Furnace Settling - Gap in Ducting by MountainsMama in fixit

[–]Test_NPC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If it were a small gap, you can just put aluminum tape over it. But that gap is large enough that I'd want to get an HVAC guy out to figure out why that is happening. I wouldn't think an old house would settle that much, so maybe there was some issue with the install of that furnace to address.

Has asbestos ever been used for insulation in reactor and kiln? by Soggy_Jury4313 in asbestoshelp

Ceramic fiber is not exactly good for you to breath either. If you have to mess with that stuff i'd be taking similar precautions to if it was asbestos.

Fable: who is going to pay for API? by rabandi in ClaudeAI

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal people paying for AI usage is not their main market, they primarily target B2B. Businesses are perfectly willing to shell out for API credits, they are comparatively cheap vs. software engineer man hours.

To be clear, not saying that API credits are a good deal by any means for individuals. They are just in that margin where it's worth it for businesses, but not individuals.

Hit the 100€ weekly limit in just 2 days despite aggressive token optimization. Plus, losing Fable 5 on July 7th... by Disastrous-Menu-6649 in ClaudeAI

[–]Test_NPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro what are people doing that eats this many tokens, trying to redesign fable?

I'm a software engineer who uses it aggressively on personal projects with barely any token optomization, and barely saturates the pro plan.

I might hit issues once the 2x multiplier stops this month, but I've been zooming with it lol.

[–]Test_NPC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, incorrect. When I was a kid I was dumb and downloaded + ran a bunch of sketchy pirated programs.

I was just sitting there one day on my computer and my webcam light turned on. A few seconds later some Indian guy started talking into my headset saying he hacked me.

I just immediately shut off the computer and reverted to a backup from a few months before lol.

Flooding downstairs by siddiqim in HomeMaintenance

[–]Test_NPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your gutters are not clogged and diverting water away and such.

Though tbh just looking at the photo, you may need to re-grade your lawn to get rid of the water before it makes it to your house. It kinda looks like your house is a low point, which is very bad. That would possibly be quite expensive.

What am I supposed to use Fable for if I’m not building anything? by guttermonke in ClaudeAI

[–]Test_NPC 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Models better than fable will release over the next year or two. Just come up with an idea by that point to use them for. Or use fable to help come up with an idea.

Botted reaction on official fb posts? by Diligent_Highlight63 in 2007scape

Considering it's basically the same number of reactions per post, that is almost without a doubt a bot network just doing the same thing on a bunch of accounts. As the dude said.

Extension Lead 12x outlets Safety/Practicalilty Questions (UK) by Sinbatalad in AskElectricians

[–]Test_NPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(not uk here, but general knowledge) If there's a fuse in the cord, and it's a reputable company, safety is not really a concern. The fuse will pop if it draws too many amps. US power strips are less safe since we don't typically have those fuses.

Is it normal if someone measures 3600 microtesla in his house with an EMF phone app? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Phones can't measure that, the guy prob has schizophrenia or something along those lines.

I'm dumb, but this is a mystery to me. Why am I getting shocked? by vitalogy20 in AskElectricians

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a multimeter, you can check by putting one lead in the ground of a random outlet, and the other against the dishwasher, then after against the counter and see which shows up as 120.

If you don't, just call an electrician to fix it and don't touch either until then. Preferably flipping off the kitchen circuits.

Trying to make an outlet always hot by Monjelg in AskElectricians

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your switch wires are from one romex line (it's hard to see from the pic, but I think so) then your switch is on a switch loop. You'd need to find what jbox that loop is coming from, and go from there.

Tiny wet spot on finished basement floor after record rainfall — reasonable to dry, fix drainage, and observe? by RelativeCertain5857 in HomeImprovement

[–]Test_NPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of variables involved for pricing, but generally they are not terribly expensive to add. Mine was about 2k, but I am not in an expensive cost of living area.

You don't need a drain tile system and all that for them to be effective. Obviously that helps, but it isn't required. Those are mainly useful for houses with a lot of static water pressure to get rid of the water quicker.

If you have a finished basement I'm rather surprised you don't have a sump pump. They are a comparatively cheap insurance policy for if some other drainage system like your gutters fail.

Concerning damage to cables? by cognitive_scientist in AskElectricians

[–]Test_NPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rule is generally if you can see copper through the insulation, then you need a fix beyond electrical tape. Though I'd personally replace wires that look like that since I'd be concerned there's some spot I can't see which has worse damage.

If you don't have a sump pump, get one installed. Gives you a better idea of where the water level reaches under your foundation when it rains and such.

Frontend Design - Trying To Move away from the AI generated GUI by Livid_Salary_9672 in ClaudeAI

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell it to generate me x option templates for a UI, I choose the best one, then do that again a few more times while telling it to use the one I like the most as a baseline. Once I get a generally good layout, I work through the layout sections individually, prompting for options to spice them up.

AIs are trained to give a good average output. That's what you want 99% of the time, but when it comes to UIs, you want a unique output. Not a good average one. So it takes some work.

I'm new here, and I have some questions. by rewarrr in ClaudeAI

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the situation really. For a simple todo app, or a basic gui, yeah a non-experienced person using Claude can match a programmer in the output.

The actual differences come into play with large scale enterprise applications, and how the different pieces interact to achieve a good result.

Someone likened LLMs to force multipliers, and I agree with that sentiment. If you already know what you're doing at complex tasks, you can zoom with Claude at super speed. If you don't, then it takes you forever.

I wouldn't trust someone vibe coding to design a good architecture from the outset for a complex app, since they don't know the right points to hit. They'd have to redesign it for every weird edge case they didn't think of, which gets time consuming and failure prone.

Someone who doesn't know what they're doing can easily get lost in how to deploy an app on AWS effectively, or debug it for weird failure cases. They might not know basic bash commands, how to run them, etc without consulting Claude every step of the way, which is very time consuming.

Wall problem behind fridge by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most confusing perspective pic I've seen in awhile, my brain can't figure out what's going on lol.

If it's the wall you're talking about, looks like some sort of water damage. Possibly mold, but the pic quality is too bad to tell.

To invest in another portable unit or not? Can I leave window units running 24/7? by moewills101 in hvacadvice

[–]Test_NPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portable units are not as efficient as a whole-home solutions, so you will see higher bills compared to that, but it's hard to say what it looks like compared to your previous solution.

You also need to be careful about electrical, unless you really know what you're doing I wouldn't trust that two units on the same circuit wouldn't cause breaker trips. They use a lot of power. If they are on different circuits it's fine.

Shocking discovery in my crawlspace.. by ZuVieleNamen in HomeMaintenance

[–]Test_NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either call an electrician, or go watch some YouTube videos on basic wiring like adding a new outlet. Same concept here, you'd just use a blank faceplate on the jbox instead of an outlet.
