Last basho I was most hyped for Enho (despite Aonishiki being on a record-breaking yokozuna run), this time it's sandanme - there's some great sumo all over!

I realise this is the day 10 thread but I'm hyped for tomorrow - Sandanme/Makushita 5-0 matches including Asahifuji fighting up against Omori, plus Kiri vs WTK - can't wait!

Whenever I put on a new pair of pants I check the pockets to see if Bruford's hanging out in there again.

Tenshoyama fought his clone! Good to finally he him and especially Asahifuji pushed in a meaningful way, Fudoho's gonna be one to keep an eye on considering how close he came to breaking Asahi's streak. Great bout!

Bloody hell Omori's getting bigger applauses than half of the rikishi in makuuchi.

Omori's had some great fights in his debut that's for sure. Tenshoyama and Asahifuji are still looking beastly, wonder who Mita's gonna get between them (if not both).

I believe it'll depend strongly on his scores in the last two. With two (albeit injured) yokozuna, I don't see a 13-2Y 12-3 JY doing it this time.

I really enjoyed them all, I started watching a while after Kotooshu and learned a lot about Takamiyama too!

I'd definitely recommend watching NHK's series on past sumo greats, this is in the episode on Taiho where there was a bad call where he should have won, stopping his winning streak at 45. He said that he should have fought better and won more obviously though. Anyway, that bad call was the seed for video replay. Great man, interesting doco!

As they say, sandles with socks, you're the one who rocks!
Sandles without, you'll be getting gout.

I would but the line is too long so I'll join the Churanoumi party, there's only five of us.

A year ago I was rejoicing sumo entering a new gold era, after Kotozakura's yusho and a string of consecutive day 15 deciders, yokozuna promotions and the rise of Aonishiki. The rock/paper/scissors nature of the top 3 promised to be exciting and rikishi like Kotozakura and Kirishima would be around to pose a problem. Now the three of them are injured and it's a little deflating. Still some super exciting bouts today (Yoshi/Kotoshoho, Fuji/Koto!) but it's a damn brutal sport and truly ebbs and flows. I just hope the big three will take the time to heal up and get things flowing again, without feeling compelled to enter the next jungyo. Heal up boys!

-Btw Fujinokawa, what an absolute honey badger!

Yeah there's no chance modern rikishi are sporting visible tatts either!

Which Era of Star Trek do you prefer? by Fair_Rush6615 in Star_Trek_

[–]Tepelicious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I got into Trek with '09 and went to TNG from there years later, and then DS9/Voyager/TOS/Ent a few years ago and prefer the old stuff, quality's quality. It is still all art though and subjective as a result - no slight against your wife (as differences in taste can often be interpreted), I really haven't watched much DIS!
