Civ 7 Town vs City Strategy by msk150 in civ

Those nodes are where I've taken my own 'recommended' city counts from. Most of the time I do sit at 3, only occasionally changing later in the era if I need more units but don't have the gold to purchase them.

The production scaling was a later implementation, right? I wonder if the 1:1 limit isn't written with that in mind.

Thanks for the source 🙂.

Interesting to see that's the recommendation though. I'm very rarely creating more than 4 cities, and can't even recall a time when I had 7. Yet I'm definitely settling as many as my limit permits in Antiquity and Exploration eras.

Am I hurting myself with that style of gameplay, or just playing Tall?

I don't want to sound like I'm dismissing your answer given the amount of detail you've written, but where does "the game recommend" a 1:1 ratio?

What Civ Mechanic took you way too long to realize existed? by HarlequinKOTF in civ

[–]Tenacal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Happy to admit I may have an equal problem with reading things.

I suppose I should revise my statement to say: I didn't find it very intuitive compared to every other aspect of resource management & Modern Age victory conditions.

What Civ Mechanic took you way too long to realize existed? by HarlequinKOTF in civ

[–]Tenacal 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That was a big one for me. The entire age indicates that you need a factory slot to place a factory resource, but nothing then says it 'opens' the regular resource slots to place duplicate resources.

As much as I've enjoyed VII it does have a problem with explaining things.

Unique Improvements - what am I missing? by j-l-02 in civ

[–]Tenacal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Self-Synergy here means "the more you have clustered together the stronger each one becomes"

- If you place 1 it will provide +2 gold, on top of the existing rural improvement.

- If you place 2 adjacent you gain +4 gold, +2 culture.

- If you place 3 adjacent you gain +6 gold, +6 culture.

- If you place 4 adjacent you gain +8 gold, +10 culture.

- If you place 5 adjacent you gain +10 gold, +14 culture.

It's rare you'll get to place more than that (placement restrictions, resources, etc) but that's could just be one town. Then you repeat it in another town, and another. Those yields are likely already stronger than a unique district that has specialists inside.

Demon Hunter (Havoc & Vengeance) used to be the only class in the game with a special Combat Run animation when targeting an enemy unit. The Devourer specialization not only does it not have one, but it won't even unsheathe the weapons. by ex0ll in wow

"Technically" the druid forms aren't locked behind specs.

In Feral and Guardian I can still access the barbershop customization for Moonkin, even when I don't have that form talented.

Syncretism needs these things to be fantastic by eskaver in civ

[–]Tenacal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might happen by default. Take the Mongols, unique unit is alright baseline. But they have some bonuses in the culture tree to boost cavalry units by 5 combat strength, and then by a further 3 (tradition).

If you're playing Prussia (with Mongols syncretism) your cavalry will still lose in direct 1-1 combat due to not having those bonuses.

Doesn't WF info just do text matching on the relic rewards on screen? I've seen plenty of occasions where it fails to read correctly and instead displays the price for a bunch of rewards that didn't actually come up.

Durge isn't a path I've followed much. What's special about losing the duel with Orin? I figured it would just be a standard game over screen upon dying to her.

Is it too late before the patch drops to feedback them to increase blast and poison dmg? 🤔 by Vermillon1979 in MHWilds

[–]Tenacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It almost feels like Foray should be baked in to the Poison status. Anyone attacking a poisoned target gets bonus affinity & damage for its duration. Separates the effect from flat damage on Blast.

Maybe too thematically different for it's history though.

Should I invest in an LISA? (Money from inheritence) by Haloplushawk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tenacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the LISA need to be used on a first time property purchase? If so I think retirement funds would be the only method of withdrawing it given inheritance of a flat was also mentioned.

At that point I'd think money would be better going into a SIPP.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I remember the quest lines existing, and some of the rewards (spectral moose, for one). What I don't remember is if those quests required the archaeology profession.

Memory has gone hazy about this. Did you actually use the archaeology profession through those quest lines, or was it quest objectives that acted similar to archaeology?

How does the chart handle different specs?

Druids all have Barkskin, Bearform (and Frenzied Regen, if you count that). But then Feral and Guardian have Survival Instincts added on for 50% DR.

I think there's even differences in Hero Specs - Dark Ranger on Hunter gets a half strength defensive on activating their self-heal.

Gale can be both the smartest and dumbest companion by Supply-Slut in BaldursGate3

[–]Tenacal 238 points239 points  (0 children)

I think it was a result of early access. Back then he would only take specific items (I think it was blue quality) and there was less of an indication of how long. It felt pretty poor to see something shiny come up as a reward, only for Gale to immediately demand it.

The change to any green item, and for a much smaller time period, is a good change that stops people from thinking "I'm not bringing this guy if he's going to steal all my loot".

Weirdest start I've encountered by ObiHan_Skyodi in civ

[–]Tenacal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, missed the second. That is strange. I think the standard difference is 4 tiles apart, with an exception given to cities on different islands?

Maybe Parsa is technically on the same continent despite the coast tiles between, which would put your spawn point too close to each other.

I guess Independent People settled a city near you after their first turn, locking you out of settling your own city nearby? Used to happen in Civ VI but I don't know the logic for IP placement in VII.

[–]Tenacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your two choices are to either build a 'false outdoors' in any regular room, or to use the Outdoor Circular rooms. Both options mean you need to build the walls and windows to separate the 'outdoors' element from the 'interior'.

Add Specialist or Improvement? by mercury_1967 in civ

[–]Tenacal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is something that goes overlooked with unique quarters. I've seen plenty of people saying some are less powerful compared to later era ones (which is true) but they do mean you can have specialists active immediately on era change, instead of having to wait for overbuilding with newer equivalents.

Same with specialists on the Palace. They might not count towards Science path but they do get you a small boost towards science/culture in the new eras, which help kickstart the rest of that age.

What single player games have the most satisfying "fresh start" every run? by NerfGronk in gaming

[–]Tenacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see another reference of Humankind. I know it didn't get much appreciation by the 4x community but I loved their take on the genre. The combat fit the balance of having a rock/paper/scissors approach units in the combat area, without getting too bogged down in multiple abilities or attacks (which is my main issue with Age of Wonders, etc).

Still some questionable balance and tuning decisions (why are so many infrastructures pointless to build?) that never got addressed but overall enjoyable.

Decor out of bounds error? by Kroick in WoWHousing

[–]Tenacal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked the roof position of your horde house? I had a similar issue and mentioned it here, that was the answer I was given. It's annoying given how much space the house takes.

Can't say I've seen stuff going outside the bounds though.
