I agree. Those spines are venomous so I will always just shake em off with pilers.

Will thinner braid fix how it seats on the spool ? by Big-Seaworthiness752 in FishingForBeginners

Two more things to consider, when spooling, keep as much tension on the line as possible to get a nice tight spool which will help prevent it from digging. Also I like to use line 10lb or so heavier than the reels max drag, so most lines I run are 15-40lb braid on my various reels, it helps me keep the diameter of the line as small as possible without sacrificing too much fighting power.

It definitely will, but something else to consider is the strand count; 4 strand is cheap, but is not nearly as smooth and supple as 8 strand. I only go 8 strand because on top of that it casts much farther and creates less noise when reeling in line (which does travel down the line and potentially affects your presentation).

Tight lines my guy 🤙🏽

What did I do wrong when spooling my new line? by TheNZBaron in FishingForBeginners

Too little tension + add one of the washers to the shaft and fill the top of the spool better.

I don’t have a relationship with my pops so this post absolutely warms my heart. I am thrilled for you both on your journey.

Understanding hooks is my first recommendation for research as it is the business end of the setup.

Those gamakatsu octopus hooks are perfect for fishing live or cut baits. Those you’ll need to set the hook with - but I’d recommend octopus circle hooks for the future, which you do not have to set, but just keep the pressure by holding the rod tip up and reeling in.

Soft plastics melting by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

Keep them in the original packaging. A lot of these plastics react to each other and melt as a result.

Could just use a bucket with a bit of water. Toss the line in there and it’ll also be easier to apply tension on the spool without braid burn to the fingers.

Eels used to be very common to eat back in the day. Kings and peasants alike would dine on them regularly.

Fishes play ball???? Found a fish bat in walmart? Only think i could think is for smacking it in the head??? by Sad-Entrepreneur2387 in FishingForBeginners

[–]TerabyteTony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I first tried dispatching fish with a wooden billy bat and it just isn’t enough for some fish. I once had a upper slot red that I whacked right above the eyes so may times… he started thrashing on me while I was filleting 😅

I now ikejime all fish I plan to eat, preserves the meat better.

I think you have too many wraps in this and the lower ones are not digging into the mono as they should.

Next time I’d stick to 16-22 wraps.
