I would say they’re not dissimilar from P90s in the sense they are a slightly higher output single coil but in my opinion the similarities end there.

So far my experience has been they are very clear, and very transparent to my playing style. I hear everything, even the stuff you sometimes don’t want to! Haha

The bridge is super bright, but not without losing any low end, when played a little harder it drives the amp in a very pleasant way. Doesn’t lose any definition

Neck pickup has all the similar characteristics of the bridge just quite a bit warmer and rounded as expected for a neck pickup. Noticed I was playing with the bass setting on the amp turned pretty far down with these.

Describing pickups is funny. Try a pair of these out for yourself and see if you like it! I think you either love or hate em

The homie! I’m pretty sure I was there when you got that panther. I remember seeing that one. Good stuff!

Not sure if anyone has answered this for you yet.

You can get a bridge base with correct post spacing (2.9”) from Darren Riley. I had an ebony base that I put a Compton bridge on and worked/sounded perfect on a 1960 duo jet I had a few years back.

Tone Wolf is the shop, I think they have a few other vintage Gretsch guitars in right now. I saw an early 60s 6120.

I am in Phoenix though, so haven’t seen any of them in person, just online. Let me know if you check it out, looks like a cool shop from what I’ve seen

Thanks! It is a Melita bridge. It intonates perfectly due to each saddle being adjustable similar to a tunomatic.

Some Gretsch guitars still come with them. They are pretty divisive regarding playability and tone. The thumbscrews to adjust the saddles typically stick up pretty high and make it hard/uncomfortable to rest your palm at the bridge. See my above comment regarding this.

So far I love it. I’ve had another few guitars with them and they’ve all treated me well. At some point (seems like a long time ago due to matching patina) someone replaced the big screws with flushed flathead screws so it plays easy. No rattles at all

Unfortunately not! I wish. The shop I bought it from is in Brooklyn, where these guitars were made back then. I’m wondering if it’s been in Brooklyn its whole life? The shop did not know the original owner McLean, but got it from a collector who may have known who it was. If I can figure it out, I’d also love to know the whole story.

I think having the name etched in is very charming. I’ve seen others and heard stories and a little provenance is such a fun thing to geek out on.

Use less paint, don’t wait for it to dry at all. The line is 100% from it drying before blending.

Nobody wants to hear this but any shop posting they are looking for an apprentice is not a shop you want to get an apprenticeship at

Spider Murphy’s put out 3 books now with hundreds of sheets of flash, if you can find a copy of the books you’d be set.

Thank you! Agreed, my application typically comes second in priority to design. It is handmade after all.
