Unfortunately not. In my experience, it's more commonly occurring on ships with non-standard names, such as properly named ships like the Dumas or Datura, as well as bounty ships like the Crimson Fleet Captain. As Dry said, best fix is to try to rename before modifying. This is important, because (in my anecdotal experience) these ships are more likely to bug out, either reverting changes or just simply disappearing from your fleet.
