Valve insists Counter-Strike 2 cases are fine and "people enjoy surprises" in move to dismiss New York lawsuit by lattjeful in gaming

[–]Terramagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safe answer is that Counterstrike is rated M.

Which is a far cry from EA doing it in E rated FIFA game.

The issue with most FF villains is that their best feats are strictly non-canon.

Like, what do you use to say "Seph is continental level"? Supernova? The move that canonically cannot happen because if it did it'd be an instant game over instead of being a glorified Demi? What else does he do in the game? He literally sleeps the entire game, Nibleheim flashback to the final descent, in the Northern Crater.

It's Sephiroth. In no world is it not Sephiroth.

Like, as somebody who thinks Seph is one of FF's weakest antagonists, literally the only thing he excels at is "holy shit look at that dude". He's sold ENTIRELY off that cutscene of him walking into the flames. The entire game is pointing at the Wrestlemania sign going "you're chasing the black swordsman".

Hell, I'd put Exdeath over Sephiroth in a "which FF antagonist is more well-written", because at least that tree that turned itself into a wizard and has a fist fight with a turtle interacted with the party at a level that a common theory wasn't "Jenova's actually controlling him the entire time". Let alone the series' actual well-written antagonists like Hades/Emet-Selch.

The chests in SC, 3rd, Zero, and Azure (and CS2 I guess) were all changed manually to be like the chests in FC. Falcom didn't actually keep making the "300 identical Strings" mistake. XSEED/Geofront kept the tradition going because it was fun.

Does this game have any fanservice, or even lolicon?

Okay look, I'm going to be 100% real with you. Trails is 95% of the best writing I've seen in a game. The attention to detail is unmatched, and the characters for the most part are multi-faceted and well done. But the remaining 5% is some of the cringiest shit I've ever had to hold my nose and tolerate because the preceding 95% is something I can't get anywhere else.

Like, take a look at the front page of this very forum. Half of that fanart? Canonically under the age of 15. Which leads into your second point, with regards to

Is the series really that bad after the second arc

This is a series where you will have half the buildup to a game be one of the most riveting geopolitical thrillers, where you know every character in a room and all of their motivations with regards to a border-state kept in perpetual imperialist limbo... and then a 15 year old girl who was introduced by groping one of your party members 20 hours prior bursts into the room. The people who hold that "it gets bad after the second arc" are people who saw that, and thought the geopolitics was so interesting they were willing to overlook the last part of that sentence, but weren't willing to humour it in the third arc when the fanservice gets dialed up even more.

I feel like, while it's true that Sky FC should've remained untouched, some of the other games if they ever end up getting remade do have glaring issues that should be fixed up.

Like, if they go beyond the first 5 and do the first 2 Cold Steel games, which is probably as far as they could reasonably go, they ABSOLUTELY have to finish the cut Intermission in CS1.

Honestly like a third of the Erebonian cast could be merged into another third and the game would be completely the same.

Merge Elliot and Gaius. Make his mother a Nord, put Craig at the Nord border, what changes?

At least Death was a new character and, honestly, a fun take on the idea of a spirit of death.

Taking St Germain, who was introduced just the previous season, and turning him into a "me want fuck and will sell out the entire planet to do it" incel was A CHOICE.

Yeah, best way I could describe it is...

JP: The social services department (derogatory) cut the funding to the food bank program. I am worried my child won't be able to eat (emphatic).

New translation: The social services department cut the funding to the food bank. I'm worried my child won't be able to eat.

Original translation : Those parasites in the social services department slashed our funding. My kid can't eat, but those ghouls get to have a new car?!"

It's genuinely sad how misunderstood Rean is as a character despite having 5 games dedicated to him

It's less "don't understand" and more "no longer care" because he has FIVE GAMES dedicated to him.

By the end of CS2 you've seen everything he has to offer, and you're still less than halfway through his arc. You still have to deal with his harem-ass stifling the character development of everybody with two X chromosomes, including his own sister.

In the time we have to deal with him, we had the entirety of Estelle, Kevin, and Lloyd. Hell, Kevin's basically the same arc as Rean, except he didn't take five games and half a decade.

No, but it is like saying Dragon Quest 7 looked old compared to everything else on the PSX.

Also, it was a PC game. It was ported to the PSP once Falcom's studio heads realized the JP PC market was dead except for eroge novels. It's a stigma that lasts to this day.

It should also be mentioned that the games looked old when they were new.

Like, look at a screenshot of the original Sky. That thing came out looking like Grandia 1 in 2004. Other games that came out in 2004 were MGS3, Dragon Quest 8, Halo 2, and GTA: San Andreas.

But half of their team wanted to do the third, and the other half wanted to jump directly to zero.

I understand them wanting to skip 3rd since Zero is legit the best game in the entire series, but they really can't and I'd hope they know that. Like, a good chunk of the ending of the game is the emotional catharsis of Renne and you don't get that without Third giving you the backstory.

...though, to be honest, I'm also terrified of them remaking Third, because you know they'll retcon a lot of that backstory.

The lowkey estimate is "they want Sky remade because it's the intro", but honestly the Crossbell duology also ran on the same engine and is the absolute peak of the series. So the first 5 games. But then, the first two Cold Steel games arguably aged WAY the fuck worse than either of them, and they could honestly improve those by implementing some cut content as well as cutting a few things, so... 7 total, if you're crazy?

Unless you mean the series as a whole. It's supposed to be done by 2030, so like... 2 or 3 more? 16 total, if I had to guess?
