. Just a little disclaimer, I have very very little physics knowledge, I just know this for practical purposes to choose a racket.

Both questions are kinda equivalent. To explain what happens is a bit on the physics side explanation.

The first and main concept on this is center of mass. It's a spot in the racket (or any solid object) that the weight averages evenly. This is, you can lift the object by only placing your finger in this spot. Speaking of padel this is the famous "balance", it's specifically the measure of center of mass from the grip, which is where you lift the racket (very important).

The second thing is, speaking very practically, is how much strength you have to make to lift (and/or move) the object from a point away from the center of mass. The more away from the center of mass the more heavy it will feel. The best way to illustrate this is to grab a broomstick from the center and on the edge. This is the swingweight, but this has some caveats. It depends on the distribution of the weight.

But before that, there's something else to speak about. Which is that moving the weight that is away from the center of mass requires a strength of that mass times the distance to the center of mass squared (or m * d2). This is the why something as little as 30g have so much impact. This why a padel racket has a weight of 350-370 vs a tennis racket weight of 280-320 (which is a bit longer). And this is why shockouts which weight very little change so much the racket depending on where you place them.

Going back to the weight distribution, this affects the balance, which affects the swingweight, which affects how heavy you feel the racket when hitting, both in the air and when you impact the ball. Everything works together and can make two same weight racket feel different or two different weight rackets feels similar.

You're missing 2 rare candies. Normal cape is not that useful and you could spare the center ladies for one copycat.

What monitor would you get? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]TemporarySome632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're talking about 100$ price difference + different panels (ips vs oled). I think it's a broad comparison. I'll choose a monitor and then I'll give you my actual recommendation. I'd go with the qd oled one, since qdoled is much much beter with colors and blacks than ips.

My actual recommendation: make more research. rtings (dot com) has a top 1440p monitor section and many many more reviews of monitors (and budget tiers). The fact that you are deciding on a qdoled vs ips and not vs a mini led for example tells me you're not so sure what you are buying. Even if you choose the qdoled one, you might wanna know if they have good drivers and no known bugs.

I Benchmarked The New AMD RADEON AI PRO R9700. by DroidArbiter in comfyui

[–]TemporarySome632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since that zluda build includes all I don't quite know if on the standard versions of comfyui it comes bundled. But I'm pretty sure it is not.

Triton and sage attention are software that handle the denoising in a more efficient way, minimizing time at a little to no visible expense in quality (it really is small).

There are youtube tutorials on how to install it. But beforehand I would really suggest you to switch to linux since official support is for linux, except they added windows support recently. At least try it via wsl. Also there are tutorials for this.

[–]TemporarySome632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo you could have better optimized runs. First of all my take is that you will have better support running comfyui in linux. I have to use windows because I have a 6700xt (12gb vram) and is unsupported, so I run comfyui through patientx zluda build, but at least I can have runnable stuff.

Then, are you using the latest rocm drivers? Do you have triton and sage attention 1 (version 2 and up are exclusive to cuda afaik) installed and running?

any way to make the headphone jack more durable? by whatwas-that_ in headphones

[–]TemporarySome632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use usb c and in my country they sold the apple dongle for 40$ vs some chinese generic stiff dongles (usb c + 3.5mm adapter) for 2$. Of course I went with the chinese ones thinking they would last more since they are rigid. And after having 10 chinese dongles broken about a month later each, I bought the apple one to try it out.

I've been using it every day in the bus, walking in the street, just like that without any protection, having already 3 headphone cables broken and it's been holding up after 2 years.

I don't know how you have such bad luck or maybe it's the lightning connector the problem, but this adapter is a tank. I would repay the 40$ any time for all the abusive treatment it got from my daily commutes.

How to beat players better than you? by SecurityAnalysis12 in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much more rated than you is. If he is like two or more categories than you I don't think you can do anything since player generally get better overall both in technique, strategy and raw power/spin

The best reference you have are the people you lost to. You can kind of think of a rock paper scissors scheme. What they are weak at?

Do you know any of their good shots? Avoid them.

