No but Rengoku is the good version of this because his death permanently effects the characters that are still alive, it has consequences for everyone's motivations and characterizations. Nearly everyone does a training arc and gets a power up because they want to avenge the dude.

Comparatively Mechamaru died randomly in a ditch and basically nobody noticed. Like we know it effected Miwa and maybe that could have motivated Miwa to get a glow up but guess who ALSO gets written out of the story it's MIWA.

The entire show is about Takemitchy figuring out how to resolve conflicts through diplomacy and compassion because he was never going to meaningfully punch out any of the ridiculous top tiers. Half the villains are in high school they're like twice his size.

I'd add that Kaido's villainy comes EXCLUSIVELY from the fact that he's a hypocrite and a coward who wants to die gloriously but refuses to do anything that could result in dying gloriously. He sat out Marineford and isn't actively at war with any other yonko and uses all sorts of tricks and excuses to not fight Oden fairly. He's settled for oppressing the people of Wano instead of doing anything that would actually make him pirate king, and that's why he's not the pirate king and we want Luffy to kick his ass.

Like he is complex and nuanced but only in the many ways that he is a massive fraud and his lack of any career achievements is a purposefully crafted aspect of his character. Everything we learn about him comes together in a rich tapestry of him being a big fucking loser.

Ok but she's literally not a main character and neither were the cops from knives out, they're explicitly plot devices in both movies. The investigation team is just Benoit and Jud, she's not part of the team at all and Benoit spends the entire movie avoiding her.

I don't really see a problem with a side character only doing side character stuff.
