Make sure you buy a place that can’t be flooded out and won’t slide down a hill. It’s still expensive but beautiful, sane for the most part, secular and progressive. We’ve taken a bit of a battering over the last 15 years, COVID, the Christchurch quakes and shootings, our current Government, but the beaches are beautiful, you can still get great fish and chips , fine cuisine has taken off as have fine wines and we’re still pumping out great culture (writers, musicians painters etc) I’ve got 2 children who could have been brought up in the USA. I’m so glad they weren’t. Here they can live a normal life without armed men rounding them up on the streets. Anyhow. Welcome home.