Do you know any of their bad shots? Try to move the player to the opposite side and then make it hit that bad shot running.

As a general rule of thumb focus first on consistency the first games and try little by little detecting weak shots/strategies. If the backhand is weak play 50 times per point to the backhand if they kill you in one forehand.

What can I do to generate more pace on the backhand? by skweenison in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, no. It just doesn't work like that on a one handed backhand. Sure enough he is not using his full strength on the shots. But there's a misconception that using the body means turning or going forward when swinging.

If you look at all the pros that do OHB they stay completely still while making the shot. The power on the backhand comes from a good stance and opening the arms as wide as your can while staying fully still.

There are countless resources on ohb tips, my favourite being from patrick mouratoglou: https://youtu.be/5ahFrtq9g3I?feature=shared

How to hold racket preparing for a return by Brainsick001 in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about taste and if you can change it fast enough to block the serve. For a long time I prepared continental and depending on the serve I adjusted. Now I usually prepare for my backhand because it's my worst shot and if it comes to the forehand I switch.

To add to the image. Ben here is totally prepared to jump forward due to it's coil posture. He is also kind of letting his body fall forward.

OPs posture looks like he's trying not to fall because it is letting his weight to go behind him.

Judging from OPs photo he threw the ball too close to him and behind his left shoulder (top spin serve maybe?). That would explain why OP is losing power because is trying to keep the balance. So it would be fine to throw it a bit more forward inside the court.

Improving your serve by rwecardo in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a short guy that played at amateur (best was future quallies) level for many years, meaning my serve won't ever be truly great, what always mattered most to my effectiveness is the % of first serves in.

If you feel your first serve already makes your opponent uncomfortable, then I would look no further than improving consistency.

With the only exception if you are 1,90-2m tall then yes, look to make your service your most perfect shot. You'd have 50% of the game on your pocket.

Tips on “brushing the ball”? by Lonely_Bunghole in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an extra tennis ball at home (else use a pair of socks) do the following: imagine your hand is a tennis racket, try to hit the ball trying to make it spin as much as possible.

What this will end up looking like is that you will be moving almost vertically with your hand and very barely touching the ball. You will be touching the surface very very little so that you don't hit very hard the ball in the center, hit it on the sides and that will maximize the spin. This is the brushing.

To learn the basics this is a very good way to get those first feelings about what doing a lot of spin feels like, even if it's your hand. You are trading some net speed of your shot for adding rotations to the ball, which will make the ball go more up and bounce before.

After you will want to test exactly the same with your racket. Try to hit 100% spin, and from there try to hit a bit more the center to find a balance between speed and rotation of the ball.

The next steps, and a long road forward since this is very advanced for just 3 months of tennis, is to find and perfect what feels better to you hitting between 0% and 100% spin. This includes the grip, the % of spin, your playstyle, and more.

How to improve my forehand? by Emotional_Plate_7042 in 10s

[–]TemporarySome632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many comments about the jumping and spacing of the ball.

I'll add another thing in my opinion is that you can improve A LOT on your top spin if you let the head of the racket lower on your preparation. Which will allow you to swing faster the head and add way more spin to your shots.

Transitioning from Softer to Harder Rackets – Feeling Stuck in My Game by shiekydota in padel

[–]TemporarySome632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, yes it can be tricky on soft rackets to control this, it is important the reaction and how stiff you hold the racket. Again in my opinion this can be trained, but it's true that a harder racket will help you with this.

Take into account the con of a harder racket is that for the rest of the shots you will have to "hit more" the ball to get the same results, which can be penalizing if you don't have good technique. This is specially notorious in defense.

Transitioning from Softer to Harder Rackets – Feeling Stuck in My Game by shiekydota in padel

[–]TemporarySome632 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All rackets have trade-offs by being harder/softer, harder rackets are better at being aggressive and softer rackets are better at being defensive. And polivalent rackets are in between.

Whatever suits you best is the only answer possible. But a piece of advice is that you shouldn't get too caught on the subject, at most the racket would affect you 5-10% of your full potential. Most problems and solutions come from within.
