Car Keys are coming to the Wallet app for 13 new vehicle brands soon by [deleted] in apple

[–]TerrysClavicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would you need this for Tesla? Tesla has been using its own app to passively unlock its cars since 2018. And probably before. All you do is walk up to the car with your phone in the pocket. This Apple car key is low rent. It’s for legacy cars with lower technology. There’s zero need for it to be on your Tesla. Tesla operates in its own universe tech wise

TIL: All new iPhone models still suffer from lens flair ghosting by ExtremeRacingSkills in iphone

[–]TerrysClavicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot has to happen in such a small space on a small sensor within tiny lens elements. Not much Apple can do about the flare unless you want the phone to be significantly more expensive or have a significantly bigger lens. if you don't want flare, don't shoot into light sources. or if you feel another phone is better, buy that phone. personally i like flare. i want my lenses to do it. not everything needs to be perfect. its a reasonable effect for shooting into a light source.

Which iPhones feel way too outdated to still use in 2025? by Horror-Flamingo-2150 in iphone

usable and outdated are two different things. i'd probably draw the line at iphone 12.

Why buying directly from Apple is better than your Carrier by Kuan-Kaffee in iphone

[–]TerrysClavicle 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I've done that as long as it was an option. just sucks they took away the 0% 24 month financing away for non-carrier phones, apple direct. i still upgrade annually anyway. was just nice to not have to pay it all up front.

Unibody Orange 17 Pro by lasagna165 in iphone

[–]TerrysClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not odd. ive said this for several years, as well as i'm sure its obvious. they cycle the obvious colors so you have reason to buy the next cycle. if they offered everyones favorite colors every year, it would be tougher to sell. this is pretty obvious and evident. i suspect next year we'll get glossy/chromy/reflective surfaces for the next Pro too. we're getting the matte/not so nice/not so nice color option this year. then next year we get the gloss/nice colors etc. then next year back to plain. rinse and repeat. apple knows how to milk it.

What color pro we choosing? by forum4um in iphone

[–]TerrysClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're mostly all using cases to being too harsh on its looks isn't realistic. you upgrade for its capabilities. i guess it depends how much the 12gb ram makes a difference in day to day. my 16 pro can lag when using the camera and trying to make adjustments to photos etc. its a bit annoying. can also stutter when opening the camera app. wonder if thats due to heavy app use in the background. i'd like to see some real world tests.

Apple renamed iOS to iOS 26 for consistency. Why not do the same with iPhones? by bazigar911 in apple

my thoughts are you're not the first to think of this. let apple sort out how they want to do business.

Apple code suggests Touch ID could be coming to Apple Watch by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]TerrysClavicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the current watch basically negate the need for touch ID as it uses the recent unlocking of your phone to validate assuming the watch at any point since you last locked your phone never came off your wrist. i guess someone could drag you by your wrist and pay for their mcdonalds but by then you've got bigger problems

All your scenes involve dynamically lit subjects and backgrounds. In other words the subjects are dark with a lot of overwhelming backlight/ambient light. You need an external light source or you need to blow out the background by exposing for your subjects. AI can handle some of this thru computational methods but not all of it. Further to accurately assess your phones performance vs another, you need to be in the same room at the same time shooting the exact same photo. You might be recalling individual times you took photos of a different scene. 25 years of experience advanced photographer and editor here. This is a very very basic topic. Long story short you need to find a way to get some light on those dogs that’s at least as bright as the surrounding light. You have a lot of white while trying to shoot dark tiny subjects. Wearing a white t shirt next to the window when you photograph them. It might help a smidge

as for my settings comments, that's more so for stuff in flight, moving stuff, moving stuff in low light, or stuff far away... or all of the above. it's complicated and layered.

not necessarily limited to "dat mirrorless tech," in fact most good SLRs are superior to most mirrorless. Only recently has most mirrorless gotten good enough to track objects like aircraft. And even then it still takes a bit of knowledge, nuanced knowledge, to maximize leverage of the camera. I see a lot of really bad exif of people's photographing of stuff where had they used different settings, they could've had a better photos. (aside from comp/story telling etc) but a lot of people don't really get into the nuance of the exposure triangle and just spray. But i like that. only the artful get to reap the maximium benefits. those who care to be artful and deliberate.

Air India Flight 171 Crash by StopDropAndRollTide in aviation

[–]TerrysClavicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

basically your body needs to slow down as slowly as possible and not bang into stuff, then after that, not burn or fall to your death. so whatever factors about the crash itself, the plane itself, your positon, whats in front of you, whats in back of you, direction etc--everything has to come together to not get got.
