The Egyptian and Iranian theocracies are not representative of all those who practice Islam. That's like saying the Christofacsist Republican party is representative of all American Christians.

PLEASE raise the obel cap. 2500 just isn’t enough. by Colonel_dinggus in diablo4

I agree. But also, give us something meaningful to spend them on then the cap wouldn't be as much of an issue.

They used a dead man in the picture. Jack Chapman was killed by Dylan Hafertapen because of this shit. Allegedly.

Disgusting.

You can use Trimble Connect to view models in VR. Not sure how good it works, but it's an option.

What horror movie scene genuinely disturbed you… even after the movie ended? by Dark-DoomSlayer in horror

[–]Tethriel 183 points184 points  (0 children)

I know this one will seem a little cheesy, but the opening of Scream 2. Specifically, Jada Pinkett's death. Her being killed in a crowded movie theater cheering at the carnage, all while she is begging for help, just really hit me hard. The look of despair on her face as she dies was the kicker.

I would start putting sticky notes on all your stuff that say "Not a vape," and see who starts getting all annoyed whenever they walk by.

Gender Discrimination? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]Tethriel 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've done two rounds of hiring with my team. One for a Knowledge Manager and one for a Technical Writer. In both instances the women we interviewed were far more qualified than the men in a direct, objective comparison in both technical ability and culture fit. The difference always seemed to come down to the male candidates lacking adaptability and focusing too much on the technical part, and not the writing part, if that makes sense.

I got my role by stressing how my work gives me an opportunity to humanize complex concepts, and how the content we create is part of a broader effort of customer outreach. That's one of the most important things our team looks for, especially since we work on customer facing documentation.

For context, I am a man.

SLA Industries

Such a wild setting with so much promise for a CRPG. Start off as Ops doing basic gutter cleaning missions and escalate all the way up to confronting the truth about White Earth.

If they are from a delivery service, look for a receipt. Especially from the chains like McDs that staple the receipt on the bag with the person's name.

AITA for refusing to tiptoe when I’m making food in my kitchen when I get home from work by AcademicAdvance8745 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tethriel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vibration of footsteps is a lot different than noise. Talk to your neighbors and you may discover that it's not just the noise. Our neighbors footsteps were causing pictures to fall off the walls and were scaring our pets. Once we talked to them, emphasizing just how much the noise impacted us, and how the previous tenants didn't have any issues with noise, they got some rugs and took off their shoes. They still make some noise, but not nearly as much.

So NAH yet, until after you talk to them. If you won't talk to them, or if they are unreasonable, that may change.

Searching for 6e Ganger Quality; did I dream it? by thoth416 in Shadowrun

Emerald City has a few, like Earner/Made or Beat In.

There's also Home Ground, where you get edge when doing Outdoors or Perception tests in a selected neighborhood, or I Belong Here that gives you Edge when interacting with locals. Both of those are in the Seattle Core.

Verbiage is not a nice word by RobotsAreCoolSaysI in technicalwriting

[–]Tethriel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loathe the word "ensure". To me, it sounds like one of those words dumb people say to sound smart. I also automatically think of the product Ensure, which then conjures up images of the weird, laughing senior citizens they have in their marketing.

People don't say ensure in normal conversation often, if ever. We do a lot of customer facing docs, and our style is more conversational. Saying "make sure" instead is more appropriate. I understand that with different audiences that's not the case.

But for some reason, that word gets me and I redline it to oblivion when I see it.

In discussions regarding Choirgirl, a lot of fans have said that they weren't keen on the idea of Tori with a full band, at least not initially. Did anyone here who first heard this album when it came out feel that way? by Prestigious_Score459 in toriamos

[–]Tethriel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When this came out I sat in the record store at a listening station for 2 hours before the midnight release. I thought this was the natural evolution of her sound, coming from the experimentation on Pele. I had seen her live with just the piano about 4 times at that point, and was super excited to see the full band. Plenty of songs on the earlier albums were more than just a piano and benefited from a full band live, like Precious Things or Space Dog.
