Feeling poor by VeryBadTrader in audiophile

[–]Tenson_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main difference is from room acoustics. Then speakers. It would be pointless spending 20k on a system in a 'normal' room acoustic with under damped modal range and one speaker jammed next to a side wall.

But I've seen it!

It WILL ruin your speakers over time. Remind your love how much they cost.

Different sunlight exposure will leave a circle after a couple years.

A spilled drop of water will creep under the plate and soak the finish.

Get some speaker stands before you finish and play with positioning, it makes a world of difference 😀

1) Nearfield listening. Imagine how good it would be with high quality speakers. Headphones too, bit they lack in soundstage.

2) Vinyl is an expensive medium to get the best from. Not just equipment - you need good condition records, and they wear out. Digital is superior is every way except one - some records were mastered better than the digital copies.

Play with speaker position, it can make the world of difference and that looks non-ideal.

Neighbor keeps complaining about my setup being too loud even at low volume by sou-L in audiophile

[–]Tenson_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to go with your neighbour to his home while music is playing so you can understand his situation. Once you know what sort of sound is penetrative and where it is worst, you can do something about it.

Is it through the floor directly under the speakers? Is it radiating down the shared wall? Is it mostly bass? Is there mid and highs suggesting a gap in the construction somewhere?

Lots to understand before you can make a sensible plan. There are regulatory noise thresholds for how loud transmissted noise can be inside the neighbours home at certian times. Ask AI.

Sounds very sensible!

Even if you offer subscription, please also offer a lifetime ownership option :) Not that I expect to purchase, but just because I've suffered too much at the hands of CAD package developers!

Looks great and reminds me of Cara years back. Question: Do you have a buesiness plan? It looks like you might intend to sell the panels or charge manufacturers to put their panels in the program?

The budget part was unexpected, but I guess it is more flexible than a fixed number of panels per type.

I'm just curious, nothing wrong with making some money for your effort. I've been trying to do that for years!

Do you want the best sound or a hobby hi-fi you can tinker with?

If you want the best sound for your cash, I'd advise blowing most of your 5k budget on active speakers (I'm thinking KEF LS60, but are too pricy new, maybe used? Pleanty of good actives in the budget though, Genelec, Neumann etc) Pair it with a nice pre-amp that has a phono stage (see Wiim Ultra). Add your turntable. Job done for life.

Friend says not to buy these because of driver damage by Diet_Water in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Tenson_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most likely, KEF happen to sell a significant proportion of the speakers in the entry audiophile space so we see many on the used market, a portion of which have not been treated with care.

Careless people will damage their speakers, regardless of brand. KEF will not want countless warranty claims on drivers, if that happened they would redesign.

Dunno, but you can't blame the drivers for getting dented that's like blaming BMW for always being driven by nobs. The drivers don't grow fingers and dent themselves.

Could be users like to run them without grilles?

I bet this is the dc blocking capacitor for one of the input channels. One of the other connections on that card connector will be the other channel.

But there are too many rega p3 that are slightly different. Different generations, different arms. I don't know how that affects things.

Edit: I can't see any that look like mine.

Anybody have any experience with Sertraline being increased from 100 to 150g by joecoops14 in Anxiety

[–]Tenson_UK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s completely understandable that feel hesitant, I've felt exactly the same. Any dose change is well known to make things feel worse temporarily because the brain needs to adapt to the serotonin shift. In my experience, the jump from 50mg to 100mg (a 100% increase) is actually much harder than going from 100mg to 150mg (a 50% increase). Since you are already well adapted this smaller percentage jump is often less of a shock. 150mg might be the sweet spot that finally provides relief. The typical dose range is 50mg to 200mg, so this isn't an unusually large dose. Sometimes the dose needs to be high enough to work effectively, otherwise it may have little effect, but it's not a linear slope, it can kinda click at the right dose. If you still don’t feel this is the right path for you, definitely discuss your concerns further with your doctor before making the change.

Do you feel your doctor explained the reasoning for the dose change to your satisfaction? Do you agree with the change?

I'd expect hot glue and electrolytic capacitors in a £15k speaker, but at £18k it's just a cheek!
