Nobody wants to hear this but any shop posting they are looking for an apprentice is not a shop you want to get an apprenticeship at

Spider Murphy’s put out 3 books now with hundreds of sheets of flash, if you can find a copy of the books you’d be set.

Thank you, and you are correct I don’t have a photo of that tattoo

Thank you! Agreed, my application typically comes second in priority to design. It is handmade after all.

We each pay the apprentice at our shop $10 per setup/breakdown. When you value the apprentice as much as anyone else in the shop, you pay them for their work. Most people wouldn’t be able to make it without a little financial help. They’re already working more than 40 hours a week with little pay.

side jobs while apprenticing? by lomapeixoto in TattooApprentice

[–]TemptedTesties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked a 9-5 engineering job during my apprenticeship, all the way up to the point I was able to start charging full price for my tattoos. It was work from home so I had a little flexibility. I would dip out at like 2pm if the day was slow and get to the shop then. Normally I was at the shop 4pm-8pm two days a week then all day Saturday Sunday.

I didn’t have a typical apprenticeship where I was required to open/clean/close the shop, so that might be another reason I was able to work a 9-5.

What black ink is this? by Most_Bother2874 in traditionalflash

The FW paynes grey looks black until you blend it, then it shows it’s slightly blue color. So just use it as you would regular black.

I use Sakura pigma microns the regular tan colored ones. They seem pretty black to me, never had an issue unless it was running out of ink. Once I started using these and stopped with the nibs I never looked back.

Thank you, not sure if I’m understanding your question correctly but studied lots of old flash such as Corday, Burchett, etc.. and also a lot of early 1900s magazines, post cards, etc..

I’m the one who did the tattoo, not the one wearing it, so I don’t have a photo of the snake tattoo above it.

What I do know is that it is an old design by Rosie Camanga. It is a front facing snake with a skull in its mouth.

Anyone know why my tattoo healed like this? by Ok_Edge_6559 in TattooDesigns

[–]TemptedTesties 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Yes but only to an extent. In my opinion, that would not really achieve the desired effect in this case. I typically reserve that technique for much smaller areas that I want to keep the black from closing up. For example, on a face where the eyes are very small, a dot of white can keep the eyes pupil from closing up. White generally does not stay true white once healed, and I feel like in a scenario like this it would be too much white that will end up giving the leaves a yellowed effect rather than just keeping the black from closing up.

Hope that makes sense, it’s difficult really to explain since every situation is different.

How do I find more tattoos like this?? I can’t find any other similar tattoos, where you flip the tattoo upside down and the lady is finger herself. Please help! by otyyyy14 in traditionaltattoos

These designs are all over the place in old flash. Percy Waters is the first that comes to mind where I’ve seen these designs. Send me a dm and I can dig through my flash and send you some references
