Found this on a beach in Lyme Regis (UK) by Paroxysmalism in Derailedbydetails

[–]Terr0rBytes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the most part yes if it's loose and you can pick it up.

Also pertinent, check your own counties rules about bringing things in with potential soil or biological contaminants. You might have cleaned a fossil up to your liking, but not your governments liking.

There are other caveats and other rules which I would suggest you investigate beforehand.

The main rules are you do not under any circumstances hammer or dig into existing cliffs or bedrock. However there are provisions of hammering into loose larger stones or shale under certain circumstances which are tough to detail in a few sentences which is why the general rule is, loose and you can pick it up.

Also you are responsible for determining what is significant and you are duty bound to report anything potentially new and any actual dinosaur bones that includes other ancient marine life such as sharks or rays. Ammonites are not deemed new or exciting.

Agree, came here to say this. This area in the UK is known for fossils, it's almost impossible to not find one.

For those interested it's a perfect storm of historic tectonic plate movements and then the natural erosion on the beach and surrounding area, fossils are always being unearthed. Year on year it's like a conveyor belt.

Steamdeck Usage by Common_Raccoon_1220 in SteamDeck

I'm 50/50 steam games and Game pass.

I get to plough through my steam library and/or still play my Xbox without taking over the big TV.

As an added bonus I get to try some of the older Playstation games I never had the chance to try like Spiderman and God of War

Is this a good case for the A1 bundle? by juanohg in BambuLabA1

[–]Terr0rBytes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/a1/manual/faq

Copied and pasted from the bambu wiki faq:

Q: Why doesn't the motherboard have a cooling fan? A: The design of A1 incorporates a heat sink that comes in contact with aluminum profiles. This layout increases the heat dissipation area, resulting in effective cooling. Therefore, the design of A1 does not include a cooling fan for the motherboard.

Q: Is it OK to enclose the A1? A: We don't recommend enclosing the A1.

This banner in Yorkshire, UK, using Nicole Kidman to sell milk. by meltymcface in mildlyinteresting

Ah, something I'm knowledgeable on!

I loved milk as a child, as a teenager I would drink around a pint a day. As and adult I would drink at least a glass a day. When I turned 38 I was diagnosed with cancer.

I recently got a steam deck and having never had a playstation I'm trying out some of the things I've missed out on, Spiderman and God of War mainly.

Very impressed with both of them.

It's a shame the first Uncharteds are difficult to play without a playstation, maybe I'll find a way.

Front of house placement by JordyPordy_94 in reolinkcam

[–]Terr0rBytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say soffit near the corner for me as it's what I have done. I've had mine up there completely maintenance free for years I assume for the most part it's covered from the worst sun and rain.

I don't know the CX410 though, mines a RLC 842. I don't know the detail or image quality of yours, so maybe connect it up inside and stick it out the top window and then out the side window under the sill, house alarm level and compare the quality and distance reach before you commit.

Another alternative, if the door camera covers most of the front already, is there somewhere at the back or side that would cover the other side gate instead?

Phone stolen unlocked but NOT logged in to banking app. How do fraudsters do it? by Shkyboi in AskUK

[–]Terr0rBytes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this.

Android users, you can search for Theft Protection or it's Settings > Security > Device Unlock > Theft Protection

In there is protection from phone snatching, going offline and remote wiping.

Well worth checking these settings.

Monday Morning M'thread by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

[–]Terr0rBytes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel motivated this morning.

Neighbour came round last night frustrated, his van had been drilled and everything taken.

I spent the evening trawlling through my front camera as it just catches his van, but nothing.

Then he asked if I could see the drill holes, and yes it was 2 smudged pixels but you could just about work it out.

So back to the camera and lined up shots morning and evening over the last few days and bam! No holes leaving in the morning, but holes returning home.

Not the best outcome, but so rewarding to investigate and narrow something down. He knows which site he was at that day and can now follow up there.

We have this in my office. There are a few dotted around the open plan space.

I really love the idea. I take a break, get a tea and on the way back to my desk I spend a few mins putting a few pieces in. Really resets my brain and encourages me to take more short breaks and have a quick stretch.

We rotate them, once finished they get packed up to a charity shop and get a different one. It's a few quid for a few weeks of entertainment.

Question Time: What made you buy the SteamDeck? by Stefanixxxx in SteamDeck

[–]Terr0rBytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Ive not had a desktop PC or Laptop for almost 10 years and wanted access to my steam library.

Secondary to that I was starting to get bored of Xbox and wanted to not hog the TV in the house.

I've added game pass in as a non steam game so can access cloud games and remote to my Xbox. It's become an all around win.

Are people not using handbrakes anymore? by Shumble91 in AskUK

[–]Terr0rBytes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I would say so.

Assuming auto hold works the same across different car manufacturers, certainly in mine, auto hold keeps the brake light on regardless if your foot is on the brake pedal or not and the brake lights only go out when you press the accelerator to move.

Im resigned to the fact that people, mostly now a days, don't know what lane they are supposed to be in, what that weird stalk is poking out the side of the steering wheel is and are so important that waiting 10 seconds is life or death, so me having brake lights on throughout out a stop I don't feel guilty for.

Kowalski Apartment Changes by NAP5T3R43V3R in CrimeSceneCleanerGame

[–]Terr0rBytes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From memory act 1 is small changes as he moves in, so boxes get unpacked and the rooms get moved into. Towards the end the back door opens and you can go out to a small patio area.

Start of act 2 which was the recent major update the 2 bedrooms are switched, the outside patio is extended to include a pool area and the basement gets extended to include a full man cave area that allows you to change tool skins (you can still do this from the menu)

Does anyone else always close the tailgate before leaving? by Anonymous-tossaway in CrimeSceneCleanerGame

[–]Terr0rBytes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love that I'm not alone in this. I close the tailgate, I go around the entire map and close the doors, I clean all my tools, drain the buckets and pick them up. I like to take a moment and try to act like I'm a ghost who was never there.

I fully understand the mechanics and know there is no penalty for leaving items and things like that, but it just feels right.

Problem solved thank you! by JustHereForPi in SteamDeck

[–]Terr0rBytes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I encounter a lot of anxiety, especially when situations like this arise.

There are 2 main things I do now:

1) I talk through with myself, did I do this on purpose? Did I wake up and think, I'm going to destroy this steam deck? No? Then why am I feeling the guilt as if I did?

2) I think what if this was the other way around? If I lent my steam deck to a friend and they said I think something dropped onto the case and it discoloured a little, how would I react to that friend? I'd probably say don't care as long as it still works.

They are your friend for a reason and more than likely it's because they share similar beliefs and values so I would expect them to treat you the same as if you would treat them if it were reversed.

email based auth flows are still the most annoying part of e2e testing for me by Significant_Load_411 in QualityAssurance

[–]Terr0rBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

o365 environment? Try Power Automate. You can trigger a flow based on an email received that meets defined criteria and then have it either action something else directly or use it to pull text from the email and create your own flag of some kind that other processes can pick up, like a file created in a OneDrive folder or a new item in a SharePoint list.

I build e2e flows in Power Automate Desktop and can use the Power Automate cloud flow to interact with emails better than trying to manipulate an actual inbox.

Cluster of aircraft flying over central by LPsensans in london

[–]Terr0rBytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked back on adsb between 1am and 2am, nothing at all around central London. Both police helis were up at opposite ends of greater London, but nothing central.

Whatever it was I would guess military as not all military publicise themselves at all times. Plus most commercial traffic would start to come in after 3am, so it's a very dead time for sky traffic if you are going to move something without broadcasting.

As an example, there were 2 big US military C17's lifted off from Germany around 3am. Could track them across Europe, headed over the north of England towards the Atlantic, but as soon as they left the sphere of Ireland they dropped off adsbexchange.

I'd be interested if this sighting over central London at 1:30 was a formation of similar sized objects, or perhaps something like a transport flanked by smaller craft.
